The bow beating the axe is meant to represent ranged combat beating melee combat. Think about real life, assuming you can always hit shots, would you rather have a gun or bow, or an axe, bat, or sword?

But that only applies if you actually have enough range to your opponent. Doesn't matter much for a gun since you can still shoot at close range but if you're trying to use a bow while in melee range of someone with a melee weapon your chances of winning aren't high.

What about fire ice and water. The fire can melt the ice, the water puts out the fire, and ice can be placed on a water thus removing the water source block. Also you can’t light a fire under water, ice disappears when thrown in fire, and water doesn’t have any way to affect the ice block.

The only problem with this is the replace block command... But if cheats are disabled then maybe this will work

I use fence gates for my cactus farms cuz when opened, the fence gate has no hitbox, making the broken cactus pieces break off without the possibility of getting stuck

I think Phoenix sc isn't understanding that an axe has to get close enough to a bow. The bow can just run away while fighting back and the axe can't do anything about it, unless it also has a shield. If both were given equal advantages then the bow wins by turning the axe into a porcupine

Running forwards is faster than moving while charging a bow, so the axe wielder will catch up unless there'a a great distance between them.

​@@scr4932Right, but what about a max level Punch and Power enchanted bow ? I think enchanted bow beats axe. Someone should try it with two players in a 1 block wide corridor, one with a non enchanted axe and the other with the enchanted bow, and then adjusts the starting distance between them until the axe wielder cannot reach the bowman in time before dying. Then we could say : enchanted bow at away beats axe :)

@@loucantnot actually with max punch if the bow hits every sgot then I believe it will win even in a block distance aince the axe probably won't be able to kill the bow in 1 hit. And don't forget terain advantage and building. On top of that the bow can just keep running away while taking shots back now and then still gaining distance

@@scr4932heres the thing. Getting hit by an arow hurts and having to climb a mountain to get to the bow is a lot harder than in some place like the woods where theres plenty of cover. And even if it were in the woods max level knockback can keep the axe at bey. The bow has far more advantages against someone that doesn't have a shield compared to someone running strate at the shooter.

I have a good idea - Mushroom block, End portal frame, and axe. The axe can destroy the mushroom block, the mushroom block can destroy the end portal frame (via a glitch caused by growing a mushroom with bone meal under the portal), and the end portal cannot be destroyed by an axe.

Actually, yes. I’m pretty sure it _is_ possible to fill all the spaces of this periodic table using beds, without any leftover space. (Idk what the arrows are about, though) Also, I checked & it can be done even if you avoid the spaces with arrows. It works the same, regardless.

I get it, now. All the elements in the 2 bottom rows are between Barium/Hafnium & Radium/Rutherfordium. It’s been awhile since I’ve payed a lot of attention to the periodic table (it’s probably changed again, lol). It still seems weird that they would use arrows instead of just having it read Lanthanides & Actinides.

True aside from the "easily" part. It will cut, but doesn't do a very reliable job against most objects. Decent steel will barely scratch before the paper dulls enough to shred or explode.

@@Lancastriusthat's one of the ideas out there, but Roshambo is a rare name/word that language people don't know the origin of. The game itself originated in China, made its way to Japan, and from there spread to America and the western world in the early 1900's. Earlier versions in Japanese used different hand gestures that symbolized a slug, frog and snake. (I presume they just eat each other, but the slug is poisonous to the snake.)

I think phoenix sc is forgetting that rock paper scissors doesn't make complete sense either. If you gave someone a rock than they'd beat the hell out of anyone who was given paper

Depends on how many layers of paper it is. One sheet? Easily loses to rock. Five sheets? Most likely still loses to rock. 25 sheets? Probably enough to block most rocks. Paperback dictionary? Unless someone chips away at it for a while with the rock it’s safe to assume the dictionary wins by doing nothing.

@@VoidRift I was talking in the sense of the original comment involving people in a fight. Give someone a dictionary they can block rocks thrown at them, but if they’re up against scissors they can’t block a close-range melee weapon easily. Either they have too little paper to block the scissors or they can’t move the dictionary fast enough to block them. And then to finish the trifecta in a game of rock vs scissors the rock wins because unless the scissors person gets lucky they’re in far more danger of getting coconut thunk’d to death with a thrown rock than the other person is of being stabbed by thrown scissors. Yes I know this isn’t how you’re meant to play rock paper scissors, no I don’t care I think it’s funnier

These arguments almost always ignore that the game isn't about destroying stuff. It's about one object doing a particular job better than the other object. Paper does the better job of _covering_ the rock, than the rock could ever do to the paper. Also, since all three objects are formed from a human hand, assume same or similar mass of all three. That leads to a significant slab of paper, so the scissors cutting it can't be a slacker, either.

For the bow-axe-shield I think it’s kind of like a weapon triangle, like the one from fire emblem(sword beats axe, axe beats lance, and lance beats sword) So I think it isn’t for the bow being more powerful but rather having more range

This is the greatest Rock paper scissors representation in Minecraft.

The argument of cactus beating everything is flawed, as in real life a rock would never lose to paper. Therefore, according to actual rock paper scissors logic, it is fine that practically one beats the other two, as long as there is a way for one of them to in a way beat it (since rps just uses "magic").

Never is a big word. If you lay a single sheet of newspaper over half of a yard stick sitting atop a desk, you can hit the other half and easily break the yardstick. There is no reason you couldn't repeat this with a similarly-shaped thin piece of shale, sandstone...or many other rocks. Thus, paper easily defeats rock without needing to cover the entire thing. The game really isn't about usual or most likely situations, or even destroying anything. It's about one thing being better at _something_ than another. As the game is described, paper "covers" rock, it doesn't beat or break it. Given similar mass, paper will always cover rock, better than rock covers paper. (We're using our hands, so all three shaped objects usually have similar mass.)

@@VoltisArt When using the word “rock” I’m referring to a slightly larger pebble. Also, paper can cover scissors with the same mass, so either rps has logic or it doesn’t and it works with most items. Also, the yardstick breaks to shear force because of the air pressure differences made by the paper and table. The paper isn't the one breaking it. Also also, you need more than just the mass of the yardstick to have a table and paper.

If you stab a rock with scissors hard enough, you can shatter the rock. If you cut paper enough times, the scissors will become too dull to cut any more paper. And I'm pretty sure you can rip a hole in paper by throwing a rock through it.

Much of this is regional. An old Japanese version of the hand game that predates western ones was a slug, frog and snake. I'm guessing the slug is poisonous to the snake.

One of the weirdest culture shocks I've ever experienced was when I moved to Australia and discovered that they say "scissors paper rock" instead of "paper scissors rock" like we say in New Zealand (and I suppose "rock paper scissors is the generic worldwide one that people use online to avoid arguments, so it's probably what Americans and/or British people say)

It's regional, even within Australia. I think most U.S. folks go with "rock, paper, scissors," while the UK and some parts of North America evidently prefer "scissors, paper, stone." I read the name "Quartz, parchment, shears," for the first time today, while looking this up. Don't know where that fancy one came from.

My personal rock-paper-scissors suggestion: Shears v Wool v Skulk Shrieker (Shears destroy Wool, Wool prevents the activation of a Skulk Shrieker, and Skulk Shriekers cannot be destroyed by pair of Shears)

While not the appropriate tool, shears break shriekers as well as fists or anything else that isn't a hoe. I'm not saying this breaks your idea of RPS, but the "cannot" is wrong. People try to pick apart most versions of RPS using similar logic, (almost always victimizing paper,) but the game isn't based on one thing breaking the other; it's based on a tool doing one job better than another in most situations. Paper can cut or smash, rocks can cut or cover, and scissors can cover or smash, but these aren't their usual jobs. Perhaps...Shrieker summons Warden who "steals your shears." (....and your other items, health, XP...heh.)

I didn’t really mean it as in “shears are incapable of breaking shriekers,” most items can technically break all blocks, I meant that the shrieker doesn’t drop when you attempt to break a it with a pair of shears as opposed to when you break one with a silk pickaxe or something

I thought of one of these at one point. I am surprised so many people had the same idea, and that so many people did a terrible job. Here it is instead of rock paper scisors I give you "Golem, Pillar, Wither" Because you pillar up to fight a golem, and if you pillar to fight a wither the wither gets to kill you easy, and one of the best ways to kill the wither is to trap it in a cave with half a dozen golems. This completes the cycle without anything weird like paper covering rock.

I finally found the real way to do it! -Enderman beats dirt block by picking it up -Water beats enderman by damaging it -Dirt block blocks out water source

Bow vs axe with no shield in: Early game: axe can't close distance. Winner: bow. Middlegame: axe will lose too much HP before closing distance. Advantage: bow. Late game: bow has higher DPS AND axe can't close distance. Winner: bow. Endgame: bow has higher DPS. Advantage: bow.

"Quartz parchment shears" is evidently a fancy alternate name for the real game. Two out of three actual MC items.

If 2 equal capability players fought, one with an axe and one with a bow, the one with the bow would always win.

Mine was shield - blocks netherite sword netherite sword - beats wooden axe (damage and speed) wooden axe - destroys shield

skeleton kills steve, steve tames wolf, wolf kills skeleton I know that steve can kill a skeleton but maybe this is early game steve or something

Should really be a K/D ratio for each, with it specified whether we are talking about block vs item, block vs action, and block vs block.
