Robbie Maddison talks about his gnarliest jump - The Corinth Canal in Greece

When you look at the amazing career of Robbie Maddison, it's hard to imagine that he would have a 'gnarliest' jump... They all seem so insane. Hearing Robbie talk about this jump is enough to give you chills.

I was in Greece on a student trip and we happened upon this jump the day he did it. Then on our flight home, him and his wife sat behind us. I was a young kid and told all my friends it was “Ronnie Renner” , the guy we saw jump. I saw his wife chuckling and when I got home and looked it up I realized it was Robbie. My bad man 😂

Cool story but it was wrong for Robbie not to mention the Service Honda CR500AF.. He could have mentioned speed and or power of the bike.

Whenever I hear "daredevils" comment on their stunts I always feel there is a lot of overselling because that's how they make money. I feel there's some dishonesty because, while I understand the consequences of a problem are a lot bigger when trying to jump over 200ft, the methodology is very similar to when you're jumping 100ft. As long as the ramp, run-up and landing are built nicely and wind is predictable, an experienced motocross rider will make it without much consequence. The only difference between Robbie Maddison and Ryan Dungey is that Dungey never needed to do these things to earn some cash. Ryan is probably even more qualified than Robbie to pull this kind of thing.

@@GYPSYTALES - It's their business, of course they're gonna say it's superhard... but the real difference between a motocross and a daredevil jump is closer to the difference between K90, K120 and K180 ski jumps. It's longer, it's riskier, more things can go wrong... but the basics are the same.

@@GYPSYTALES - Ski jumping is probably the most progressive sport there is and one of the riskiest too. You start as a kid jumping literally 40-50ft and by the time you're in your late teens you're supposed to turn pro and jump 400ft (take-off speed is 50mph) every weekend and then a couple of times per season you got the "ski flying" events where you're literally jumping up to 700ft (take-off at 60-65mph). Wanna know their protective gear? A HELMET, that's it. Watch some ski jump crashes and never forget that it's routine for them and that there's only a shitty helmet "protecting" them. Daredevils are just up-selling their stuff, it's all about the hype, has been the same since the 19th-century circus days. The reality is that wayyy more people than some think can do it no problem.

@@DanArnets1492 Ski jumping and ski flying are dangerous in their own right, however they are going down onto a near constant slope of about 35 degrees with a surface offering little friction. In the instance of a fall, they are more likely to slide than anything else and have nothing to hit or run into on the way. Comparing that to jumps like Robbie has done is pointless as they have been completely different to anything else ever done and involved all sorts of hazards in the process. Like how can you compare jumping onto a building (and then jumping back down) to ski jumping? They are worlds apart!

@@petejay75 - Tell that to Primoz Roglic, he went from being like top40 worldwide to being so fucked up he retired and switched to road cycling. Also, a bunch of guys have had career-ending injuries, shit's stupidly dangerous and they only wear some 1980s-style helmet.
