That Pitbull rear wheel chock thing looks really handy, i had a hell of a time getting my rear wheel back on by myself when i replaced my chain

So, for those wondering. My kit, with the Driven rear sprocket nuts, weighed 186 grams (.41 lbs) LESS than stock components. At 12,000 rpm.... I'm sure that's a big deal. 👍 And I can probably take another link out in a month or two when it breaks in.

Sir: just want to say your videos are Awesome. ! if anyone sees theses and can't do the work themselves.. they shouldn't be workin on a Motorcycle. ! you Explain everything so we'll, great tone in your voice.. and point out specific bullet points, for things to check. Well done. ! I just wish you were working on a ZX14R SE. LOL I want those chain adjusters for my cycle but can't get them. dang it all. ! they don't make them for my machine. !??

I used the same front sprocket theory for my driven 520 kit on my 2006 Gsxr 1000. Put both sprockets on a socket and the teeth meshed perfectly so I put the sprocket exactly like that onto the counter shaft with the shoulder facing in for that case so both front sprockets had the same distance from the engine. When I got everything on, when I went to adjust the chain, the rear aduster block ticks were like 3 marks separate aiming the rear wheel way to the left. I read the forums and motomummy swears that the front sprocket shouldn't be the same distance as the original (should sit closer to the engine) because the rear is thinner and the front needs to compensate by being closer to the engine as well. I switched the front sprocket around so the white lettering and shoulder was facing out and then the rear wheel alignment seemed much more accurate. Any opinion on this? I only ask because what seemed to correct my problem goes against what you say here in the video. I'm trying to gather my facts before I hit the road.

PBR is a tough tool. Cheaper breaker and riveter kits will require grinding or filing the pin down before breaking or risk breaking the threads. Nice guide.

I have a 2014 Yamaha R1 that I bought used a couple of months ago. The place I purchased it from kept their bikes outside so I finally got around to ordering a RK gold chain with black steel sprocket and -1 tooth in the front. Im in Atlanta and went to Mountain Motorsports in Conyers. The guy that worked there said dont do aluminum for the street so I took his advice. I have a question though. Should I go ahead and remove the chain gaurd when I get the new kit installed? Some ppl say yes some say no I have one day to decide lol

Brian, what brand do you recommend the most? I have tried a few different brands, but sometimes quality changes over the years with certain manufacturers. I know you sell all the major brands and I value your opinion. Going to be purchasing a set soon. thanks

I know he said if you want use a proper torque specs but I’d say anyone who is your average biker DIY kinda guy should absolutely be using a torque wrench and look up your bikes service manual to find proper torque specs ! I’ve found it crucial while doing work on my own bike to follow the service manual torque values and also whether or not to add thread locker or not some bolts require it some don’t and both decision are for a reason ! I’ve had a hell of a time stripping out small bolts I applied threadlocker to and also the opposite losing parts in the freeway for not applying threadlocker ! Follow your service manual it’ll save you money and time !

For sure if you do not feel comfortable or have the necessary experience you should buy a service manual and use a torque wrench. - Van

How come there are two sensors on the shift rod for the quickshifter ? I don't think I've seen that before.

being that the rivet tool has such a small handle would it be wise to use an adjustable wrench to give you more leverage?

was just on site and i see you are selling the brocks alien head for my bike for 985 and just tried to call to see how long will that sell last? I have a 2001 gsxr 1000 and will be a few weeks till i can buy it

I’ve read so many people torquing to spec and end up stripping or breaking the bolts/nuts.

When pressing the plate onto the pins i always measure a link that is already riveted in place using a vernier gauge. That way i can check the plate im pressing every now and then to make sure im not over pressing it.

Nice job you can also use a set of calipers to put on the plates as long as they’re the same thickness and so you’ll know you have the right press I should say on the O-rings. That’s a sweet bike you got there. What did you call those chain adjusters that’s new to me? Those are bad ass! That’s always been a pain in the ass to make sure you got the rear axle exactly right and then they never make the dang marks very accurate anyway and it’s always a pain in the ass to look at it. That’s a lot more precise way to do it. Those things are just handy-dandy. Thanks for the video.

Big fan of this Channel. I have a 2015 FJ-09. Went down one tooth (16-15) front sprocket, stock 110 link chain still worked. Went up 5 in the rear (45-50) and stock chain is too short now. I have a new 120 link chain I need to cut. My question is; is there a dead nuts algorithm/formula to figure how many links I need to match my new 15/50 setup that was 16/45? And where is the best place on the swing arm to put it? Shorter, middle or longer wheel base?

You can use chain length to set your wheelbase. Wheel base will affect handling of the bike. Shorter will transfer weight to the back easier (wheelie) and steer a little faster. Longer will keep the bike a little more balanced under acceleration and keep the bike a little more stable. When in doubt just put it in the middle. - Van

How freely should the rear wheel spin? If i spinn my wheel by hand it will almost turn 360. never reflect about that before but just put new sprockets and chain on it, just worry about if it is wrong. front wheel will spinn a lot easier

There is a lot more drag on the rear wheel than there is on the front. In between each link there are o rings that generate friction and resistance so it is normal for the rear wheel to not spin as freely as the front. Make sure your chain is properly aligned, slack is adjusted and the chain is lubricated. Doing this will minimize the drag created by the chain. - Brian Van

I'm still fighting to get the counter spocket off my 2019 zx10r they must have used lock tight or hulk to tighten it down from the factory 🤷‍♂️

great job explaining everything! i would just add one more step, when adjusting chain slack i start by rotating wheel and find the tightest spot in the chain and adjust slack from there so when it gets to the tightest spot it's not to tight. might be overkill it's just something that's made sense? thank's for vids

In a perfect world the chain slack should be the same through a full rotation. If it varies while rotating there is an issue with the chain or one of the sprockets. - Van

i guess every bike i own or owned or worked on in my nearly 60 years has a issue with the chain or sprocket, i have never seen one that did not have a clear variance in slack?

Awesome video! Hey why did you leave the smaller piece in the back of the riveting tool on there and never used it? I think it’s for pushing pins out.

You need to place that block in the position for the job you are doing. In this case it supports the rivet link while you are riveting it in place. - Van

Hey Brian i have an fz 8. Standard sprocket ratio is 16 / 46. Id like to improve gas mileage so looking to add a tooth to the drive sprocket and drop one tooth on the rear. How can you calculate whether this will affect the amount of links you need in a new chain to fit the new ratio

I personally rarely count the links when I set the wheelbase on the bike. Depending on where you rear axle is now in the adjustment range you may be able to make this change without changing the chain. If you rear axle is towards the front of the adjustment range now you will most likely need a new chain. When installing a new chain you want to get the wheel base somewhere in the middle of the range on most bikes. The FX8 comes with a 122 link chain from the factory. If you plan to replace the chain you will need to order one that is longer than the 122 so you are able to set the wheelbase up correctly during the install. The most common length is 120 links. From there every brand seems to manage the longer length in different increments. Some have 130 where others jump right to 150. - Van

I would recommend going with the RK MAX-X Chain in gold with the same sprockets in this kit. Hey Brian. I can't get my counter sprocket nut to break loose. Have my breaker bar, and have my pry bar in the rear wheel. But I still cannot get it to break loose. Do you have any suggestions for a stubborn counter sprocket nut? I put almost my whole body weight on it and no go.

Question.... Without checking myself anf just really being lazy... I'll ask you. I got the 520 conversion kot from vortex and om -1 +2.... I watched you just install this and made me think about when I put my front sproket on that i cany remember if I did my front sprocket on correct.... I heard you say the letters go (INWARD) made me look at mine and I can read the numbers and what not on my front sprocket. The factory sprocket is the exact same on both sides. I did not match yhe gears prior to install either.... The only gopd new is that i have been to the track woth it yet so just wonder if you know about the vortex sprockets and whoch way they are to be installed?? Also. On my link.... While mushrooming the rivets I took my digital caliper and ended up running the front side of the link on litterally .003 different from the rear rivet. In your opinion, shoupd I replace the rivet and get them EXACT same or whats your thoughts on both my concerns??? Thanks in advance for your help

That is a very minor difference in the rivet, you should be fine with that as long as they are both expanded enough. As for the front sprocket the letters are not intended to dictate sprocket installation. You need to install the front sprocket so the spacing from the end of the counter shaft on the new sprocket is the same as the OEM one that you removed. Look at it link an imaginary line from the end of the counter shaft to the surface of the cush drive the sprocket rests on. This line has to be straight for the drive train to function properly. - Van

I bought a driven kit from you guys and I’m handing a little issue with my front sprocket on my 2006 cbr 600rr. The bike had a 525 chain and it and I went with the 520. The 525 sprocket is wider than the 520 and the 520 slides back and forth on the driveshaft with the nut and washer back on. Any info would be appreciated

My OEM 2016 R6 sprocket teeth ride directly center of sprocket, has two rubber bushings inboard and outboard. The new one from this kit doesn't line up either way like stock. Closest it gets is label in like you did but like 3mm off from flush. I am assuming go for the label in? Used calipers and yea stock measures 27.66 from crank, and logo in on new was 26.33 versus logo out 23ish. Figure I'd update this for anyone else. Newer Kits are different set up on rear sprocket too for anyone reading.

When you remove the OEM sprocket lay it on the bench with the side that the nut was on facing up. Now measure the distance from the bench to the inside of the groove closest to the bench. Now take the replacement sprocket and use this method to determine which side will give you the same spacing. It is very important the spacing from the motor to the start of the front sprocket is the same as it was with the OEM sprocket. - Van

Sportbike Track Gear Wouldnt that be offset with the rear sprocket? Going from 525 to 520 i measured from mating inner surface of the rear sprocket to the centre line of rear sprocket width and its smaller seeing as its narrower (525-520), matching the front 525 front sprocket to a 520 front sprocket and making them even would put the rear sprocket out of alignment. Also, in your other video where you installed the vortex kit, you laid the oem front front on the table to match the vortex front sprocket but the oem front sprocket has a rubber dampener on it which is higher than the actual mating surface on the spline. Just wanted your thoughts as i just bought a kit and wasnt sure which way it actually goes.

Just ordered this kit and some other go fast stuff for my ZX10R. Damn, are those lightech chain tensioners that easy to adjust or big ass dude makes these look that easy? I'll probably be needing a set of those and that chain tool....

The Lightech Chain adjusters are pretty bad ass for sure. I have run them on the last 2 bikes I have owned and feel they are worth the money and then some. The Motion Pro PBR chain tool is the best one I have used, have had the same one for the last few years, zero issues. - Van

So when removing the master link you don’t have to grind the pins down ? I’ve seen several others grind/tell me I need to grind the pins down before pushing them out and with this tool do you have to do that or no ?

The chain will come in 120 links and you will need to trim it to the length that works best for you and the sprocket combo you are running. This will allow you to set the wheel base where you prefer it as well. - Van

The cup around the axle nut, is for what reason? I assume it is to protect the axle nut in case you go down. Forgive me for my ignorance but I have been out the motorcycle loop for almost 8 years. I’m back now and love your channel. Keep them videos coming.

This one is pretty much for looks to be honest. In a racing application a cup like this will be used to help make the tire change faster and easier. This would be used in endurance racing like the Daytona 200. - Van

A hammock strap thats wrapped to the swingarm. its my method to keep the rear in place.

Really depends on what you want. One down in the front and 2 up in the rear is pretty aggressive IMO. I would do one or the other myself. - Van

10:43 Safety tip when tightening your sprocket you should always tighten with a crisscross pattern otherwise it will be attached uneven

In the video I show that exact process. When you are initially running the nuts down to where they just start to touch the sprocket you can do that in any pattern you like. The criss cross pattern should be used when you apply final torque. - Van

Do you need to install a speed healer on the 2015 R1? My mechanic wants to order one before installing the quick acceleration kit

No there is no need to install one on the 2015 R1. This model uses the wheel speed sensors (ABS and rider aids use them as well) so there is no change to the speedo when you change the gearing. If you install different sized tires this will affect the speedo. - Van

Did that Snap on ratchet belong to your grandfather? My Grandfather had a set of Plumb Sockets and my Father still has them. I suffer with mostly Craftsmen but they had the Patent on the lock on button system for a long time.

I see a big Truck parked at my Neighbors house. I thought it was a Beer Truck turns out she sells Tools. I need to stop and meet her. Only lives a 1/2 mile from me. I know her Gender because I asked another neighbor who just sold 3 lots. He is a retired builder .. I said I suppose there will be three houses there soon. He said No he sold them to the Gal next door who has a couple of cows.. They are making it into a hay field

This chain kit came with the chain pre cut to proper length for this bike and sprockets. I do not remember how many links it had, just know I did not have to remove any links on it. The Driven/RK and Vortex Chain Kits typically come with the chain ready to go. Thanks for watching! - Van

@sportbike track gear is there a set up for a 2001 r1 that will gain acceleration and top end speed current stock set up is 16/43 with a 114 chain link and 530 pitch

It is a one or the other thing. If you gear it for faster acceleration you will lose some top end. Gearing it for more top end you will lose a little acceleration. - Van

I'm changing my drivetrain on my 450 sumo. Going up 2 teeth on the rear. 112 links on now. Do I need to add any links for that upgrade? Thanks in advance!

Why did you go from Aluminium to a steel sprocket STG??

That was what was included in the kit we were showcasing. End of the day the 520 steel sprockets are a nice option as they will last longer than aluminum and are lighter than the OEM steel sprockets to save a little weight. - Van

If you want to go faster on the Track would you not use a "non O-Ring" chain as all those little rubber o-rings create friction?

@@sportbiketrackgear ja ja ja .. can see you are fanatical about keeping your R-1 clean. I have never ridden on a track. One of your Employees told me about an upcoming track day at Gratten raceway. I have looked at off the shelf Leather suits, but I am so short and stocky that none of them fit plus I am working on loosing 20 more pounds. I had a washboard stomach for years but now. I plan to visit your store in person to try the suits on. I have a Yamaha FZ-07 Replaced the Original Brigstone Battle axe rear tire at 8,500 miles. It was down to the steel cords. The Michellene Road Pilot IV is much hard in the middle does not stop as well and spins in the wet more than the Brimstone did. My Original chain and sprockets are still in great shape @ 9,500 miles my black rear wheel is covered in chain grease however. I had the chain off the bike once when I changed the tire. I soaked it in mineral spirts. As I teen ager I soaked chains in diesel fuel them oiled them with #30 engine oil from an oil can. Bel-Ray chain oil has molly in it and seems to hold on longer or and give you some dry lube. I wanted to purchase a Pit Bull wheel wedge. Can't order online and forgot to ask the guy who helped me place an order if you had one in stock. I ordered the Pro Motion chain tool still not sure the difference between the two models you sell one for $94 and one for $97.00

If you were to use driven aluminum sprocket nuts on a steel sprocket, the manual says 44ftlbs.. But driven is only 29ftlbs.. How Does that work?

The Driven Sprocket Nuts are aluminum, the manual is assuming you are using the OEM nuts. Very important to use the torque spec Driven has on the nuts. - Van

Well that depends on where and how you ride it. If you are mostly on the street and want long life go with a steel rear. For the gearing do you like the stock gearing or would you like a little better drive out of the corner? If you want that extra acceleration with the long life then I would go with -1 tooth in the front and + 2 teeth in the rear. I know you ALWAYS say to check the chain after that first ride or session at the track, and my chain gained about 1/4 of a inch of slack with all bolts still tight. Is that really normal? I tried googling it, but not getting a straight forward answer

It is not uncommon for the chain to stretch right out of the gate. Adjust it and make sure you do not over tighten the chain. If there is not enough slack it is very hard on the chain, sprockets and trans. - Van

I have changed a lot of countershaft sprockets and never applied any grease to the splines. - Van

Driven and Vortex both make quality products IMO. Look at both and choose the one that appeals most to you and buy that one. Neither will disappoint. - Van

I know you broke the chain at the master but didn’t you shove that enlarged pin through the inner link that the master goes through making that inner link not usable?? Or am I missing something??

When you break the chain to set the length it does not damage the chain. You are forcing the head of the rivet against the outer plate which gets discarded. - Van

So I just ordered a chain and sprocket kit it says there are 120 links but I need 118 links 45 rear 17 front was it cut down to size before it was sent to me?

Also when I ordered it it said 98-14 r1 but when it was sent to me it changed to 09-14 r1 the bolts seem like they line up but why would it change to 09 are sprockets/chains interchangeable between 98-14 models?

Any chain you purchase will need to be cut to fit your bike and the gearing you are running. 120 links is the most common length for a sportbike chain. - Van

The Yamaha R1 uses the same front and rear sprockets from 1998-2014. - Van

You will need a new rivet style master link each time you need to break the chain on your sportbike as they are only able to be used one time. Once they have been riveted on they can not be reused. - Van

Can you really tell a difference on the direction of the front sprocket? I couldn't tell which way to install it.

You need to lay the OEM sprocket on a flat surface with the side that was facing the engine down. Now take the aftermarket sprocket and find the side of the sprocket that will have the same size gap between the table and the inside of the sprocket. Install which ever side lines up facing the engine. - Van

which would be a better kit, a 520 or a 525 for a 2018 BMW s1000rr. Cheers

525 will last longer for the street and 520 is a nice option for the track considering the reduced weight. If longevity is your desire for sure the 525 is the way to go. - Van

Chain will stretch with use which is why you need to maintain the drive train on the bike. - Van

faster acceleration means less top end , great kit tho, n great vids just remember cornering difference

Most of us never get the bike topped off in 6th gear so the loss of top end is not an issue. - Van

Always grind off the rivet flush before using the chain link breaker, if you want it to last that is. Secondly, you only need to take one pin out..

If you want to grind it down you can certainly do that. Whether it makes a difference or not is debatable. Over the years I have installed a ton of chains on more bikes than I can remember and have not done this. No issues at all. - Van
