Scott River was a friend of mine I was at the funeral and viewing I just went and visited Arlyn and paid my respects to River He was as true as they come always caring more for someone else then he did himself He got me in the movie dogfight with him. Those Big Oaks are Live Oaks. His ashes were put under the one he and many of us played around sometimes going to see him while he was in town I would go he would be under the tree reading He found his peace there

I grew up here, and saw River play at the Hard Back Café a lot (a friend of mine owned the place and we would watch him rehearse and set up his guitars); one of my high school friends played violin in the band. His entire family was ALWAYS at the shows including Summer, Rain, and Leaf (Joaquin, who was always stoned). One night I was walking to my car and found him alone, sitting on some steps, crying silently. I asked him if he was ok, and he said "yeah", and I just left him in peace (or so I thought...) He was quiet, polite, and very, very intense.

Unbelievable that it's been 30 years since he died. I think that was a profound statement made about River , that he cared more about the environment and other people then himself. That is so sad to me because he basically put poison in his body and robbed every one of such a beautiful talented human being. He had a sadness about himself. Of course my favorite movie is Stand By Me. RIP RIVER

My 1st 'love'..I still cry over this loss. I remember the moment, place, and what I was doing when I heard he was gone. Thank you so much for this. -Forever young. So hard to think of him as 49.. I often wonder what he'd think of what's happened to the world.

I was born in 95, two years after River's passing. At 25 I'm discovering this jewel of a human being: talented actor and a wonderful person. Dogfight is my favourite as of now.

My first teen crush. River was a beautiful person. It is such a shame he passed so young. In 1997 (around then) my girl friends and I took a trip up to the Viper room with the Cotton Mouth Kings. Part nightmare, part adventure. I was 19 and went in with the band. Dare not order anything. I ended up sneaking out the side and wondered around in the front. I bawled my eyes out. RIP River!

I'm a 80s kid. I was so in love with River. He is the reason I'm a vegetarian & animal advocate. He was here for a purpose & that purpose touched me. Forever. That is a special soul when you can do that in so few years. 💜

Scott, thank you for making this video. My sister kept River's pictures all over our bedroom. His face was literally the first thing I saw in the morning and the last thing at night. I wasn't a fan, but he died so young, and you made this video with sensitivity. Brian seems like a really nice Christian man with a beautiful southern accent.

Just had another thought while showering...one that I've had MANY times before...one can only imagine how different Interview With A Vampire could have and would have been if we didnt loose River so soon. Remeber he was originally supposed to play Daniel Molloy, but the role was given to Christian Slater (another fav) after his passing. One of the many what could have been.

Indigo is named after Liberty Phoenix baby that she lost when he was a little over a year old. Supposedly they said it was because of allergies in the flooring that couldn't make him breath good. Which lead her to start the "Indigo" company for go green homes. I feel bad for her losing her son so young but then her brother also. That family went through a lot of crap.

The River Phoenix building was originally my family doctor’s office throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s. I did get to see his band several times at the Hardback and other locations around town.

Hey Scott, I just wanted to say thank you for respecting River. Thank you for not trespassing on his family’s property when you easily could have. I’ve loved River ever since I was a little girl and you doing this means a lot to me. I’m always afraid that people are going to forget about him but with people like you doing these things, he’ll live on for a very long time. It’s crazy because his brother Joaquin Phoenix is one of my fan actors in fact ... really good actor too but I’ve always loved River Phoenix!! He had a lot of siblings Rain Phoenix I think has a unique beauty...they seem to be doing pretty good but I feel Joaquin Phoenix has a deep connection with his lost brother

It was in that time that the kids were having issues with sexual abuse and I was always so worried about if that was what caused him to go down that path. He was such a good actor! I drive by the Viper Room everytime i go to LA, which is ALOT...but I have NEVER stopped or gone in. It's too hard. I always wondered if you ever did a V.R. video, now I have my answer.
