    @@GoodStuff1992 No, the same way you wouldn't take into consideration blocking a jab. Defending strikes and submission attempts is not weighed at all according to the Unified Rules. Even If the effective striking/grappling was equal, we would have to go based on the effective aggressiveness which means that the attacker takes the round and the one defending loses it.

    Insane how Bisping and some fans were acting like this was a dominant performance for Adesanya when the rounds he won were incredibly close except the first. I thought Whittaker won 2,4,5 but listening to Bisping you would think Izzy won 50 - 45 before the fight even began

    In-general, I've noticed that the commentators seem determined to put Izzy over as some kind of devastating knock-out artist. But his only truly stupendous knock-outs in the UFC have been Whittaker 1 (and if I remember right, he had just recovered from an illness at the time) and Costa (who, let's be honest, isn't exactly bringing a 300 Fight IQ to the table). Not to say Izzy isn't immensely talented, of course. However, he's definitely more of a point fighter than this precision knock-out machine, and I don't think he's nearly as unbeatable as the UFC suits would have you believe.

    His argument was that Izzy was winning the rounds but they were all very close other than the first and maybe the fifth. 2,3,4 were almost swing rounds but imo lost 3 and 4 by a small margin, and I can see the argument for why Adesanya took every round except the fifth. Dominance on the scorecard doesn’t always show the full picture.

A 10-8 under the new rules may be a 10-9 under the old, for example. Under the new rules it's mostly damage over everything and attempts to finish a fight. For example a takedown doesn't mean anything at all by itself. Under the old rules it's something that gives you points by itself. Ultimately, not all states adopted the new rules. Texas is one of those states. The Weasle judged this under the new unified rules and that's the wrong criteria to judge this fight. Two things Izzy had going for him in the fight in his defence. His TDD was a beautiful display at times, and key to keeping it where he needed it to be. Rob couldn't really impose his will with his wrestling effectively, and it certainly wasn't for want of trying. Second thing, I think Izzy caused more physical damage. You just have to look at both of them after the fight. I wouldn't have been upset with a draw and then running it back for the trilogy.

    @@Charles-mv7sv That's actually the exact opposite of true. A dominant champ actually lowers viewing numbers, the commentary and punditry have a vested interest to convince the viewers that the challenger has a real shot at defeating the champion or there's little to no drama to get people interested in watching. (This is largely why Jon Jones didn't do very well in pay-per-view numbers even before his own character started getting in his way, people just couldn't see his opponent's beating him, and far fewer people are willing to pay to see a fight if they are already sure of the outcome.) I think what Bisping and the commentary crew were getting swept up in was the way Izzy was controlling the fight. Izzy wasn't doing anything too special for the most part, but nothing Rob did ever seemed to manage to throw Izzy off his game, while up until the last couple rounds the same couldn't have been said for Rob. Definately not trying to say they weren't overselling Izzy's performance or underselling Rob, but that goes against the interest's of the UFC. (Biggest money making opportunity for the UFC would have been to have Rob win, and set up a true trilogy.)

    This is not an objective breakdown per se. While obviously he tried to approach it as objectively and neutral as one can, in every interpretation of those shots (i.e. if you count the heavy leg kicks as only medium, or the snapping back of a head after a jab, when the fighters head was in a backwards movement before the strike even landed etc.) there will ultimately be some bias and personal opinions involved & TheWeasel never denied this and stated that this is his opinion and not a ultimate objective breakdown by some kind of machine.

I think for the Round 2 analysis, if you're saying that only one fighter landed a heavy blow, you don't really need to consider whether the light strike imbalance was covered or not, because immediate impact is weighted more heavily than cumulative impact. Rob's performance + emotions +Bisping egregious commentary will do that to you. I watched this bout on TV, but I actually had it 4-1 for Izzy at first. So much so, I didn't even bother with the decision. Then I witnessed the controversy online and decided to watch the fight again (in better state of mind) the fight again and my opinion drastically changed for the better. Rob's performance: with his improved striking, I was expecting much better performance (especially after the Gastelum bout) from Rob. However, the strategy he employed didn't incite confidence in me (proven by the knockdown) and Rob (given he's demeanour on the stool after the first round). Emotions: the emotional toll that emerged from a lackluster performance in the first and early portion of the second waned my confidence so much that I undermine Rob's performance in the remaining rounds. Bisping: while I was (thanks to the above mentions) swayed by the commentary, I was cognizant enough to recognise the dick riding in the boot (particularly from Bisping). This is one of the reasons I watch any fight at least twice. Rob 2, 4, 5.

Even Cejudo (as cringe as he can be) said anyone who thinks Rob won is delusional and the grappling meant nothing because nothing happened with it. That left hook from Rob in the second round being a "heavy" strike is extremely subjective. Excellent breakdown as always. For Whittaker, the way I could have seen him clearly beating Adesanya is for him to be able to check those leg kicks, that was a huge advantage for Izzy. Also, Robert was able to take Izzy down this time but had he been able to keep him down and use some effective grappling, he would have been able to win. With the nature of combat sports being so hard to judge, using the ability to review every single detail of a fight is one of the most objective tools we have. Thank you for your knowledge and effort

  • @lovelylemonfactory

    @lovelylemonfactory

    They're not "actual points" though The Weasle has invented a scoring system that is not accurate. There is a reason he always has a different result to the judges and always has a different result than Big John(you know the guy who made the rules). It's cause his interpretation of what a heavy shot is, is wrong. His videos are literally just a fan rambling and his interpretation of the rules is impossible to enforce because of how subjective they are. A "heavy" shot is judged by how the opponent reacts to it not how hard The Weasle thinks it was. Izzy walks through the "heavy" shot in the second round and therefore it's not scored any differently to the rest of the strikes in the round. There is no light, medium, heavy strike counting in MMA judging. That's make believe The Weasle somehow managed to say that Francis lost the 5th round in against Gane while having 3 minutes of control and 1 strike less. He now says Whitaker won the 2nd round while having no control from the takedown AKA not effective grappling and 4 shots less. He's inconsistent in his analysis and somehow manages to be wrong 90% of the time.

    I was thinking about how to weigh the a number of light strikes vs 1 heavy or medium strikes and it occurred to me: which would I rather get hit by? I'd take 20 light blows before 1 heavy probably. 8-10 light strikes before a medium one. The judging criteria: immediate impact trumps cumulative damage feels better when I think about it this way.

    I think Rob nearly beat him with a jab. The UFC striking stats are always wacky af. I genuinely remember about 3 punches landing for Adesanya. Rob jabbed him a lot and Adesanya kicked him a lot. Not enough for taking the belt away but Adesanya was not impressive to me. He nearly lost to a jab. It'll be weird to see him deal with Strickland's output. I think a draw should have been put outm

    Brilliant breakdown. Yeah although I do think Izzy probably “did enough” to get the W, I definitely wholeheartedly think the commentary was leaning way too hard on him. I agree that you have to go and take the belt to be a decisive champ like Izzy always says, but like.. there’s scoring for a reason, and this fight is that exact reason. So damn close. Was hoping Rob would bring it home and I’m even happier after seeing this breakdown that my own analysis while watching the fight wasn’t just countrymen bias 😂
