Roborock S5 S6 Charging Error 13 Repair - Capacitor not Mainboard or Fuse

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Most videos report that for Error 13, if cleaning the charging contacts do not work, you need to change the mainboard fuse. But for S5 & S6, the fault often lies with the charging dock, and in particular the capacitor. I changed the capacitor in 3 of my defective charging docks and they are now all working. I was not able to change the 4th charging dock as I had thrown it away. Try it!
P.s. seems like the PCB for S7 onwards may be different.

@@KSToh It is, if you heat up both the pin and the pad it takes about max 10 seconds. Then apply soldet to a little blob. It fills the hole nice. Othervise there is just a solderblob stuck to the pin... not really attatched to the board.

Thank you for this. Saved me from buying a new vacuum for a $3 part!!! I previously changed the thermal fuse thingee on the motherboard. That helped error 13 for a little bit, but it came right back eventually. This capacitor / procedure fixed it. So far so good, no error 13 after about 20 runs & it used to happen 80% of the time. Be careful what capacitor you order people. First one I ordered was correct spec but way too tall to fit. The second one I got was similar specs & just a hair smaller. That one worked. I dunno if it matters, but the capacitors do have polarity. The side with the dash or line is negative.

‼️‼️ DANGER ‼️‼️ ATTENTION ‼️‼️ You should be informed in detail about the subject of electrolytic capacitors beforehand. It should definitely be unloaded beforehand. There can be voltages of over 300V at the Elko. It is also important to pay attention to the installation direction. An electrolytic capacitor has a plus and minus pole. If the connection is incorrect, there is a risk of an explosion, which can be dangerous. Therefore, do not handle it as carelessly as shown here. GOOD LUCK and good success! 😊

@@KSToh My friend... If that's your first time, you did well. The reason why I stated "good quality cap" is because I did what you did exactly including the rubycon to generic "bait & switch". After changing mine it worked... For 20 minutes then the dock exploded. Opened it back up to find the cap legs had arced across & left a black carbon Arc on the board. That event took out 2 diodes, the main fuse & had completely vapourised 2 tracks on the circuit board. I suspected the cap & removed it to find it was reading around 61uf instead of the 68uf rating. Should have checked it first. That alone shouldn't cause the dock to go bang as the original was reading 57uf. Something about that cap caused a high voltage Arc between its pins on the board. Now, as stated before.... You did well. If you get some soldering flux and put a little of it with the extra solder it really makes a difference. Your iron tip should be clean and silver shiny. If you have layers of black carbon then your iron isn't actually touching the solder & that's commonly the reason why you need to push the iron hard into the work. That cracks off some of carbon & a small surface of your iron now touches the work. Simply wait until the iron is hot enough to use & dip the tip in the same flux & then you can easily solder. Ps I got my $5 back on the dodgy cap....... Unfortunately the damage it did was worth more =(

Thanks for the video, it pointed out a clue. About a month ago I replaced the capacitor with a new one (high quality Panasonic 400V/68uF), unfortunately today the problem returned, the device charged to more than 80%. If I understand correctly, its function is to filter input voltage fluctuations (in my case it's 230V, so with a tolerance of 10% 253V). Taking this into account, the voltage value of the capacitor should be above 356V, so 400V is theoretically sufficient. Could it be that something else is the problem in the power supply circuit? I'm thinking of changing to a capacitor with a higher voltage and higher capacitance, just not sure if it will fit.

Forgotten tip: I saw your robot's dock. Tip's point: If your robot's dock is on a wooden floor, u should put there a plastic mat at the floor, in the front of your dock. The plastic mat (AKA Moisture Proof Mat or MPM) looks like a plastic circle, but cutted after a form of a cockroach's head. You put the plastic mat in the front of your robot's dock on the floor, and then move your robot manually to its dock, and then it charges. Warning: Do not get wet the plastic mat, otherwise the wetness will cause moisture damage to the MPM, and Error 13 will happen again. This may work.
