Awesome! I live in White County about 50 min north of that mine! I want to go to that mine and the one in E-town (Elizabethtown) You should take the ferry across in Cave in Rock into KY and go to Marion, KY about 10 miles further south from Cave in Rock and go to the mineral museum there. They have some gorgeous pieces of the purple, yellow, and light blue flurspar in the museum.

across the river in Crittenden county, KY I found newspaper articles from 1906 of my great great grandfather deeding ten acres to my Great Grandfather with a Fluorite mine on it. Separate newspaper article claimed it to be the second best vain in the area. My Grandfather worked at the mines and would take me to visit the geologist as a child. I would get samples and crystals from him. Unfortunately I don't have them any more

Oh ok that's pretty far from where I go rock hunting. The only thing you're close to that I can think of that would be neat to go is the Illinois beach park or something like that. It's on Lake Michigan (the west side) the west side of the lake has big pebble type rocks that are fun to look through. There also some area south of you maybe a couple hours that has fossils. I've never looked there. It starts with an M. Like Mazzus creek maybe. Spelling might be off.

Lol, im in Texas, never been to Illinois. But, with the clues you gave it wasn't hard to find on a good map app. It is private, lioks like the biggest section is a quarry and the two smaller parts are actual mines. Too bad I don't live nearby. I don't mind hopping a gate. Not like theyll miss 2 or 3 little rocks. Lol

Fluorite can also be found out west. Maybe Arizona if you're closer to those areas. But pretty much everywhere out west is good rock hunting. If I'm ever out that way, whether it's Utah, Oregon, Arizona, I just go on dirt roads and start looking around and usually find something. I saw a picture someone posted online once of an agate they found outside of Austin. You might do some research of what kind of stuff can be found in Texas

@@rockhoundingmidmo8873 thank you for the information. Texas has incredible fossils, I have ammonites the size of my truck tires. But, the best agate hunting is out by Big Bend national park. I bought 5 acres out there recently to camp on and just got my first RV, since I'm retired it's travel time. Lol. So, came upon your video looking for a geode trail. My first trip will be through Illinois and Iowa stopping different places to hunt geodes. Then, the big one! A month in Utah! Geodes, obsidian, agates, topaz, etc. Can't wait just me and my dog. Id never be home if I didn't have horses to care for. Lol
