Google created Alphabet as a holding company and Google X as a innovation lab to leverage emerging technologies and build on it. Wherever you can't you simply buy that company

Hi
Why can't larger corporations ensure a healthier future ecosystem by either acquiring and assimilating a new disruptor into their portfolio, or by scanning over time for the most disruptive entrants to an industry and being prepared to launch a new subsidiary of their own to combat the structural loss of market share. If discontinuous innovation is about low price and viral access why do many large incumbents say it is unattractive to do anything about the disruptors? Is it only for the reason that both parties have different business models, so it is not a "wise investment" to go there? But the entrepreneurs responsible for innovative entry to industries establish long-term economic growth through their disruptions, thereby eating into the leading incumbent's margins. Isn't disruptive innovation a strategic threat market leading firms can absorb or hedge against using various strategies?
