Kids these days will never understand how good these arcade perfect games looked for us kids back in the day. Arcade, coin ups were new and improving at a super fast rate. This game here was one of the best of its time. Hard as nails but totally immersive.

The NES version sucks! Because Ocean developed the game and ended up published by Data East. The NES version wasn't as good as the original arcade. Stick with the original arcade version.

The Robocop NES game was not that bad. I would say it's very underrated. By itself it isn't bad, but when you consider it's a movie license game, its actually quite good. Robocop 2 and Robocop 3 were atrocious. If Ocean did in fact develop the 1st game, then I don't know why they moved to a different game engine that included platform jumping. I rather enjoyed that the first one just had walking and climbing. Having said that, the arcade version does bring back some great memories.

This is only one of 2 games in my life I could beat. (The other was Operation Wolf.) You can also kill ED-209 at the end of Wave 1 by keeping the 3-way gun and going all the way to the right of the screen, point up and right, and jumping repeatedly and shooting as much as you can, starting before he even shows up on the screen. I think if you're really conservative with your shots, you can save the cobra gun for the wrecking ball guy. I spent a *lot* of quarters on this game. :-)

If you lined up the tip of the cobra gun so that it ran parallel with the ground to the right of the lift at 6:12 and fired a shot, it activated a cheat where your score would keep going up until you fired another shot.

The programmers really paid attention to many aspects of the film and its storyline and if you're really eagled eyed, there's a trick that you can pull off which is a humorous call back by the programmers to a pivotal and funny scene.

Bravo Zulu on not losing a life throughout the entire game. The Robocop games are always in pattern to defeat the enemy. Robocop vs Terminator is another example.

This is arcade game is perfection. People don't realise how good the game actually is. It's the perfect balance, the music is great the pacing is great, the bosses, the guns, the sound are all great. Also a perfect movie to game adaptation. It was and still is in my opinion one of the best games ever made.

I remember the arcade version when I was in PathMark in Brooklyn since I was a youngster along with "Vs. Super Mario Bros." which was the arcade port of an NES game. This brings back memories, but this would be a great idea for an upcoming "4 O'Clock Game" episode in honor of the new "RoboCop" movie which will be coming out soon. I'll do the arcade version and the NES version.

Thank you for enjoying it. Don't worry, I couldn't even go beyond the second or third boss when I played this game on coin operated arcade machines either; one has to play it like a thousand times before hoping to beat it on one coin.

The trick is to make the games hard enough that people have to keep sticking quarters in; but not so hard that they say "fuck this" and move to another game. I recently started a gaming channel. I will have to add some of these old arcade games. I beat Sly Spy a number of times. I will have to see about doing that again.

Just btw., you HAD to be able to pass this game on one coin - and get BOTH perfect bonus rounds, for health... Because, once you'd die - health would reset to the starting and no bonus (& then it becomes pretty impossible to finish it. :)); sometimes, only sometimes, I remember passing it with only ONE bonus - like, making it to second bonus round with *that extra coin, hehe. :$

That's about how I used to play this back in 1989. I used to destroy this game 2/3 times a week and often had crowds around me. It was all just about remembering where the enemies came from, and conserving shots from the powerful gun. If you saved as many shots from the powerful gun as you could, you could destroy the final boss in like 3 seconds with it.

This arcade game was developed and published by Data East in 1988 based on the 1987 film of the same name. In the game, a player controls RoboCop who advances through various stages that are taken from the 1987 movie. The bonus screen is a target shooting range that uses a first-person perspective. The intermission features digitized voices from the actors. It was sub-licensed to Data East by Uk-based Ocean Software, who in turn had obtained the rights from Orion Pictures at the script stage. The 1988 run & gun and beat 'em up hybrid arcade game developed and published by Data East, was licensed from a computer game company rather than the other way around. This is why the arcade game bears a licence credit for Ocean. It has more recently appeared on mobile phones. The IBM and Apple ports were produced by US-based Quicksilver Software. Unlike the other home versions, the Commodore 64 version is a mostly original game that only loosely follows the arcade RoboCop. In addition to a different soundtrack, the boss battles are replaced with a screen where the player must shoot a man holding a woman hostage (without hitting her). The original European cassette tape version was notorious for a huge number of bugs (which were cleaned up in the US disk release). The games capture the spirit of the RoboCop film to some degree, as it involves killing generic criminals and enemy bosses, like the dangerous ED-209. Being quite popular, RoboCop was followed by several sequels (most of them handled by Ocean), including RoboCop 2, RoboCop 3, and RoboCop versus The Terminator which was developed for, but never released in arcades, and was later ported to several other consoles including the Sega Mega Drive, Super NES, Nintendo Game Boy, Sega Game Gear, and even as a final generation title for the Sega Master System in Europe.

Nice to hear the original theme. So many games around that time would be spinoffs, but wouldn't have the actual soundtracks.

Robocop and Double Dragon - two game to spent money for back in the days. :) For Every Boss here was a way to take as little damage as possible. Second one for example - don't take 3way - stick with double - save as much as you can and chainsaw guys fall after two shots. Wrecking ball if you didn't have the big one - you could sit with gun pointed at an angle and while you hit him he couldn't get you. And so on :) Great playing BTW.

You didnt have to worry about kids playing to many computer games in them days........we usually got board waiting for em to load and just went out to steal cars instead lol
