I could be wrong but in my experience 99% of the time it's *note* followed by the *slaps*. you were teaching slap, slap, note in your triplet exercise for example which places the which should be on beat one, on beat three so you'll end up playing "off" the drummer. Otherwise a pretty good explainer of how to achieve the different percussive effects.

Hi, the bass wasn't plugged in for this video, I just recorded it acoustically with my phone. For 15years I used the KK rockabilly pro pick ups which I love because it is very versatile and tough. 100's of gigs and rehearsals in many situations... I also used rotosound strings but they are expensive...but really good. This particular bass isn't set up at all, I just got it and it has orchestral metal strings and a friend gave me the magnetic pick ups, but it is temporary until I get myself decent strings and the kk's again. Check out the comment by "Skin head.." And thanks for your comment😊 Cheers

I haven't had the chance to try them. I think you can play rockabilly on any strings but the feel, tension, attack, sustain and warmth will be different so try a few. The strings I'm using on this video are your basic orchestral steel strings. About as bad as it gets for rockab. Got myself some rotosound rs 4000 since then. On my old dbl bass I had a mixed dropped set. It took me a long time to work out what I liked.

First thing is get the steels off and get some unwound gut on. Oh, and don't forget to get a shadow transducer and junk the electromagnetic pickup as well. (It sounds like an electric bass and won't work anyway with gut).

Thanks m8, that's true. I picked up this bass as is, with steelos on it, and a friend gave me the pick ups. On my last bass I had a dropped set of rotosounds and a kk rockabilly pro pick ups. I used that set up for over 15 years and I swear by it. The strings had good flex, attack and sustain and were very stable in the long run. the kk is tremendously flexible in all situations and soooo tough. Occasionally used weed wackers for rehab when my finger joints hurt from bad positioning and too many rehearsals.. I played mostly neo-rockabilly/country/punk/blues/trash/pop🤣. Also had an swr 15 combo which gave THE best and most double bassy sound ever out of heaps of speakers I tried. Unfortunately had to let go of everything when I moved countries. I've never tried a shadow transducer, but I've heard good things. Hopefully I'll get a decent set up again soon. Cheers man! All the best.👍

Obviously very talented and the technique is on point. However, I do find it very odd that you lead with the palm and finish with the pull. I could be confusing to some because it should be pull at the 1 and palm motion on the "and". 1 (pull), and (palm), 2 (pull), and (palm), 3 (pull), and (palm), 4 (pull), etc ...

@@RevMluxgladius Actually I enjoy a good fart. It's mother nature's free entertainment. For reasons beyond the capacity of mere mortals to comprehend, it seems to be an art form that is processed, and therefore appreciated, exclusively by the male brain. If you want to dip your toe into the scene, I recommend getting started with a combination of beers and spicy chili. The more beans the merrier!

This is just a sloppy way to play made into a technique. Slap bass isnt cool. Bass guitar does techniques snapping strings and such but it sounds good. Doing this stuff on upright just sounds like noise. I yelled at a guy once thay picked up my bass and tried to do this crap
