Outstanding Tim. A beautiful piece of work. Great choice of wood for the tail fins. Excellent finish. One of the first things I ever turned was a rocket ship very similar to this. Mine was not hollow though. I was about 15 years old. The year was about 1950. I have a set of threaded rings. Maybe this is the time to put them to use. Thank you for sharing. Nice project, came out great, that little girl is going to love it! I had a thought, instead of rattail filing the fins, what do you think about holding a piece of sandpaper on the body and sanding the shape of the body into the fin? Not sure if it would work, just a thought.

That’s such a brilliant gift! Tell her not to give up her dreams; I was laughed at in the 70’s and 80’s for wanting to be a pilot but I made it and was a Captain on an airliner! Girl’s can do anything! Never let their male peers & teachers make them feel lesser!
