*Miho,* the bass player, assembled the band. *Haruna,* the drummer, had played with her already for some years in another little band that was called DestRose. Miho founded Lovebites with the idea of making a band that played classic metal, that singed in english and that had beautiful ladies on the front. She knew *Miyako* and *Midori* for playing in other little bands from the japanese metal scene, so she made them join. For the last, they were looking for a singer, so they listened to some rock demos and crossed paths with *Asami.* She studied ballet since she was a child. Later she had been a performing as a soul singer in live sessions around for a living. She was also a backup singer for some pop and rock groups. When she joined Lovebites she didn't even know what Heavy Metal was xD And yeah I do not know how anyone can say that of Miyako (black haired guitar). Awesome guitarists, great shredders, there are hundreds. All of them awesome. But the expression as an artist that Miyako can express with her music, I have seen very few people able to do that in metal. Her artistic expression is precisely her strongest point, imo. And that's to say something, this lady has a lot of strong points, you will see if you go deeper in this journey. I would recommend Edge of the World, for a song with more clear vocals.

As a musician I have always believed that the emotion is in the playing not in the theatrics. Also stage and body movement is inversely proportional to the difficulty of what is being played and what this band plays is very technical and difficult. Oh, and Lovebites is the best metal band of this era...hands down.

No manager or company, thank god, Miho want to show the Beautiful, or girly look of the Band. According to the ladies in Lovebites, the reason for the white outfits is to contrast them from other metal bands, because they bring a positive message and want to distance themselves from the traditional black that other metal bands wear. It has nothing to do with making it easier to see them because of their size. They're small, but they're not THAT small, lol! With the 6" heels they wear, they're pretty close to average height on stage. Also, I'm not sure who told you they never move around on stage, but whoever did apparently hasn't paid much attention to them! There are several songs where they move around a lot, although their movement is understandably limited by their clothing choice to wear high heels. Although Miyako (dark hair) has always been more reserved than Midori (blonde), the stoic and generally expressionless personality she displays onstage is a relatively recent development, and it was a deliberate decision made by both Midori and Miyako, to draw more of a yin-yang contrast between them. If you watch some of their older performances, from 2019 and older, Miyako was much more animated, much more engaging with the crowd, and smiled a lot more. It was in the lead-up to the Electric Pentagram CD and the tour in support of that album that they made the decision to play with their stage personas a bit more. The fun-loving Miyako does still show through on occasion, though.

They have actually said that it is all of the above--to contrast with the Metal image of black outfits, to signal the positivity of their lyrics and messaging vs the darkness of most Metal, and also to be more visible on stage. But good comment, especially the yin-yang contrast. It also shows in their playing styles--the contrast is a huge reason they sound so rich and dynamic.

Miho (Bass) (defacto leader, red? curled hair) and Haruna (Drums)(Nickname: Energizer Bunny, she is actually the smallest of the group) are co-founders; Midori (Guitar 2, with blond ponytail, very expressive); Miyako (Guitar 1 & Keyboards, dark hair, "ice queen"... shows her passion in her performance, off stage she has a great sense of humor, she was a child prodigy with music and has amazing talent, she also writes most if not all of the arrangements for their music. ); Which brings us to the vocalist, Asami. Beautiful lady, very tiny, but still taller than Haruna. Asami studied Ballet in the US, I have no idea how long she was here, but she speaks English quite well, if not fluent. I believe she was instrumental in deciding to sing all their songs in English.) Overall, I love this group. I can only pray they will tour the USA once this pandemic is over with. I can only hope they would do a performance in Knoxville, TN the nearest city to me... Anastasia, than you for doing what you do. Spasiba basho.

Miyako has composed 22 of those, Miho 17, Asami 4 and Midori and Haruna have each composed 2. They are all definitely badass. 🤘

Miho said she always wanted to play a combination of power metal and "a little bit of old school [heavy metal]." Oh, outstanding review again, and I agree with your every comment again. As you pointed out, every member keeps each personality is the power and their superiority. No one juts out, and 5 totally different characters interfuse and accord as one great and perfect sound. That makes Lovebites as the most unique and outstanding band. Although the drummer and the bassist are top notch players, they don't play solos with few exceptions. They aim to make one perfect sound of the band instead of each player shines individually, nevertheless each one of them is the top level musician. Asami the singer is the last one who joined the group. Since she was a R&B/Jazz singer and knew nothing about metal, she tried adapt her style to metal but the all other members advised her not to. Hence there is a unique metal singer Asami. They have achieved their uniqueness this way. The dark haired guitarist Miyako, she does not perform other than music. She just tries the best performance as a musician. As you pointed out, her sound is most emotional. She keeps her flaming passion under her cold skin as opposite to Midori the ponytailed guitarist who is an insane speed demon, wants to play in excitement and agitation. Somebody in the Wolfpack described two guitarists as Ice and Fire. This total difference of the two makes the sound so deep and vast and rich. And the other members keep each character, then five different elements harmonize as one perfect sound. This is their unique existence. Combined file of Chopin Revolutionary Etude + Swan Song is uploaded again. Please try it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iXac1tOgmburcZc.html BTW, the guy in Glory to the World is not a prince. He is Jesus of the Resurrection. You may see the blood on his forehead and in his palms. This clip symbolizes the world overcoming the epidemic situation of China virus. Have a good one.

What a wonderfully insightful reaction and analysis. You are very right about the contrasts of personality and the reflection of that in the performance. The dark haired "quiet" guitarist is called Miyako and she is arguably the most musically gifted of the band which is, considering that they are all phenomenal musicians, is a very high bar indeed. She has been a musical prodigy from the age of three. Guitar is her SECOND instrument. She is also a concert standard classical pianist and the main composer for the band. To see this virtuosity check out their song "Swan Song" which I think you might identify with having your own song called "Swan Lake" Try and find the version with the piano introduction when she plays Chopin's "Revolutionary Etude" before the beginning of the song (as well as incorporating elements of Dvorak's "New World Symphony" into the main body of the song. In the same live version you'll also see confirmation of another of you insights. Lead singer Asami is indeed a trained ballerina and at the end of "Swan Song" she performs elements of the dance "The Dying Swan" choroegraphed by Mikhail Fokine to Camille Saint-Saens' "The Swan" for legendary ballerina Anna Pavlova. The camera doesn't dwell on her sadly but you can get glimpses of it. "The Dying Swan" is also incorporated into modern interpretations of the ballet "Swan Lake" of course. The depth of talent and the profound thought that goes into this band's music and performance is quite frankly staggering.

Great reaction. Thank goodness for a reactor who does not complain about Miyako's (black haired guitarist) stage precence and her seeming lack of emotion. Miyako shows her emotions in her playing and through her finger tips. Personally I think her stage precence is very cool and the contast between her and Midori's (blond guitarist) personality and style of playing are one of the best things about Lovebites. You should react to Lovebites 'Swan Song' with Miyako playing Chopin's Revolutionary Etude as the intro. The piano is really Miyako's primary instrument and the guitar her second but she is equally proficient on both instruments.

Another great reaction! The band was formed "organically". Miho, the bassist and Haruna, the drummer played together in the band "Destrose" (since disbanded). After leaving Destrose, they decided to form their own band. They recruited Asami (vocal) and Midori (blonde ponytail). Miyako ("no emotion") came in initially as a "support musician", but soon became a permanent member. As you delve more into this band, you will discover that Miyako is also a highly skilled concert pianist. She gives off more that "classical musician" vibe. Midori is graduate of Guitar Institute of Technology, which has produced some of the most technically proficient heavy metal guitar "shredders" (Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert). So she exhibits more of a "bad ass metal guitarist" vibe. As a heavy metal guitarist myself, I recognize there is a huge difference in the way Midori and Miyako approach guitar playing. But they complement each other flawlessly. I have heard from posts I've read that it was a conscious decision to showcase the different personalities on stage. Whether that comes from the girls themselves, their management, or a combination of both, I don't know. But I do have the very first live DVD they released, and Miyako is much more animated. In any case, yes, word has it Asami has had ballet training. Looking forward to the next one!

about "support musician" - it doesn't mean she was a lesser member at the start, it only means she was involved with another band at the same time so she couldn't be considered a definitive member.

Thanks for reacting to amazing Lovebites. Miyako shows her emotions through her guitar and piano playing. For nice piano and vocals I recommend the songs “Empty daydream”, “Epilogue”, “Edge of the world” and “Swan song”. In the song “Dancing with the devil” Asami showcases her bluesy vocals. All songs live if possible. In an interview, Miho said that they want to play as heavy as men but keeping their femininity. Some people say that they’re redefining metal.

There are documentaries here on KZread that absolutely back up your statement - you see Miyako (dark hair) laughing and chatting happily with the others and a bit later, just before Lovebite's performance in Tokyo (2020 or 2021 - don't remember exactly), how this exceptional artist gets nervous and more and more quiet, but then shines on stage with such world-class ability - just more reserved than her congenial counterpart Midori, also a stunningly brilliant - for me - world-class guitarist. I also think that Midori's experiences at bodybuilding events, this radiant appearance in public supports her more personal, more expressive nature - the moto: no matter how you are doing, you shine brightly for the world with your wonderful smile. This is Midori for me.

They have said in interviews that the two guitar players intentionally exaggerate the contrast in their personalities while on stage. You're definitely correct that Miyako isn't emotionless, it's just displayed in a way more typical of classical musicians than rock musicians. Also, as far as I can tell it's not unusual from Japanese music videos to have the lyrics shown, often as subtitles but sometimes in a more flashy graphical way (Unlucky Morpheus "Top Of The M" for example). Lovebites lyrics are all in English, but Asami definitely has an accent, and the cadence is often different from how a native speaker would normally sing those words.

They put themselves together. Miho, the bass guitarist, and Haruna, the drummer, were in a band called Destrose. Miyako and Midori, the guitarists, were each in different bands, and those four knew each other to various degrees through the music festival scene in Japan. When Destrose finally split after having having nearly every woman in Japan in their lineup, Miho wanted to put together a band that reflected the music she loved when she was growing up. The four of them needed a vocalist, and Asami was available, wanted to do something different, and had put out a rock demo. Miho heard it and liked the power in Asami's voice, so they invited her to join. As for the video, the church, at least the interior, is a real building. Another Japanese power metal band, Galneryus, filmed the video for "Angel of Salvation" there, and I've heard of another group or two shooting there. The guy in the video is supposed to be a representation of Jesus reincarnated in modern times; that's why he's got blood on his hands and forehead. I feel like he's supposed to be a bit amnesiac, too, and that LOVEBITES playing in the church are a guiding light, but that's just me theorizing.

Lovebites just do Lovebites thing. Miho the bass player ( i think it was her dream to have a band in white as stageoutfit ) and 145 cm Haruna the pocket nuke behind the drums started this band. They found the ponytail Midori and Miyako for guitarists. The from the beginning R a B singer Asami was last in and never have sang metal. So the band grow kind of organic. They have a "6" member, Mao is contributing with arr and some composing. He played synth in the band Light Bringer. There they have the singer Fuki that now sings in another amazing band. Unlucky Morpheus. Lovebites songmixing is done so far from the same ppl that soundmix Nightwish in Finland.

I'm glad that you understood Miyako (the dark haired guitarist). I've heard many people criticize her for her lack of expression on stage. She started learning classical piano when she was 3 years old and continues to play it. In their concert at the beginning of last year, she actually played Chopin's "Revolutionary Etude." Classical pianists are not known for showing a lot of emotion on stage, with the possible exception of Yuja Wang. She started teaching herself guitar when she was 18, and is completely self taught. She also composes and arranges the majority of their songs. She even taught herself to play bass guitar so can wrote those parts as well. Midori ( the blond guitarist) was formally taught guitar and plays with a traditional metal style, while Miyako is always experimenting with her style. When she buys a new guitar, she always changes all of the electronics to get the exact sound she's looking for. As is typical for classical musicians, she lets her emotions out in her music. She has played some soulful solos that will rip your heart out. If you want to really see who Miyako is, I recommend you watch "Swan Song" - the version that starts with her playing Chopin's Etude.

LOVEBITES - Glory to the World lyrics (Russian):

Japanese bands, with boys or girls (or both) have some twists in them, because japanese culture have some aspects who are really different from the western ones. A lot of bands in Japan have "uniforms", some kind of clothes who "defines" them. They have they "cute dresses", Band Maid have the maid costumes, from years another band: Scandal uses uniforms who looks like schoolar ones (they start playing in High School), etc. Also a lot of bands have a "role playing" on they public relations. One is the wild, another the shy, etc... this can be related with their personality but is also a role to play in public for the audience. In Japan the separation between public and private life if really strict. People don´t harasses public figures and the details of her private life are... private. Asking about intimate details are considered very rude. Some girls in bands are married and even have children, but they only publish a little thing about this and nothing else. People don´t go asking for irrelevant details. One person is the "public one" and they also have a private life and no one ask details about this. Also they think the followers, the fans are customers. They deserve a good show. They pay for it, so in live performances they smile or act like the "public persona". Does not matter if they have a bad day, a headache... they are professionals and you pay for a performance. At least they think in this way. There´s really a lot of great bands in Japan. Girls, boys or both. A really great number of them, but the language barrier and also the little interest from the japanese record labels to reach the western market is the reason because a lot are unknow here. Also, music is an compulsory subject in a lot of schools in Japan. They also have to learn to play an instrument, any instrument in High School, so every year you have thousands of new players. Some of them really good, so the level of professional bands is really high.
