I dont know if he is playing on tube amp but I have similarly small tube amp and it sounds clean unless gain on full. I wanted to express that such small tube combos which are clean sounding produces the best sound for me it does not get better than that, this simple tube driven clean sound ! More pedals, effects you add the worse it is. Only needed is some reverb and thats it. I never get bored of that sound. But when I add distortion, overdrive and fuzz pedals this overdriven sound it actually limits the sound and frequency expression so much and such distorted sounds.. I never seems to be satisfied I always feel need to tweak some frequencies, gain level, volume level etc all the time I am never satisfied for a long time, but clean tube driven sound is so rich in frequency, expression and warm and full I never feel need to tweak the sounds constantly and become bored with it. Clean tube sound with electric that uses alnico pickups just gives endless expressive sound openness and dont have any need to change the sounds, simple and most complex at the same time. The point is more distorted the sound more sound is actually weak and ruined. Yes clean sound if done properly is actually much more powerful and satisfactory than any distorted sound. JUst like we say of my head or mind feel so disturbed, or I have distorted perception or fuzzy head when we dont feel good but when we feel clear in mind we never feel bad its always good feel. Invention of distortion actually ruined the sound. Stay clean and clear.
