I'm part of my city's local boxing club. We have a fight night every January, and last year I was training for my first. I wanted to copy rocky to a degree, so one december morning I got up at 5:45 AM, while it was raining outside, and ran across the city until the sun came up at 7am. I ran up the steps of Prospera Centre (Hockey arena) like Rocky running up the steps to the Philadelphia museum. Moments like that are special, when you have worked hard for an hour before the sun rises.

This is my favorite scene in the movie. The most realistic training scene in Hollywood, no music, just huffing and puffing and waking up exhausted. This is what real training looks like.

The musical score in this is absolutely sublime. Its all the emotion of it. In the minor key. A bit desperate. A bit melancholy. Searching. Unsure. He's trying but not sure of himself. Like we all are at times. But he finds it within himself to TRY. This scene is profoundly moving. Its not just about boxing its about life and anything you want to succeed at. Bill Conti found the sound of that emotion. What a classic.

The scene and the perfect music capture the reality of what it takes to break old habits and improve yourself. Acceptance, courage, self-motivation, dedication. God grant me these things. This scene reminds me of all those years ago when I used to work graveyard and my shift came to an end. Seemed like I was the only person out in the world as I went home all those dark, early mornings, listening to my music on my SONY Walkman. Most of the time I was o.k. with it but, there were times (especially in the fall and winter), when the feelings of loneliness and isolation got pretty heavy. Still do at times...

Lonelyness can be the most greatest, chillest, feeling of all of them. Loneliness like that is what I dream of everyday. Being lonely and chill gives me confidence. I love to be in my own space. This scene is the Greatest scene I’ve ever seen. I watched Rocky about a year ago with my friend Patrick (Who is a big fan of boxing.) And after I watched it I loved boxing even more. I worked harder at the gym. And now I would be in sparring if the pandemic didn’t come to destroy our lives.

@@THEDONSTR8Fightah76 I get where you're coming from but what you're talking about is solitude, not loneliness. Solitude is a physical state of being where you isolate yourself from time to time to unwind or as you say, be in your own space. Loneliness on the other hand is something very different. Loneliness is a mental state. Prolonged loneliness can become a negative mental state which can lead to depression and coupled with solitude as depression is most of the time, can lead to other problems and even suicide.

It's about getting up each day and grinding, be it in the ring or real life. You alone against the world...This movie just isn't just about boxing but life. It's gonna be dark, cold, brutal and lonely, but you WILL make it. From what's been put out over the years, this movie wasn't even supposed to be and what a shame if it wasn't. I actually got into physical training, lifting and sports because of this movie. 40 plus years later, it's more powerful to me than when it came out because of all of the bullshit i've been through and will continue to go through...We all have, and will face Apollo Creed in our lives in various forms. You will get knocked on your ass and on your face. No problem. The question is do you have the guts to get up over and over? Keep grinding and don't you dare stop.

In my opinion it is important to note how much this scene contributes to the legendary training montage later in the film. It shows where the real fights have to be won: Far away from all spectators, by yourself and with yourself as your greatest opponent. This training does not yield an immediate reward - it is one of many lonesome ones you have got to take to reach your goal. Knowing this makes the moment when Rocky finally runs up the stairs later in the film so much more rewarding. He has conquered himself and by that has already won the biggest battle. As a viewer you can feel the accomplishment Rocky feels by just thinking back on how much more he struggled with the stairs - And with himself for that matter - back in this scene. On a final note: I also loved the scene when Rocky tells Adonis in Creed how his biggest opponent is the one looking back at him in the mirror. However think about it: Rocky 1 accomplished to tell this message without actually speaking it out loud - By this scene alone.

For me, Rocky is a hugely inspirational movie (and character). Not only because of the story/message itself, but also because it's amazing to think that a man like Sylvester Stallone - who we don't see as a particulary good actor - was capable of writing a script which would culminate in a great successful film, even achieving the Best Picture Academy Award. *More incredible was the fact that Stallone himself was nominated for Best Actor!

This was the point in Rocky's life where he had to get more serious about his health if indeed he was going to beat the champion Apollo Creed. Things such as drinking, smoking, & even having sex with Adrian had to be cut out. Goes to show ourselves in life, of warning-signs, & clear-cut indications that one needs to get our priorities together in order to achieve greatness.

I ran from my house on the south side of town, and ran through rain at 6:00 am in the morning in late December. This song played in my head the whole way. I ran, jogged, and walked for 90 minutes, and eventually reached the sports stadium in the middle of town, about 7-8 kms away. What a feeling to do that.

You need to put the work in. Working out early in the morning reminds you of hard work but you also get this sense of being alone. It’s a very rough feeling but you get through it. The odds will be against you as reminded by the score by Bill conti but you need to keep fighting until the last breath.

I do this every morning. I mean, I live in West Virginia, so not the exact city or anything, but I always run three miles at 4:00 am. And I've been doing this for six years now. And I am seven-teen. And I owe it all to this scene. This is probably why I'm a track star. Rocky is simply, inspirational.

Every time I watch this make me emotional. I think cause it reminds of me waiting fr a shot , u know winning the lottery. My dad worked at a meat market .I was on my own in a council flat with nothing, I think because Of the lonesome of the character and he had a shot, and gt a life. The concept of the struggle running up the stairs and the music and struggle. Well done sly!

This was a well directed sequence that showcases Rocky's early efforts in training for his upcoming fight. His desperation, physical prowess, and tenacity are tested when he only just barely makes it up the stairs of the Philadelphia art museum. Later though, his motivation, and energy shine through during the training montage and Rocky ascends up the stairs with the confidence and hope of a winner. The whole sequence was set in motion by a memorable and moving score by the great Bill Conti.

bruh that MUSIC!!!!!!! its so sad, haunting and beautiful Rocky is lost alone in the world He is going to fight apollo but doubts himself. despite all of that he is not giving up rocky is going the distance whatever that takes that includes waking up at 4 AM drinking I counted 5 raw eggs and going out to a freezing cold Philadelphia morning. And that's the heart of the movie and its definitely my favorite scene in the movie. I love the training montage and the fight But its this scene that made this movie legendary
