Rockabilly Bassist "Slick" Joe Fick
Музыка
If you've spent any time on Memphis' famed Beale St. in the past few years, chances are likely that you've seen or at least heard of one of Bluff City's best known and most entertaining bands; a "high octane" Rockabilly trio known as The Dempseys, made up of Joe Fick (Upright Bass) Brad Birkedahl (Guitar) and Ron Perrone (Drums). In addition to being stellar musicians individually, the group delivered hours of awe-inspiring performances that included countless variations of instrument swapping and effortless instrumental gymnastics that had to been seen to be appreciated.

You have to see footage of this guy live. He is INSANE!!
Drove from Cincinnati to Memphis on a whim. Walked into a bar to find the Dempseys playing. Knew right then it was town I would need to visit often, not to mention still trying to top the amazing show they put on. That was six years ago.
The finest stand up bass player on the planet Earth!!!! And I'm not just whistling Dixie.....just whistling. HI JOE!!
Ok coolest thing I've ever heard
I absolutely love and appreciate this... Hell of a lot passion and work there.......unreal.
Joe is the real deal. Badass for sure. Great sense of time.
I knew Joe a bit down in Memphis when he was with The Dempseys, a great Rockabilly Trio, and watched him with them a couple times at the Elvis Presley Club and Restaurant on Beale Street while it was open, and crossed paths with him in the music stores a couple of times too. Just KZread The Dempseys Memphis to see insane live theatrics with his upright bass. Really nice guy too, liked him a lot.
Love the triple slaps!

Haha Your avatar looks like a whisker hair or eyelash on my phone screen!
I think the percussive slaps are too loud tbh, but this guy is really damn good

Yeah if amplified or mastered it’d have a clearer note
Fucking amazing.
I love your last name. :>
Hi can you please explain the drag slap. Cheers
Rockabilly master bass
Fun stuff! Your action is really tight. Do you find real gut helps? I use nylon.. I get sloppy an tired and lose definition in the slapping after three or four songs if I lower the action below 1/2 inch. Love the galloping, haven't picked that one up yet.
This guy is a Fucking bad ass!
Fantastic playing. What strings are you using on the bass? I've been playing Rockabilly and R'n'Roll for thirty years and have settled with Presto or eurosonic steel core strings. Your string tension seems to be a lot looser than what I can get.
This guy's percussive nature sounds better to me then all the leading slap bassists, and I like they're music. Maybe it's because this is secondary and not an intentional technique but the freedom is amazing
goetz gut strings with a wrapped E. you can tell the E is wrapped by the sound the click it makes when he hits a note on the E string. I also have him as a friend of fb and asked him. GREAT TONE JOE
what kind of strings are you using in this video?
Mas bucura daca as primi acele corzi . Eu nu.pot cumpara asa ceva .in Romania nu exista
Joe do you have your bass that high up for a reason? I'm new to upright and not certain.
How he can do this.
i wish i can play that ovezised violin like him
Fickin great!!
Fickin' amazing! Standard lines with drum-solo-quality tapping in between! And great tone on the bassline- something many miss ...
How about Big Noise From Winnetka The bobcats?
what kind of strings???????? and what kind of pick up is the best for rockabilly???
in that way, what were you trying to look for on you tube?
Hello. Are those strings metal or nylon? They sound metalic
@haircutJoel put headphones on!!
Joe...what's your string height in mm? I'd love to know!
What size bass do you play? Thanks
you should try strings made out of leather. I m from Croatia and my grandpa use leather strings, great sound, try it!
Look up upright bass slapping and upright bass triplets, it should help!
! ! ! ! ! ! !
is that a full size double bass?
flamenco
i'd love to have just a snare and jam with you, you're great.
SKILL
YOU are a Fucking Good man, you play bass total Kool
I'm finally buying my cello this year instead of a vehicle. Conveyance or cello. I would rather pluck the strings ;)
I searched FASTEST bass ever.
@dbeatstjepan Yeah? what does "Wank" mean?
i was going to comment on that lol
fuck man u can twiddle that bass, come to hemsby next year
German speakers: *wheeeeeze*
Mr. Robin Williams :D
thats how to play : )
I think it's posture so you don't get neck or shoulder pain
@dbeatstjepan 'Fuck" means i just dropped coffee into my keyboard in english
Slick as Fick!
Willie Dixson
haters gonna hate.
Where's the drummer? ....what drummer?
The slaps are three times louder than the notes. (oh, and thanks for the lesson)
