He obviously likes the guy, he said it at the beginning, so he's talkative and comfortable. Maybe he just needs to respect the guy he's talking to for making conversation.

+Drew Layton De Niro nearly got into a fight with a well respected veteran British film critic Barry Norman who asked De Niro why he was offered Tom Hanks role in Big (1988). De Niro didn`t like him asking that and said after the interview 'you had to get that in there', Norman chased after him and they went at it! De Niro was about to punch him and before that during the interview De Niro would only answer questions with one word answers. Very introverted, complex man.

i have no idea what you are talking about, de niro seemed like he didn't want to be there, after asking him about his dads documentary and his children, he admitted that he was uncomfortable which upset stephen (you can see it on his face) because stephen was trying to make a good interview while de niro wasn't even trying giving short answers, it all went downhill further from there

You only talk if you are going to add something to the conversation, otherwise you're just being repetitive and people like him doesn't like that... is preferrable to be at silent then to be repetitive because that way you will be only pushing yourself away from him, he's gonna get bored and not gonna show until an accumulated time... that's how it goes

De Niro Giving this compliment to Cobert has so much meaning. De Niro is shy and quite introvert, but his words are gold whatever he says.

Deniro is usually so quiet in interviews it's painful to watch the interviewer squirming to get more than four words out of him at a time. I wasn't even going to watch this because I like Colbert and didn't want to see him fall flat like everyone else. But this was the best interview I've seen with Deniro. He actually got him laughing and talking. I didn't think it could be done!

For a guy who's very talented in movies, De Niro really doesn't talk too much in his interviews.

+HarryVictor I don't think it's the talent he's talking about. I think it's just the fact that he's a very well known and acclaimed actor. Most of us, I believe, consider actors and actresses to be very outgoing, eager, and in a way, go-get-em. So, when one is supposedly shy and laid back (literally drinking martinis on a couch and just having a conversation), it seems out of place. It's just such a contrast from their roles. I don't know though. I'm just saying what I find interesting and what I see (generally).

Culprit LA idk meet the fockers was kinda funny, I had a few good laughs, obviously it wasnt as good as his older movies but you gotta remember that the prime of his acting career was like 30 years ago, he did some awesome movies in the 90s too like casino and goodfellas, also I loved heat, but now de niro is very old so its probably very hard for him to even get offered any good roles so he needs to take these bad movies just to get a paycheck

Yeah, he was talking about Dave. Watching this De Niro/Hoffmann interview we clearly see that Dave gets pissed because De Niro is completely ignoring him, but the hatred De Niro have towards Dave comes from something beyond that interview.

I wish the audience was quiet as well. It would have wrapped up the episode perfectly.

Stephen Colbert is a genius, IMHO. De Niro's praise of him isn't an overstatement.

This man is immortal

A huge accomplishment for Colbert to get DeNiro to feel at home and to open up some. Well done!

This guy is one of those people who truly deserves the fame and money he has he has dedicated his life to the art nothing but RESPECT

Colbert did a great job with a star who's known as a tough interview.

This is what I love about Colbert, he is REAL. He doesn't get celebrities on the show just to congratulate them and saying how good they are and basically kiss their a$$. I'm sure no other talk show host would talk to De Niro as if he's just a regular friend, but Colbert did it perfectly.

"Whadda you think?" Best answer to a great question.

"to silence..." Everyone promptly breaks into loud applause

Some people don't know how to do silence. Some people don't know how to just shut up. Like the audience.

Wow! This shows why Stephen is so great. He is working HARD to get De Niro to talk and then he decides that he's gonna accept it and it works perfectly. A very skilled talk show host!

I know a lot of people say he's lost it and makes a lot of bad movies now, but I don't think that's the case. He's still as great as he ever was, I think he just takes roles that make sense to him at his age. He's already done action movies and gangster movies, it's almost beating a dead horse. Now that people have come to expect that from him I think he feels typecast and so just does movies that he wants to do. The man must be tired as well of going through changing his body so much. He is 72 for god's sake.

Robert De Niro is the only man who can pull off a bun and still look awesome.

I love how humble and mellow De Niro is! It's just such a departure from his acting roles. I was so surprised the first time I saw him in an interview and he "acted" like that. Haha. It just shows what a tremendous actor is really is!

That minute of silence was hands down the best interview ever broadcasted on tv.

0:45 when DeNiro says that to you you've pretty much won as a person and a talk show host.

You gotta admire this man! What a living legend!

I am deeply touched by the way he honors his Dad and the latter's art. I think he is a good son, an amazing actor and a wonderful private individual. Love his candor, sense of humour and modesty. At his age, he will still be an interesting dinner companion. Love him to the moon and back and to the moon again. He is still gorgeous, by the way.

Robert De Niro is somewhat luxury, but very humble in the inside, and the way he laugh soothed me.

Sometimes Colbert's mistakes are so well placed they almost seem scripted. Deniro: "Hold that so it doesn't fall off" *5 seconds later it falls off* I love it.

I had tears running down my face I laughed so hard during the 3 Santas bit at the end.

Craig Ferguson did the best silences... I miss that guy...
