    30 years ago the the kids in my high school that could afford nice stereos (farm kids who made good money) always had Rockford Fosgate amps, Alpine decks and Kicker subs...and damn I remember those old Punch 45's absolutely crushing other amps like Kenwood/Pioneer/Kraco/Sparkomatic LOL..I mean amps rated at >200 W per channel couldn't come close to a Punch 45...and now that I'm a grown ass man, I'm gonna finally buy a RF Punch and put an entire new system into my new Tacoma just like those guys in HS had that I always envied so much.

    One question I had about the T1500-1bdcp is that does it have a remote bass knob that can turn on and off the bass depending on the type of music? Like a remote gain knob basically? Or does it just boost or un boost 45hz

  • @rockfordfosgate

    You can purchase an optional PEQ remote for the T1500-1bdCP amplifier. This knob controls Bass from 0dB to +18dB @ 45Hz, so if you turn it fully counter-clockwise it is essentially "off" and will provide no bass boost. • @rockfordfosgate

    @rockfordfosgate

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi Timothy, the impedance (in ohms) is the amount of resistance in the voice coil. The easiest way to see how this works is by looking at the WIRING WIZARD tab of the subwoofers. Depending on how many subwoofers you have, they can be wired in certain ways to produce the impedance necessary for the amplifier to produce it's optimum power. Take for example, you wanted two P3SD4-10 subwoofers. The WiringWizard tab shows they can be wired to create either a 1-ohm or 4-ohm load. Since the subwoofer is rated to handle up jto 300 Watts RMS, you would need to find an amplifier that produces no more than 600 Watts (300 Watts x 2 subwoofers) at either a 1-ohm or 4-ohm load. The compact amplifiers are extremely reliable as we use the T400X4ad (marine version) in nearly all our motorcycle and UTV systems. They have built-in fans so they don't have overheating issues. The larger amplifiers have slightly better Dynamic Power for large speaker systems, especially the "bdCP" systems since they are designed to drive large numbers of subwoofers.

  • @rockfordfosgate

    @rockfordfosgate

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Bryce, I see you posted a similar question on another video, so I'll simply reply to this one. The P3D4-12 subwoofers are rated to handle up to 600W, so with 2 subwoofers, you'll have 1200W power handling capacity that can be wired to 4-ohms or 1-ohm. Either would be a great combination. If you look at the rated or dynamic power output below, they are comparable, so it comes down to the lesser cost of the Prime model and the 24dB/octave crossover on the Power series with more thermal stability. R2-1200X1 1200 Watts x 1 @ 1Ω (RMS) 1389 Watts x 1 @ 1Ω (Dynamic) T1000-1bdCP 1000 Watts x 1 @ 1-Ohm (RMS) 1395 Watts x 1 @ 1-Ohm (Dynamic)

  • @rockfordfosgate

    @rockfordfosgate

    7 жыл бұрын

    Hi Ben, The P3D4-10 subwoofers are rated to handle up to 500 Watts RMS, so 2 woofers would give you 1,000 RMS power handling capacity. You definitely got the right impedance subwoofers (4-ohm DVC) to match to that amplifier since they can be wired to create a 1-ohm load (the optimum impedance for the P1000X1bd). The amp is rated to produce 1000 Watts RMS x 1 @ 1-Ohm continuous, but it can produce up to 1,430 Watts of Dynamic Power, which could over-power the subs by 430 Watts . We would suggest starting with the gain setup (for the CLEAN gain process) at 0dB Gain Overlap. This will not limit the "watts output" but will keep the amplifier's gain structure matched with your volume control so it's less likely to overdrive the subs.

    It depends. The Power T1500-1bd and T1500-1bdCP only require 4 AWG inputs. If your cable run from the alternator to the amplifier is say 7 ft, then it's not necessary, but if you're running to the back of an SUV and will be powering other amplifiers, then yes, I'd run 1/0 back to a distribution block like the RFD1, then break out 4 AWG cable to the amplifiers. Also, be sure to use true AWG spec'd 100% Oxygen Free Copper, never use CCA wire or anyone that doesn't conform to the AWG standard. All Rockford Fosgate power wire conforms to these standards. Hi Deon. Typically, turning off the amplifier and removing the speaker wires resolves the amp's output protection. Also, be sure none of the B+/GND/REM wires are touching each other. If the amplifier is stuck in protection mode, the subwoofers may be shorted (burned voice coils) and you may need to get the amplifier serviced.

    What kind of amp would you recommend for a 12" Power T1S-1X12

  • @rockfordfosgate

    @rockfordfosgate

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Fred, the T1S-1X12 is rated to handle up to 600 Watts RMS at a 1Ω amplifier load. Your best option is the P500X1bd or T500X1bd. Both are rated at 500 Watts x 1 @ 1-Ohm, but dynamic power is slightly over 700W. If you don't absolutely hammer the snot out of it, both these amplifiers will work fine.

  • @rockfordfosgate

    6 жыл бұрын

    The Punch Pro PP4-T is rated to handle up to 50 Watts RMS and the PPS4-10 are rated to handle up to 350 Watts RMS. If you're looking for a 4-channel amplifier, we'd suggest either the Punch P400X4 or P600X4. This way you could run the tweeters off the front channels and the midrange off the rear channels. If you opt for the P600X4, you'll want to gain the front channels for the tweeters low as not to over power them.

    Running two 10” R2D2 on an old amp. Ordering a new amp this week. Which Prime amp? I know the R500.1 will work, but I also know the 250 watts per sub is under rated.

  • @rockfordfosgate

    @rockfordfosgate

    5 жыл бұрын

    The R2D2-10 is a dual-2 ohm subwoofer rated to handle 250W, so two of them would give you 500W power handling capacity and can be wired to create a 1/2-ohm, 2-ohm, or 8-ohm amplifier load. The P500X1D is rated to produce 500 Watts x 1 @ 2-Ohms but can realistically produce Dynamic Power of 647 Watts x 1 @ 2-Ohms, so that is the perfect amplifier for those two subs. • @rockfordfosgate

    Good Choice O'Shae! The Power T1675-S are rated to handle 100 watts RMS and is a great sounding set of speakers. If you're looking for a 4-channel amp to run front/rear, the Punch P600X4 or Power T600-4 will run them well along with the speakers in the rear. If you're looking for a dedicated 2-channel amplifier, the Punch P400X4D or the Power T400-2 would be good, but they can definitely over-power them, so you'll want to reduce the gain on those amplifiers so you don't burn up the voice coils.

  • @rockfordfosgate

    @rockfordfosgate

    7 жыл бұрын

    It's not a matter of it can "handle it", it's a matter of properly wiring the speakers to achieve the proper impedance load. The Prime R400-4D can easily handle 8 pair of speakers, assuming 2 speakers on each of the 4 channels. Wiring each set of speakers in parallel will create a 2-ohm load per channel that will generate 100 Watts (50W for each speaker). If you attempted 10 pair, I'm assuming you'll be trying to wire 3 speakers on the front left/right channels and 2 speakers on each rear channel. This will create an unbalanced load on the front channels - and when wired in parallel - will create a 1.33-Ohm load which is too low of an impedance for the R400-4D.

  • @rockfordfosgate

    Hi Ascap 850... Great, the P3-1X12 is rated to handle 600 Watts RMS and contains a P3D2-12 and it's internally wired to create a 1-ohm load. It shows the SKAR RP-800.1D produces 810 Watts x 1 at 1-ohm for $139.99. The Punch P500X1bd is a phenomenal amplifier and will produce 500 Watts x 1 @ 1-Ohm. Assuming you have adequate airflow around the heatsink, it shouldn't shut down at all.

I used my Skar RP800 at 1 ohm (still have it;”working” in a closet of spare bed room as a back-up) on (1) 10” Skar DDX DVC2 in a Skar Factory ported box for a couple years with “NO” problem! No over heating at all in trunk of 20’ Honda Civic. I realize this is an old post but I read them all trying to “still” learn being a car audio fan since the late 80’s! I did upgrade my Skar RP800 to the Down4Sound’s JP8 in 22’ with phenomenal results with alot more bang for your buck! Hi Dustin, It looks like the MJM822 & MJM844 are rated to handle up to 900W. Depends on what model you have because 2 subwoofers would either create a 1Ω load or a 2Ω load, so hopefully you have the 4Ω models, allowing you to wire everything in parallel for a 1Ω load with a total power handling capacity of 1,800W. Based on the amp ratings below, we would suggest the Punch P1000X1bd, but either amplifier will work just fine. R1200-1D Rated: 1200 Watts x 1 @ 1-Ohm Dynamic: 1,400 Watts x 1 @ 1-Ohm P1000x1bd Rated: 1000 Watts x 1 @ 1-Ohm Dynamic: 1,430 Watts x 1 @ 1-Ohm

    I just purchased the Prime r500x1 because a guy at a car audio place told me it was the best and most powerful amp that would fit in the small space between two 10s in a regular cab Ford Ranger. ( 9 inches) I hope it does at least as well as the old Kicker DX350 I have laying in the passenger side floor. The Kicker don't fit in the small space and looks to be twice the size of the one I just bought. The 10" subs are old too, meaning an old model they don't make anymore. Single coil XPLs. The best I could find at the time in a single coil sub. I think the actual amp size is a big consideration and should have been discussed in this video. I'm not trying to show it off, I'm trying to hide it. Big power, big quality, small size.

    Hi Fly, The Prime R500X1D is smaller at 1.98"H x 6.77"W x 8.5"L, whereas the Kicker DX350 measures 2.75”H x 10”W x 11.1”L. The Prime R500X1D is rated at 300 Watts x 1 @ 4-Ohms or 500 Watts x 1 @ 2-Ohms so it you have a single 2-ohm voice coil this thing will rock!

    It arrived today, seems to work except for the remote gain. I'm getting nothing from it. I put it all the way up at 250hz, put the EQ in the middle and the gain on amp at 3/4, there's a phase switch, not sure what it does but it says 0, and 180.. I tried both. Still nothing from the remote gain. Update: the gain is working now. I thought a phone cord was a phone cord seen one you seen them all. Not with Kicker and Rockford. In my haste I just plugged in the Kicker cord, it fit the plug, but no work. lol, Note to self, have to use the cord that came with amp. Smacking myself in the head.

  • @rockfordfosgate

    @rockfordfosgate

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, our PLC, PLC2, and PEQ remotes use custom cables, so it's best to use the cable that came with the product and not use another, even if it looks the same. The phase switch is for low frequencies. The switch can shift the response 180-degrees out of phase, which can come in handy if your subwoofers are in the back of an SUV or passenger van where there is considerable distance between the low frequency drivers and the high frequency drivers. Just listen to it at 0 and 180 and use the setting that sounds the best. If no change can be heard, use the 0-degree setting.

    5 жыл бұрын

    Great question Scott! The P2D4-12 is rated to handle up to 400 Watts RMS each, so two subwoofers would give you 800 Watts total power handling capacity. Two 4-ohm DVC subs can be wired to create a 1-ohm or 4-ohm load. We would recommend the P500X1bd. Although it's rated to produce 500 Watts x 1 @ 1-Ohm, it can dynamically produce 787 Watts x 1 @ 1-Ohm, so you'll never exceed the subwoofer's power handling specs.

    Hi Justin, sorry we're just seeing this. KZread made an algorithm update because we're now seeing messages we were never notified about. Theoretically YES if we're looking at numbers. In the real world, 1% THD is the standard, so as long as you have a good clean setup and have properly optimized your gain controls, you should have good, clean power. Now, if you want it LOUD, you're going to have to bite the bullet and use Gain Overlap, which is the intentional overdrive of the gain structure. We typically use +5dB on Midrange/Tweeters and +10dB on Subwoofers and customers love it!

    Yes, you absolutely can. You'll most likely be running the rear doors with the back speakers in parallel to the amplifier's rear channels. Each pair of 4Ω speakers wired together will create a 2Ω load on the amplifier. This will work the same on both rear left & rear right channels of the amplifier. The P600X4 is stable to 2Ω, so this shouldn't be a problem.

    You’ll be hard-pressed to find an amplifier that does optimum power at 8-ohm. Take for example the Punch P1000X2, it’s a 1,000 watt amplifier with these ratings: 300 Watts x 2 @ 4-Ohm 500 Watts x 2 @ 2-Ohm 1000 Watts x 1 @ 4-Ohm Bridged So, at 8-ohms, that amp (I’m guessing) will produce around 500W. It would be best to get another 8-ohm subwoofer, wire it in parallel, to create a 4-ohm load. Then it would produce the ideal 1,000 watts.

    In the late 80’s early 90’s I had RF amps (the Punch 45 & 150) and Hifonics ( cyclops 100x1 & Hercules 200x1) then; these were absolute “Beast”! I had a CRX and was into a single 18” subs because of hatchback and tried all these amps on my RF 18” & Kicker 18” with the best box I ever built in my Carpentry Votech class! Nobody could touch me with a single sub and most with 2 subs couldn’t touch my CRX with my 18”. It was the RF 150/ Hercules 200x1 which was HUGE power at the time on one sub! Nowdays thousands on a driver is nothing; funny how times change!#RF18”#thePunch45/150#HifonicsCyclops/Hercules#Kicker18”#HondaCRX#🔊

    Great that you noticed! Assuming the speakers are wired to create the proper impedance and the amplifier is not shutting off, this is normal. Our amps use MEHSA, which is a direct heat transfer coupler for the MOSFETS, and acts like a radiator for the power supply and output stages. It effectively transfers heat away from the device directly to the heatsink. NOBODY else uses this technology, meaning other brand amplifiers don't efficiently transfer heat away from the MOSFETs, leading to failure ... which is why their heatsinks run much cooler than Rockford Fosgate models. If you question if the amplifier is wired improperly, feel free to contact our technical support. They can help you determine if the installer wired the amplifier correctly. They can be reached at 1-800-669-9899 Mon-Fri 8am - 5pm Arizona time (currently PST).

    The P2D4-12 is rated to handle 400 Watts RMS and can be wired to a 2-ohm load. The R500X1D produces 500 Watts at 2-ohm, and 647 Watts dynamic power, so technically it will over power the subwoofer. However, considering your other option of the R250X1 of 250 watts RMS and nearly 300 watts dynamic power (www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/r250x1/) ... the R500X1D may be your best bet. The reason Rockford Fosgate amplifiers run hotter is due to the MEHSA heatsink substrate that efficiently carries heat away from the MOSFETS into the heatsink, allowing the "engine" to run cooler. This is a much different process over competitors. Today, our amplifier design and development continues to be done right here in Tempe, AZ and utilize the same type of unregulated power supplies as used in the early 80's. Using a P3 subwoofer would not be recommended because you'll only have 1200 Watts of power handling capacity (600W x 2 subs). A better option is a pair of Power T1D412 (dual 4Ω) subwoofers because the power handling capacity is 800 Watts RMS each or (1600W x 2 subs). This will make sure you don't burn the subwoofers up cased by the extreme power capability of the amplifier. Thanks for the information. We needed the subwoofer model number to determine how much power handling was available. Sounds like you'll be using 2 of the 10W0v3-4 that are rated to handle 300 W RMS and use a single 4-ohm voice coil. Therefore, two subs would be wired to create a 2-ohm amp load and have up to 600W power handling capacity. We would recommend the Power T500-1bdCP since it's rated to produce 500 Watts x 1 @ 2-Ohm & 4-Ohm, but can dynamically produce 537 Watts, still under the 600W power handling capacity of the subwoofers. The Punch 800a2 is class-A/B and the T1500-1bdCP is class-B/D so you will have marginal efficiency. The Puchh 800a2 is rated to produce 800 Watts x 1 @ 4-ohms bridged (Dynamic 960 Watts x 1 @ 4-ohms). The T1500-1bdCP is rated to produce 1000 Watts x 1 @ 4-Ohm (Dynamic 1045 Watts x 1 @ 4-Ohms). Honestly, 85 watts of difference due to the way you're running a4-ohm load you will notice only a slight difference. The T1500-1bdCP can produce up to Dynamic 1,715 Watts, but that is at the ideal 1-ohm load which is where that amplifier produces optimum power. The CP part of the circuit helps generate more power at higher impedances under dynamic speaker conditions, and that is assuming it is connected to a 1-ohm nominal load. If you can change the wiring from 4-ohm to 1-ohm it will be noticeable, otherwise if you're sticking to 4-ohm, you will not notice any real-world difference.

    @@justinkelsey9218 Yes, that's exactly why Dynamic Power was listed. The concern is utilizing an amplifier at 4-ohms that is designed to produce optimum power at 1-ohm, will not provide a noticeable difference from what you have now. If your 800a2 birth sheet shows closer to 1,000 Watts, then there is only 45 watts (around 0.2 dB) difference.

This includes our hand-built RATS test machines that measure over 200 data points of each amplifier, along with Klippel test equipment that measure the Re, Fs & Qts of every speaker & subwoofer. This data is transmitted to us so we can actively monitor assembly tolerance. If you're into QA & QC you know that "tolerance drift" is a real issue where incremental changes can create big issues over time. A hard thing to swallow is our failure rate was around 4% here in the US, but when we switched to manufacturing partners, we exponentially improved our rejection ratio to well under 1%. I've worked here for 32 years and was one of those production workers on the assembly line responsible for final QA and Testing for all signal processors. Hi Rejiv, The T1675-S are 4-ohm speakers rated to handle up to 100 watts RMS, and the T1675 are also 4-ohm speakers and are rated to handle up to 75 Watts RMS. For the amplifier I'm not sure if you're referring to the 600.4 built in 2001 or the newer P600X4, but either way they are both rated to produce 75 Watts x 4 @ 4-Ohm. This is a good match in power ratings. Since you only have 4 speakers, there is no option to wire the amplifier into different impedances. You'll wire one speaker to each of the four channels, creating a 4-ohm load per channel. Pretty straight forward, so I wouldn't change anything.

    Mainly for the reasons we just talked about. Consumers demand electronics with more features at a lower cost. Comparatively, people just see a power number and a price… however we know there is value in performance and technology…. and that’s what we fight for everyday… helping save the world from bad car audio. Hi kopr cord, nice to meet you. I was one of those employees that assembled Punch 150 amplifiers on the production floor. In fact, my specialty was the Power 300, 650 and 1000 amplifiers and all signal processors. They were power-houses indeed and became very popular through the years. Once we moved from thru-hole components to Discrete Surface Mount (around 1993 starting with the Punch 200 DSM), the build quality improved considerably. This is because the automated process reduced quality issues. Today, we utilize the same DSM process in our amplifiers as we did the Punch 200 DSM. We also engineer the same Dynamic Headroom into the amplifier as we did back in the 1980's. Regardless of the model number, you're guaranteed to get more power from the amplifier than you anticipated. The closest amplifier today would be the Punch P500X2 amplifier. However, it features C.L.E.A.N. Balanced Differential Inputs, and internal variable crossover which were not available at the time the Punch 150 & Punch 150HD were developed. Here's some info on the Punch 500X2: P500X2 Product Details: rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/p500x2/ P500X2 Rated Power 150W x 2 @ 4Ω 250W x 2 @ 2Ω P500X2 Dynamic Power 223W x 2 @ 4Ω (49% increase) 365W x 2 @ 2Ω (46% increase) Sincerely, -Eric R.

Just odd that none of the dyno videos seem to illustrate the gap between certified and dynamic power tests represented as a percentage to not only show if a product does rated but how much dynamic power to expect above certified during signal fluctuations. Do people not get that this is an important selling point on the amps ability to perform in real world scenarios?

    It sounds like the difference focuses on performance at max power . I don't hear anything about superior components or circuitry that makes one amp sound better . If you don't play at very loud volumes all the time then I guess the prime series is the way to go . Given that the higher priced amps cost $ hundreds more they would be a waste of money for a lot of people . I like loud music but not necessarily having my hair blown around or setting off car alarms throughout the neighborhood . For instance I would bet that two prime amps each running a single sub at 4 ohms would be superior ....and cheaper than a single large POWER series running the same two subs at 2 ohms wired in parallel.

Problem is, when I crank it up,and not very loud, the 600 cuts out and the protect light comes on. Only on the right front speaker. Amp is bridged, grounds are solid and gains are just under half. • @rockfordfosgate

    Don't be surprised :-) So you're asking why the R600-4D cuts out when running two 6x9 speakers on the front channels and the FRONT-RIGHT is the only channel that cuts out, right? Disconnect the front-right speaker wires from the amplifier and see if it still cuts out. If it doesn't, you have a pinched wire shorting to the chassis or have accidentally driven a screw thru the speaker wire.

    @@adaboy4z Ha Ha! I see what you mean now. Thank you for clarifying your question. Well, we see this quite often where car audio newbies turn the GAINS and BASS BOOST all the way up, thinking they are getting "more power" from the amplifier, when actually it's not more power, just a higher average power output (distorted.) This miscalculation usually results in blown subwoofers, especially if you're already using an amplifier that produces more output power than the subs can handle. The GAIN is designed to match the output voltage of the source unit (radio) to the amplifier. We put a dial on it because all radios don't have the same output voltage (strength). The Bass Boost is designed to compensate for acoustical deficiencies in the interior of the car (a sedan will sound different than a 2-seat convertible) so it must be used carefully to add bass back into the response that the car interior removed.
