Do these cars use some type of engine braking to help slow off high speed sections and roll the corners..that might be a stupid ? But it sure sounds and looks like it
The fact he was unable to down shift on much of the course, almost to the point of stalling, and yet to still win is testament to the rest of the car, and Robins skill as a driver. Great achievement!

@@crabapple1974 No. I watched the steering wheel the whole time, gears go down when he shifts down, throughout the course. That sound u hear, like the gearbox is going to fall apart, is actually the unburned fuel from lifting off the throttle, combusting in the exhaust pipes. In some other instances, his revs drop low, or low for that engine at least, and that may seem as if he was stuck in a higher gear than he should be in, but hes not; those were his driving errors, and that's what he meant when he said it was a "messy run"! The car was just fine, take another look...

Started having shift problems on Friday. Got a friend to get parts from sadev and fly in Friday night but unfortunately there is likely a bigger issue in the gearbox. Going into engineers corner robin was stuck in 4th instead of 2nd.

You, your car and your crew are amazing to manage a win without being able to down shift. I put Tri-Y headers, Gibson performance exhaust and a cold air intake on my 2001 Tacoma, 3.4 liter 4x4 Xtra cab truck to improve performance and fuel economy. I always drive it in it's optimal power range which of course means down shifting as needed. I went last year, 100th anniversary and Ken Block was supposed to run his brand new Porsche built specifically for Pike's Peak, the Hoonipigasus. His car had problems and he didn't race that day, and it was like 200ft visibility and below freezing with on and off rain. One of the drivers went off course and it took over 10 minutes before anyone even realized because he hadn't made it to the next checkpoint.
