ROAM Australia - heading into the outback on a solo motorbike camping adventure S2 Episode 1

I'm on the Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle again heading off to roam around Australia. First I am heading into the outback to find some great dirt tracks to explore.

Hey mate recent subscriber here, love your content & the photography, absolutely gorgeous! Can’t you get an annual or lifetime National Park Pass that covers the entrance fees & such, we have those options here in the U.S.. that covers all National Parks in the country, wasn’t sure how that works there & how much it is? I’d HIGHLY recommend some heated gear for the cooler weather, I have a heated vest & I should’ve bought one years ago, game changer for sure! Cheers mate from a friendly neighbor across the pond, you’re always welcome here in Arizona

  • @freewayproject

Hi mate, glad you are enjoying the series. In Australia there is no National Parks Pass, National parks in each state are managed by the state (set up a hundred years ago and back then obviously they didn't foresee how things might change in the future and so far they haven't adjusted for the present) but yes it would be good to have it here too. With heated gear it would be great but where I live I wouldn't use it and on this trip I already have too much gear and once I head north I'll be wanting to ride in just a T-shirt as it will be really hot up there. It's manageable at the moment as I hit the coldest part of the trip (I was wanting to leave a couple months earlier as the weather would have been warmer and less rain but couldn't get away, and I didn't want to wait for next year so it the price I have to pay) I'll have to save up for a heat vest incase I going for another long ride in the winter. I've been through Arizona once but not on a bike, I have heard it has awesome trails to ride there.

Thanks Joe, reminds me of my youth 30 years ago when I started ADV riding, I would recommend an electric heated jacket from Venture heat Zarkie, as you don't need so many layers and be restricted in movement. Also a thin layer of foam earth mat on the chest to insulate from the cold, no issues in riding when in the -5 c temps and below.

  • @freewayproject

Thanks Rob, I wonder if they have one that also turns into a cool jacket 🤔, as soon as I start heading north it will get hotter and hotter until I just want to be riding in a T-Shirt 😂😂😂. I'll look into them

I think your content is great, you need to add drone shots so make it more appealing for people. show your camping and cooking process apparently people love it. you content should be 75% scenery and travel stuff and 25% your travel process.

Thanks for your feed back J B. I am glad you are enjoying the series. I do have drone shot through the series but unfortunately in Australia there are a lot of places you are not allow to fly drone (if you do there are large fines, if I posted shots taken where it is not allow it is evidence for the government to fine me). I do show the setup of my camp, but it would get borrowing if I showed the same thing every time over 50 videos so far so I show different aspect of my set up, I also have a couple different reviews of the gear I use as it changes with each trip. I do not cook while on traveling as you'll see if you watch more of the series, being on a bike with very limited space I have to cut down where ever I can, due to a lot of the places I go being very isolated and there is not the ability to get fresh food, I basically stick to tin food, bars etc and when I do come into a town I'll get fruit and something fresh, I show this is the series also. Hopefully there are other channels that show the cooking process that they do for people who would like to see that. Thanks again.

@@rcaverma Hi J B, I normally make feature length documentaries, these series are only blogs as they take some time to put together I do the quickest edit I possible can as they are only done in my spare time which I don't have a lot of. With feature documentaries I have a whole year or more to plan, film and edit, these episodes I have only days and even that is not enough time to do them properly. If I could do this full time then I could produce them how I would like, as they are only for fun, this is all I can do at the moment. The Himalayan is a fun reliable bike to have and very capable, you'll enjoy it

I think your format is perfect. I watch alot of motorcycle adventure channels and this is by far the best. One thing I like is there isn't a bunch of over done drone shots to death. In my opinion Joe keeps it simple and clearly isnt a rookie smashing out the drone shots which often add nothing. Joe's keeps the talking to the right amount. Half the other channels eithier drone on continually or do completely boring silent vlogs. Joe mixes it up perfectly with factual information, light heart observations, jokes and chat and technical information. Even the music is bang on. Seriously if you are making any critical judgements on Joe's videos you have no clue. But as usual people can't help themselves but sit in there arm chairs and offer advice. Please Joe pay no attention to the previous comments and keep up the amazing work in the format you use.

Hi mate. Yes light is the biggest issue right at the moment I got 700km, but I’m not sure there’s enough light unless you don’t stop. No issue with fuel. I also have the 2 jerry cans on the bike which gives me a range of 750km roughly (if I’m not heavy on the throttle. Camping on the side of the road is fine. Just get off enough so you’re not visible. Everyone has there own thing going on to worry about someone camping on the side of the road

We're doing the reverse in Aug/Sep heading to Cameron Corner, Haddon Corner, Birdsville, maybe Poeppel Corner then down through The Flinders and back through Mungo so am looking forward to following your trip. I found the best way to keep the wind chill out is to have two piece wet weather gear ( do away with the jackets wet weather liner ) and wear the jacket outside my riding jacket. Plus you don't look like a flying condom like a onesie😂.

It's interesting that the bigger supermarkets either side of the agriculture check points do not advertise that certain foods cannot be taken across the borders. Maybe someone needs to establish covered tables in proximity and on the other side of the road so food is not wasted. On our numerous trips Perth to east coast locations and return we have seen travellers being relieved of numerous items and sometimes with a fine imposed . Sometimes not even foods but even the boxes that certain foods come in.

Hi Russ, it’s good to be back. I do the basic maintenance replacing the chains replacing oil, oil filters etc ‘s, but I do try and get it into service every now and then to get an expert to check the damage I do to i😂😂😂 I get 450 km per tank and with the two side Jerry cans which are 5 L I get 750 km but that is riding normally not riding hard. Yes, it burns a little bit of oil but only when I do long stents like 2 to 3000 km. The next two episodes, I think will be worth watching. I try to push the Himalayan to its limits.

  • @freewayproject

I just sat on 100 - 110 for the last 10hours on mine, so yes it can cruise on 100km/h, that probably it's comfortable spot. Remember though it's a smaller engine so if you 're caring a lot go gear and going up a step hill it will drop off that speed. I did a review of the bike recently if you want to check that out, it might answer some questions

G’day Joe. Stoked to see a new adventure has begun. How do you find the Merlin jacket? Is it an all season jacket or best for warmer or cooler weather? Does the liner keep all the wind out of the mesh panels? I’m considering a few different jackets from Merlin. Thanks.

  • @freewayproject

    @freewayproject

    Жыл бұрын

It great, kind of does everything decently, but there are better jackets to keep all the rain out, better jacket to keep you cool etc..... but the fact I can ride it in summer and it is cooler than any other jacket I have had, then also use it in winter (I normally have a few layers on underneath all depends on the temp). yes it does help keep wind out with the lining in. I haven't try jackets at a higher price point, but at this price I am happy with it.
