If I remember correctly, Marco actually wrote the melody for this song. The story is, in a nutshell, that Tuomas heard Marco playing it backstage or something at some point and liked it, and when he asked about it Marco said it was just something he had been writing but that wouldn't really work for his band Tarot, and Tuomas was like "We could do it with Nightwish if you want", so Marco finished writing the music, and Tuomas wrote the lyrics, and the rest is history.
Marco fandom should be continued with "While your lips are still red - Live @ Wembley" It showcases his vocal range well.
There is no shame in having emotions or shedding a tear to good music. You are not alone ! <3
If you want to see some more Marko singing, check out Nightwish's cover of Pink Floyd's High Hopes. Marko absolutely kills it on vocals & is easily the best Pink Floyd cover to date from anyone.
i believe marco will do fine without nightwish, question is how will nightwish do without him. true talent
Tank Tip: Always have tissue's ready when reacting.
Regarding your Dad's story.... Age 66 here. I had stopped listening to music entirely for over 30 years because we were being presented with nothing but junk on the airwaves, in my humble opinion. Until I discovered Nightwish in 2008. Since then, same story as your father's! I feel like a teenager again! //// On a lighter note, there are two obligatory jokes (obligatory in that I have to tell them every time!) that go with this song...one for the official vid and one for Tampere. 1. (I guess it's a Chuck Norris type of joke) "Nightwish doesn't sit around the campfire. The campfire sits around Nightwish!" and 2. "If you try really hard you might one day be cool enough to have a long Viking braided beard. And if you try even harder you might one day be cool enough to have that beard AND be bass player for the greatest metal band in the world. But no matter how hard you try you will NEVER be cool enough to have that beard, be that bass player, AND have Floor Jansen as your BACKUP singer!"
I wouldn't trust anyone who doesn't get emotional by Nightwish songs. They'd have be an alien robot or sociopath. Neither would I want to spend with.
Shout out to Jukka for playing a log
Anette has the fate of being stuck between 2 goddesses, so you don't always hear reactors do her stuff, which is a shame, cause she's got a nice voice. It's just not a deep dark opera, which, they were wanting to move away from that, and that was a lot of the drama. Many fans really liked her, but a lot didn't. There was her getting sick, just a whole bunch of stuff. Anyways, check her out on Scaretale sometime soon. It's a really good halloween song; Meadows of Heaven ( lot like this vibe, but with a nice surprise at the end.) or her independent project The Dark Element I subbed :)
"Is this a Marco solo song?"
No one hates Marko. Thank you Marko for all these years.
I understand how you feel Tank.. I'm going on 54 years old, been stuck in American classic rock, heavy metal, alternative music, and we have had MANY wonderful artists to bring out emotions such as, Alice and Chains, Rush, A perfect circle, ect..... but NONE have effected me as much, on a regular basis, as the songs of Nightwish..
Real men aren't insecure about their emotions. Nightwish makes me fucking tear up all the time, and I'm 35. Nothing makes me feel the way music does, and if you're anything like me I know exactly what you feel and why. That 'makes me feel home' comment is not lost on me brother. Keep on keepin on!
I'm a year older than your dad. Although I've been a Nightwish fan since about 2002, I'm one of those who fell away when Tarja left, so I didn't hear Poet until about a year ago, when I watched Floor sing it at Wembley. I was watching in the living room on my laptop with headphones in. I confess here that I had to stop and leave the room to compose myself. I literally bawled like a baby that first time and had difficulty breathing for several listens afterwards. It still makes me tear up, even now.
"Folk metal is calling me home"!
Two years later and I'm here commenting. One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Oh, and go give your old man a hug while you still can.
I bonded with my dad over nightwish on a road trip. He was driving, we listened to phantom of the operah and he got goosebumps everywhere and almost had to stop the car. The rest of the trip we analyzed all the harmonies in my favourite songs of them. I often think back to these hours with him.
Thank You again Tank! Story behind the song! (I just translated this to English)
Most hard Nightwish fans were really toxic with Anette at that time, which is kinda sad because both albums are masterpieces, specially "Imaginaerum". I think she has a voice that fit perfectly for the more folk-ish sound Tuomas was aiming towards. It's less operatic and more jazzy, and even if Floor is unparalleled on range, power and control, Anette's departure from the band was for me a heartfelt loss.
