There's a really cool musical easter egg here: the instrumental lead in to the guitar solo is actually the Dies Irae, a chant written by monks around the 13th century for Requiems (funeral masses). Those first 4 notes show up freaking everywhere as can be seen in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/X2dhxLiLibXUg7A.html But unlike most other references these guys play several measures instead of just the first one.

Lyrics: Feuerschwanz - Memento Mori I saw the ferryman He was so terrifying and beautiful In his barge have sailed those who passed away They were not poor and they were not rich And their eyes so pale They had nothing of use in the realm of the dead And that's why we live here (That's why we live here) That's why we live now (That's why we live now) Memento Mori, until death grinds the knives Yes, that's why we live here (That's why we live here) That's why we live now (That's why we live now) Memento Mori, because you take nothing with you to the grave Except your coffin Memеnto Mori I felt the breath of the plague Touched the cold earth But in passing away, life has seduced me anew I have loved and lost But I rose again With my naked fist raised against the sky I have sworn And that's why we live here (That's why we live here) That's why we live now (That's why we live now) Memento Mori, until death grinds the knives Yes, that's why we live here (That's why we live here) That's why we live now (That's why we live now) Memento Mori, because you take nothing with you to the grave Except your coffin That's why we live here That's why we live now Memento Mori, until death grinds the knives Yes, that's why we live here (That's why we live here) That's why we live now (That's why we live now) Memento Mori, because you take nothing with you to the grave Except your coffin Memento Mori, until death grinds the knives Yes, that's why we live here (That's why we live here) That's why we live now (That's why we live now) Memento Mori, because you take nothing with you to the grave Except your coffin

This song pretty much shows how the band is evolving. They still have those "just fun" songs (like Untod im Drachenboot) but they also had some more "mature" songs on the last album as well. And they are not bad. Musically they still are great fun songs, but the lyrics have more meaning behind it - which is a great combination in my opinion. And gladly (for me at least) they stay away from certain topics (like politics). I don`t mind to think about songs, but in general I wanna have fun and not be berated or instructed what I should or should not think by a music band. And also: this is just a great song. I am SO looking forward to the album when it finally comes out. I love the band so far and what I've seen from the album, thats a definite buy for me. From what I've read, Memento mori also is or was used together with "carpe diem" at times - basically meaning "Use the day/your live, because you are away of the fact that you will die some day"

Well while Untod im Drachenboot is more comedy, the lyrics of this one were much darker and makes you think more. So well, it hits more the mood of their "Hier kommt Alex" cover in my opinion. But very catchy hook line again, this album will stuck in our heads for a while, for sure.

I second the sentiment. We all come here because of Tank & along the way discover alot of great bands we would not have heard of anywhere else. Even bands that don't fit my taste I find an appreciation for just from seeing Tank's enthusiasm for them...and if he happens to interview them, then they somehow transform into the best band on earth at that moment from the perspective of me as the viewer. Now that is an incredible talent that Tank has to be able to do that.

Knew that sword looked familiar, and since it didn't have something recognizable from Game of Thrones like the wolf head pommel, my guess would have been Anduril as well. Not a big surprise at all for them to have the replica in this video, with there literally being a song based on King Theoden's speech on that very same album (which absolutely slaps, as I know you know 🤘) Damn, that shot you paused on while talking about Hans and his guitar looks super epic. And the base drum head has the cover of Feuerschwanz's previous album "Das Elfte Gebot" on it, so I guess it was just a drum head they had on stock 🤷‍♂ Honestly, I've been listening to "Rohirrim" and "Ultima Nocte" in my car on the way to work almost every morning recently, and it feels like I'm on my way to war 😂

I love Feuerschwanz and I really love all the new music videos. I've pre-ordered the album, so I'm interested to see who is going to do the "mai ya hee" part of the numa numa song ha ha. As a drummer, I'm interested to see how Rollo grows in this band because I've been listening to Megaherz for over 20 years. Since I started listening to German medieval rock I use the work "dudelsack" instead of bagpipes. It sounds so much better! heh.

The history of that particular bagpipe, I think, is that it was common in central Europe in the Middle ages. It was found on churchpaintings in Germany and other countries and reproduced in the 7os, in Germany called dudelsack. The bagpipe origins from the Middle east about 4000 B.C. I am not a musicion nor historian, just a bit nerdy. Great reaction as always and I love that you say what you really think.

I feel like this was very much in the style of a very famous German punk rock band (started as punk, became punk rock, now 40 years later it's very much pop punk (but I still love them)). They are called "Die Toten Hosen" And you could check them out for context. Maybe even just offline

Indeed. That was was also my impression. This song really has some "Toen Hosen" vibe to it (which certainly isn't bad).

The violin really stands out to me in this song. It sort of floats on top of everything else and adds a 'steel' quality to it. I don't know how else to describe. It makes the music sound metallic. Not metal as in the genre, but metallic as in the property of iron/steel. That quality to the music (at least to me) immediately makes the song sound 'medieval', and I'm certain that quality would be entirely lost if the violin was not there. Add the violin to the song, and my brain totally thinks this song fits in the context of the middle ages.

I know what you mean when you say it's only ok . You can't find everything straight away and unfortunately many don't understand that. Please stick to your opinion and say it as it is and don't change it. Your real opinion is worth a lot more. Thanks for your work.

It's definitly a pretty laid back track from them. more somber and philosophical than other songs. the song has a pretty big focus on the lyrics so if you don't understand German that well, it'll definitly lower the score. but I like it, feels like a continuation of "das elfte Gebot".

Love the reaction and i feel the same way about the song. Maybe because it's not a fun song. However mentioning the bass-sound, you really should check out Subway to Sally. Feuerschwanz are produced by Simon Michael who is the Subway to Sally drummer and who also played all the drums on the album, since it was recorded before their new drummer Rolf joined the band. Let's make it even easier for you: Subway to Sally played live together with friends last year and you should FINALLY check out their video "SUBWAY TO SALLY - Veitstanz (2014 Version) (Live) ft. Saltatio Mortis, Schandmaul, Feuerschwanz uvm." It's live and it features members of Saltatio Mortis, Feuerschwanz, Schandmaul, Patty Gurdy and MajorVoice. And there is a crunchy bass. And they are on Napalm Records now.

No need to explain not LOVING a song on the first reaction; hell, I'm actually surprised you LIKE so many songs on the first listen. It usually takes me a good 4-5 listens before I know if I like a song, unless it's something really special (funny enough, Memento Mori was one of them for me). Not that I have any desire to, but that's the main reason I could never do reaction videos.

Even if this is way too late to really matter, but 'Memento Mori' is one of the two main focus of literature pieces from the time of Barock, it is the opposite of Carpe diem. While Carpe Diem is meant to tell the reader to live their lifes to the fullest and to enjoy each and every day, Memento Mori is the reminder of death and is meant to tell the reader to not waste your limited time on earth.
