Imagine that call she got (something like this) Nightwish: "Would you like to go world tour with us?" Floor: "I'm little bit busy now can talk tomorrow?" Nightwish "Ew... We kind of need you to Be in USA soon" Floor: "When?" Nightwish: "Could you Please learn Setlist in 48 hours? Our next show begings then...."

When they (media) asked Tuomas how he feels about having Floor as their new singer he said: "Floor is home." That says it all. She had also been in 2 other bands before Nightwish. After Forever and Re-Vamp. Nightwish knew her from festivals. They called Floor (on her sister's wedding day) if she wanted to fly to the USA and learn their setlist in 2 days so she could perform with them cause Annette fell ill during their world tour. I think the choice was easy when Annette left for good.

@@sniperbob1992 in the documentary "Please Learn The Setlist in 48hrs" they mention there was a flu going around the band. Anette came down with it to the the point they had to get a cover singer and had 2 girls from camelot fill in as the venue was already open and fans were waiting. Tuomas and Troy went out and told the fans they would either have to cancel the show or they could get a stand in. The fans were fine with stand ins and they went on with the show the best they could. I think Anette leaving was mutual but i do think her being hospitalized was part of the reason she left offically during that tour. Tuomas called Floor soon after and asked her if she could learn the setlist in 48hrs and go to Seattle, WA.

As for your "Poet and the pendulum" and "greatest show on earth" disclaimer....yes do indeed get to know the band first, especially with poet, as it''s, lyrically, a VERY deep and personal song for the band, so for that one especially, familiarize yourself with the lyrics and the story behind them, and perhaps even some of thier Tarja stuff(see previous suggestion) as the lyrics relate to thier separation from Tarja, and you enjoy seeing the "chemistry" among nightwish.

Wanna hear Floor (just a little) in another setting? "The Source" is the 9th studio album from Ayreon, a progressive metal/rock opera project by Dutch musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen, released on April 28, 2017. "The Day The World Breaks Down" is a song that features all 11 (well known) main guest singers [James LaBrie (Dream Theater), Tommy Karevik (Kamelot, Seventh Wonder), Tommy Rogers (Between the Buried and Me) , Simone Simons (Epica), Nils K. Rue (Pagan's Mind), Tobias Sammet (Edguy, Avantasia), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian), Mike Mills (ToeHider), Russell Allen (Symphony X), Michael Eriksen (Circus Maximus), Floor Jansen (Nightwish)] and is taken from that album. Arjen himself is telling (in subtitles) who the singers are and which instrument are used and by what standards. Btw. The clip is 13 min. Long and I think you won’t regret it !! The thing I love about nightwish with Floor is that they play and exude absolute joy. No matter how dark the music can get, and it really can, there is an element of joy in how they play together and that you know that they wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Its unique. I was a touring musician for years and NEVER seen a band as into what they are doing, and genuinely wanting to share that vibe with the while crowd.

TankTheTech Good choice. TGSOE is one of the big three along with ”Ghost Love Score” and ”The Poet and the Pendelum”. You need to know background on the last one aswell. For TGSOE you should always pick the Tampere version. There is one with lyrics. It’s their most expensive performance to date. The song is about evolution. From the Big Bang until the end of mankind. It is beautifully narrated by Richard Dawkins (one of Tuomas heroes). The song shares it’s title with a book by Dawkins. Tuomas has studied biology and science. His other heroes are Charles Darwin, Carl Sagan and Eugene Shoemaker. The entire album ”Endless Forms Most Beautiful” is a concept album about evolution, with TGSOE his most advanced composition yet. Their new album ”Human. :|: Nature.” is like a sequel to EFMB and is a concept album about humans and our planet. Both albums are very cinematic and has elements of celtic folk music (Hey Troy!). But you should begin with the songs from Wacken.

@@TankTheTech Yessir good man on holding off, TGSOE and Poet & the Pendulum are like the peak culmination / core heart of the band and therefore of us, The Army, as well. Much research and experiencing their other stuff is required first xD Also fair warning, back to the whole "rockin" bit. While both these masterpieces absolutely do have very heavy melt-your-face-off sections...if you miss the lyrics you miss the experience, if you miss the background research you miss the experience, if you don't go into them like you're watching a movie instead of a "song," you miss the experience. I'm really enjoying eavesdropping on your Nightwish journey! Your comments about the band's chemistry. the incredible musicianship, and the technical excellence of all aspects of the performance are spot on (I particularly like your expert insights on things like how the sound is engineered for each instrument's tonal quality). Nightwish members (all of them) have reached a point where they no longer have to consciously think about how to play their instruments (where and how to place their fingers, etc.) - for each of them the instrument is an extension of their body and THAT'S when truly great music happens and when the real joy and fun on stage begins. This joy and energy just explodes off the stage with Nightwish and the audience reflects it right back to them - and then Nightwish amplifies it and gives it back to the audience - and that cycle just repeats over and over again. Man, I really want to go to one of their concerts.

The entire Wacken show from that year is fantastic, one of those "i wish i was there" moments. Floor wasn't even officially the new singer of Nightwish at this time, she only joined as a replacement for Annette during the rest of the tour about 6 months before this. I say officially, but the fact that they decided to film it probably hints at it was decided, just not made public. Since you seams to like Nightwish quite a lot, you might want to check out the documentary "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours", it tells the story of the time around Anettes dismissal and Floor joining (even if it's a little weird in the editing since Anette refused to be in the documentary). And yes, the title is quite litteraly what Tuomas (i think it was him) told Floor when she was rushed in to her first show with Nightwish.
