Road Trip
Road Trip #804 - US-61 South - Louisiana Mile 86-71 - Baton Rouge
We drive US-61 through the city of Baton Rouge, along Scenic Highway, then on Airline Highway, concurrent with US-190 for several miles. We see an example of one of two Four-Level Stack Interchanges on US-61 in Louisiana, along with several cloverleaf junctions.

Lovely scenes, music, and commentary. Thanks!
I took the time to watch all of the Highway 61 videos, I'm all caught up, just waiting for the rest of the Louisiana part
I remember when La. 37 used to continue down Greenwell Springs Road, then south on North Foster until it terminated at Government Street/La. 73.
Thanks for sharing, Jason.
Only 71 more miles to go yay until the end
12:40 I been here at this part of the Baton Rouge area. I followed Interstate 12 going east before. Here, I stayed in a motel.

At 19:18, ALL STAR Toyota in Baton Rouge, “All Star Family!”
At 22:58, All Star Hyundai, at the corner of Airline & Coursey, “All Star Family!”
Good evening
19:22 that poor Toyota dealer lot, so sad to see them all near empty :(
Nice Orange Car 13:45
Scenic Highway seems to have been named in the same way an island largely covered in ice was named Greenland.
At 19:31, I see Royal Mitsubishi and Royal Nissan
Aint nothing scenix about scenic highway
As late as the 1970s, the Rand McNally Road Atlas showed 61 around Baton Rouge as I-410, even though it wasn't a freeway and 410 had long been cancelled. Perhaps the I-110 stack and the two cloverleafs are legacies of the 410 project. Note that the control city on 110 north is Natchez.

Rand McNally was slow to update all of the cancelled expressway projects in southeast Louisiana. There was a Dixie Freeway that was once put on paper that would have been a southern loop around New Orleans that would have included what is now I-310 and I-510, with a bridge at Chalmette. It never made it much past someone’s imagination, but it was on atlases into the 70s as “planned” although the idea of it was long dead.

@@504RoadTrips That New Orleans loop (also called the Metropolitan Beltway) would have been I-410, while I-310 was to have been the Riverfront Expressway that would have passed the French Quarter. According to the Times-Picayune 175th Anniversary book, money from the Riverfront Expressway was to be used for the beltway after Riverfront was cancelled.

@@gregsells8549 that I-410 would have conflicted with the non-existent Baton Rouge I-410 though. I’m not even sure if the Interstate system existed yet when they were talking about the Dixie Freeway. I believe that dated back to around 1950.

@@gregsells8549 I-310 would indicate a spur. Was the riverfront expressway supposed to terminate at US 90 Business (tie in with the GNO Bridge)? I suppose it would have originated somewhere around I-10 and Elysian Fields.

@@504RoadTrips I don't know anything about the full route of the Riverfront Expressway. The Baton Rouge 410 had been cancelled when the New Orleans 410 was proposed. Isn't Business 90 the unsigned I-910 and future I-49? Aside from the T-P, I got info on highways from Wikipedia.
I spent the 60s living off of scenic highway. In those days it was a blue collar area of Baton Rouge. My dad worked as a store meat cutter at the national grocery store. Where the multi level interchange is now was once my playground as a very young boy. Of course now that whole area is a thug city now and unsafe.
I been to Baton Rouge LA once
Airline Highway seems to be a facility that taught us all the hard way why bypasses worth the banner need to be freeways. I wonder how often you managed 50 mph on it between the lights.

In that area, probably never hit 50 once.

Where is the city(downtown)?

US-61 completely bypasses the city to the east. The downtown area is right on the river. City Drive #017 - Baton Rouge, Louisiana kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZWt7r6eqZ7qqmrg.html
Scenic Highway doesn’t seem very scenic.
