Rivolta: Inside the Mind of Canada’s Most Notorious Hacker

Ғылым және технология

When Michael ‘MafiaBoy’ Calce was just 15 years old, he took down the websites of some of the largest companies in the world at the height of the e-commerce boom, causing an estimated $1.7 billion in loss. Hear his story, in MafiaBoy’s own words, and learn why today, it’s not just governments that are a prime target, but businesses as well. Produced by HP Canada and directed by Academy Award nominated director Hubert Davis, ‘Rivolta’ takes us inside the mind of Canada’s most notorious hacker, giving us an unprecedented glimpse into a world where stealing a company’s information is as simple as accessing its printers.

This was a really enlightening story. As an IT guy, I've always been overwhelmed by the fact that I knew my knowledge of IT security was only a spit in the ocean. The common person has absolutely no idea how intelligent modern hackers are. Cheers to all the hats out there.

As a 30 yo dev who started young, choose white hat if you're going into hacking. Good is really rewarding in many ways especially with the power of the internet. The first time you see an open source project get a lot of downloads or your code get pushed to production and executed on thousands or millions of machines is orders of magnitude greater than sitting alone and getting someone elses credentials.

Reading documentation goes a long way; if there is something you don't understand, and even back then... everything you need to know was in some written form. Not anybodies fault you don't feel like reading.

In my opinion we live in a very screwed up world. Michael didn’t kill anyone. The police need to look in the mirror and be ashamed at themselves. The internet shouldn’t be on their radar. There are a lot more important things for the police to worry about than something like this. Instead of sending him to prison, they should’ve recruited him in order to help stop more severe crimes from happening.
