There are and were plenty of sources before social media. SM encourages disinformation and quick fix news, further encouraging sensationalism, and minimising context so much it’s easily misconstrued, and then repeated. It is evident it has dumbed down society to the point the younger generations struggle to be able to debate properly. It’s very cut and dry politics. For instance there are more flat Earth groups now than there have been since we discovered the Earth was spherical despite more information available at the fingertips. It’s given a platform to the ill educated to gather and spread their ideas. When social media is based off garnering attention for clicks, it’s a race to the bottom in that it’ll take more and more ridiculous things to grab that attention. Quick minimal comments which invite quick aggressive debate, more self absorbed people stuck in their own echo chambers of ideas, encouraging vanity to the extreme. And on and on and on. Anyone born into it being around knows no different, to near all before it knows it’s not been good overall for society because they experienced a difference to be able to compare.

I personally had to work a lot to get into university, I took like five extra classes plus I went to a English tutor twice every week (this is my second language). Learning stuff somehow became a hobby along the way currently I am learning Hungarian sing language and after that I am going for the English version. the division of Australia wouldn't be so evident if we knew our own countries history... we don't really have a strong position to laugh at other countries about not knowing theirs...

Slavery is an economic benefit only to those who own the slaves as unfree labor harms economies, not helps them. You're also *vastly* overestimating the importance of cotton to US economy. In 1860 if cotton suddenly vanished from the US economy it would have contracted 5%. That's it. That was cotton's peak contribution to the US economy too.

@BiggieTrismegistus I think you've over verbalised the comment you refer to. I did not even come close to concluding they asserted cotton was a key component of the economy.

We teach feelings now not facts here in America now. God help us.
