That was me and my friend's reaction to the Trendmasters toyline "Operation Bug" last night! I can't believe the sickos behind that were the ones who made the WuvLuv (which I had as a child.) But the job worked well, and now we think it's funny as fuck (and we want the toys, of course.)

My film teacher in highschool used the HBO bumper as an example of how incredible practical effects really are. To a bunch of kids who grew up on Pixar, DreamWorks, and such, it really made a lot of us think. 10 years later I still think of that class when I see it.

Fun fact: That "As someone who tried a box of [TMNT cookies] once, and I'm still seeing a doctor about it" MIGHT be a reference to the Nostalgia Critic review of the first two movies way back in '07. Right before the clips begin, he grabs a box of TMNT cookies and spits a few of them out. He did say ONCE after all

There was! It was a group of bumpers for Cartoon Network called "CN City," where we saw cartoonish antics and jokes in a conjoined city of all the CN cartoon worlds, like Ed, Edd n Eddy, Fosters, Megas XLR, PPG, Ben 10, Teen Titans, KND, and so on. They were fun, short, and let you know you were going to have a fun time.

You know what's the saddest thing with that turtles cookie commercial and comparable commercials? They all got more detailed and smoother animation than the first cartoon show from the 80s in ANY episode, even if the budgets were probably much smaller than what the staff at Fred Wolf and the voice actors got for their work.

Actually, I was pretty damn good at Skip-It. Several kids (mostly girls) in my school were. The hardest thing for us was finding and claiming a space to use it so we didn't take out other kids while we were playing with it. I doubt I could do it again today, but then I was the kind of kid who was pretty good at jump rope tricks, too. Might just have been a rural thing where we had enough disposable income for Skip-Its (and even then I recall mine being a gift for some occasion. Easter, I think), but not enough for electronics, so we were already pretty good at the old-timey athletic/show-off games like jumping rope and those hand clapping games. Also, we not only had crash test dummies toys, but to make it even sicker, there was a baby. I had that one. It came strapped into a baby seat and its eyes popped out when you pressed the "crash" button.

I was pretty good with Skip-It too. Most of my friends weren't bad with it either. Maybe it is that awkward middle class income, my family wasn't loaded, but were amazing with properly utilizing credit and budgeting when needed, so we had a good variety of "no batteries required" toys that often included jump ropes, pogosticks (I was pretty good with this too), bikes, sleds, skateboreds etc. We enjoyed practicing with our toys and competing against each other with them.

If anything the Party did was controversial then it would be them failing at their job. 1984 was about a world where all information contrary to the party's official statements was not only banned, but history retroactively changed to match whatever the party said. All while a, possibly factious (it is left ambiguous) war is going on to keep people patriotic and in line.

+Don Giovanni because it probably plays an ad there on the site, but said ad was omitted for the youtube version.

Imagine binge watching something from HBO with that long ass intro everytime taking forever to see another never ending intro like Game of Thrones. Pure hell.

This is definitely one of my favorite Commercials reviews ever! So much nostalgia and whacky memories! I love that Mentos segment! Truly clever and I also appreciate the fact that you worked so hard on the real life skit to go with it! Some of your best work for sure! Always fun to revisit these events!

2:23 Okay, story time. When I was in 2nd grade, our school didn't have much in the way of playground equipment. We had a sort of haphazard collection of lacrosse sticks, half-deflated balls, jump ropes, and defunct pogo sticks kept in a splintery old closet. But, we were a bunch of hyperactive nerds, so of course we found something to do with what we had. One girl, trying to find a use for a bent hula hoop, had the idea to put it around her ankle and start spinning, and thus discovered the core concept of Skip-It, only with an added layer of difficulty given the size and shape of the hoop. Within days, half the kids in the grade were doing this every recess. People would fight over the hoops. Tricks were developed. A full-on contest was held that lasted over an hour straight. It was *insane* how into this kids got. So yes. I knew many people who were good at Skip-It.

Oh gawd...I'm a Canadian and I remember all those Concerned Children Advertisers messages when I was a kid. I never thought the whole 'don't put it in your mouth' message was referring to anything sexual. I thought those talking blue furballs were talking about pennies or discarded batteries.
