Road Trip to Trollstigen, Geiranger, Åndalsnes Norway, 4k

The mountain serpentine Trollstigen consists of 11 sharp turns, and the incline of the road is as much as 9 percent. The road is surrounded by majestic sheer peaks from which mighty waterfalls fall. We can also confidently add that the descent along this serpentine is a real adventure, especially when coupled with a caravan!!!
But, how wonderful it is to stand on the observation deck at sunset, listen to the roar of waterfalls and watch how small cars drive up and down ... this is magic, delight and love at first sight!
And despite the thrill of the Trollstigen serpentine, it attracts our thoughts like a magnet and we hope to meet him in the new season!
We planned this trip in early June along popular tourist destinations and roads.
Through peaks still snowy even in June and frozen lakes in Grotli, we turned onto the tourist road Fv63, which was recently dug out after hibernation under the snow, which is very clearly visible from the snowdrifts along the road.
And we drove towards the city of Geiranger and the most famous fjord in the world - the Geirangerfjord. These are wonderful places where tall and sheer cliffs meet the sea, where there is another steep serpentine at the end of which we stopped to rest on the Ørnesvingen observation deck, which offers a wonderful view of the famous Seven Sisters waterfall.
We can talk endlessly about the Geiranger fjord! Singing the color of water, depth, majesty... But it's still better to see it, which we offer you in our video!
Then, through the Eidsdal-Linge ferry crossing, we went to spend the night near The Trolls Road and managed to get there, just at sunset, it was unforgettable because we were all alone there and this is a rarity in such popular places - we were lucky!
In the morning after a walk along the observation decks of Trollstigen, we admired the views from above and mustered up the courage to go down!
And this is a real adventure!
By the way, we have a full video of our journey along this serpentine on our channel:
• Trollstigen Serpentine...
Our path lay in the city of Åndalsnes, on the longest cable car in Norway, Romsdalsgondolen, opened in 2021 (just a couple of days before our arrival), which lifts Nesaksla mountain, where there are many picturesque hiking trails of varying difficulty and one of them leads to the popular the observation deck of Rampestreken, where we were already in early spring climbing on foot through the melted snow, because at that time Romsdalsgondolen was still under construction.
You can watch this video here:
• Hike to Rampestreken i...
From the tip of Rampestreken, the views of the Romsdalsfjorden are simply amazing, and the slatted floor gives ... Cheerfulness :)
Further, our path lay to a steep and very high mountain range - the Troll Wall (Trollveggen) where we spent the night, and then went for a walk along the stormy river Rauma in the Romsdalen valley.
And most importantly, we managed to visit all this beauty in two and a half days! So even if you do not have much time in Norway, do not despair, but rather ask us and we will suggest the best routes and share our experience!
About Us:
We are traveling across Norway with camper Hymer Eriba Troll 530 Rockabilly. Most of our trips are relatively short and start from Fredrikstad in Norway. For those who are limited in time, you might discover what you could see during a two-day or three-day trip in Southern Norway.
You are welcome to leave your questions in a comment to the video and we will try to answer our best!

Thank you! But we are pleased that you paid attention to "yieha"! People probably got used and were not that much surprised so kept their "yieha" for next time! We prefer to stay at home during heavy rains... this is the greatest benefit of living in Norway, that we can delay our trip to next weekend if the weather is good for flying the drone and shooting.

Are there gas stations on thw way? How do we know the time of ferry's and whether they take cars? And do we book them in advance?

  • @CrazyTroll

Thank you for your positive feedback. As to your questions: - Yes, the distance is for one full day of driving, but it will depend on your plans to visit other locations. - Of course, plenty of gas stations. I believe any map you use has gas station's locations. - There are two ferries: Lavik-Oppedal and Stranda-Liabygda ferries. Search and you will get timetables. The first is 24/7 every 20-30 min, and the second has no departure from 23 to 06/07. Both take cars. - No

Well, the answer is straightforward - it is winter now. When do you plan to hit the road? Trollstigen is closed until about mid-May May and the road between Geiranger and Road 15 is closed until mid-late May. I suggest taking a look at these two videos, you will see how roads look in JUNE! You will find a clear answer as to why roads are closed in winter... Hello! You are very attentive! 👍👍👍 In fact, I would say this incline is on the edge for our lightweight caravan. For most drives who use the lower gear, don't increase speed before each turn and take short breaks for photos near the waterfalls Trollstigen is just a part of the road trip. So did we and easily avoided overheating. Much more challenging was the short part of the road to the Folgefonna glacier, where we had to go up and down by road with a 20% incline.
