Josh Hill - I told Yamaha I'd cut them loose at 17 - Gypsy Tales Podcast

Спорт

Josh Hill had one of the craziest rookie contracts in the history of the sport. At 17, with a less than compeitive bike, he told Yamaha he was going to cut them loose if they didn't let him ride a 450.
A hilarious story when Hill tells it back!

@Truth Is In Nature absolutely. I blame big pharma 100% they see us all as cattle and dollar signs. Just wait until they try to pump us all full of this fucking covid vaccine. I'm not interested in participating in population control. I raced from 8-21 yrs old and at 15 head a compound fracture of my tib/fib and was on and off opiates ever since. I'm over a year with no opiates at all and I still haven't come completely out of the haze. I had a pro license when I was 17-18 and I'll never know what could have been if I had never touched an opiate. They took the best years of my life. If you think it's not a problem ask Hill, ask stroupe ask izzi and in my opinion since the arm injury ask fucking Ken roczen.

Kicked the opiates after a multi year addiction. I was about an hour away from home riding with a buddy on our 450 race ATVs and I was a beginner on any off-road machines at the time besides riding a mountain bike at 25mph maybe. Crashed at about 15 mph and didn't have any protective gear besides a helmet. Crash caused my lower back to have a bulging disc. But it did help me get pumped to go open my own biz and I needed it to do work and it helped me make good money so that's what made it way harder to get off

  • @xSophieX

Really interesting to read about the opiate problem in motocross and sad that there isn't anything done. In horse racing in the UK we have the Injured Jockeys fund which helps injuried jockeys to rehab after injuries but have also helps riders here with addictions (less opiates as UK it's far harder to get presribed the stonger pain meds than it is in the US) maybe a charity or something needs setting up specifically for injured and/or addicted moto riders...

Yet it was the kids fault if he got strung out by the time he was 24. I can only imagine in MX what it was like. Opiates are tough and once yer in yer struggling for years. And a rib I cased a double hands came off the bards flew off! So I’m sitting here broken back but 8 days out of ICU I had to get a pain killer refill! The fucking surgeons offfice is like nope we only give pain meds if you had surgery! I was still not sleeping in bed up all night with pain levels at 6-7 and these fuckers were afraid to prescribe pain pills! Thank God I knew a doctor that was about to look at the scenario and give me a couple weeks worth! To get me through I’m fine now only take 1 a week maybe if I do too much and get soar! But these doctors lost their damn minds 7 days out of ICU broken back I assure you it’s ok to prescribe pain meds nobody is questioning that!

I broke my T5,T6 my first bad crash and luckily I had strict trainers that wouldn't let me stay on meds. My second bad one was L2 , my tailbone and a foot and was ready to get off meds to get back riding. My last was a C2,C6,C7, andT1 and had a three level spinal fusion and I was still in the hospital and nurse was trying to give me a Darvocet N100 while I still had a IV in. Luckily I was ready to heal up and adapted but I blamed all of the drug attics for screwing it up for everybody. I do look at things different now and with all my nerve pain and headaches weed does help. Really like my neck hurt so damn bad that no pain meds helped it just got my mind out of it. But I can calm down on weed. I do feel for my buddies that get caught up on it but I really only hang out with Moto guys that can relate. I retired now and all I do is skydive now. It's a lot safer. I miss racing Moto but I stay involved in it. I actually fly over Chad Reed's house all the time and dream about. I do think weed is better than alcohol all day long!!!!! Injuries are gonna happen. I have had over a dozen surgeries through the years. And I still wouldn't change a thing. I always dreamed of making a million but instead I made a million for the Dr! But those Drs did put me back together!!

rfunder12 it’s actually not an opioid. People use it to get off opioids no it’s not an actual opioid. It comes from a species of tree that’s similar to coffee. Do a quick google search on it and it’ll give way more info

GYPSY TALES actually endone is just an Australian brand name of Oxycodone hydrochloride. The commenter above is right. Endone is oxy. Just like Percocet is a brand name for oxycodone with acetaminophen. There are a million different brands for the same drug. Oxycodone is the generic name of the drug in these medications. Just like hydrocodone is the generic drug in drugs like Vicodin, Norco, Lortab etc...

I’m just a opiate/Heroin addict in long term recovery who also happened to study pharmacology so it’s kinda a pet peeve I have where I have to correct people all over social media when they post misinformation or have questions regarding a medicine🤷‍♂️ on the topic of addiction though get Stroupey or Nico on if at all possible! I think stroupe is doing well now. Guess not so sure about nico haven’t heard anything on him in forever

If you could just help a brotha out and branch away from that it would be a small change that would make a big difference in the quality of your already great podcast. Thanks for the insights! Looking back on my party days everyone around me that smoked a lot of weed, 20 years later they are all still under-achievers. Pot is still for losers just like it always was.
