The Vinci faction is awesome. Just look at this mech pilot - he stood his ground even in the face of overwhelming odds, and gave his life to deny the enemy access to his city. He died holding the fucking line - and went out with a bang too!

So we have steampunk robots and flying ships, dragons, genies, aztec civilization that worships high-tech aliens... One of the most bizarre settings ever created.

Those were dark walkers, I think. Glass golems would've kicked clockwork men ass, lol. I think that Vinci protagonist was using a Doge walker, but it's open topped... I'm not sure, though.

I later noticed that they were glass golems by the sounds they made, but they were really small for what they looked like in game.

At the end of the game it's implied that the Alin, now unified and with the Dark Alin defeated, are craving for expansion to Cuotl and Vinci territory. This would probably be one of the battles we weren't able to see in the possible future installments of the series

Yeah one thing I didn't like about the campaign was that it consisted almost entirely of mirror matches where the enemy was the same race as you.

The concept of this game is really good, too bad people rarely talk about this game

The funniest thing about my childhood is that there are three times that I got the wrong games because I misremembered. Little did I know, they were all sister games to those games. I got rise of legends trying to get rise of nations. Heroes of Might and Magic V when I wanted IV. And Icewind Dale from trying to get Baldurs Gate 2. Companies know how to add to the games they made by making more.

Such an underrated game. Absolutely loved the setting, the characters, the gameplay. Wish we could get a whole remaster of such a unique game.

this game and intro was the GOAT

for those who do not know who is the subject of the intro He is the great inventor, the person in charge of the Vinci technology in the end dies in the cinematic but in the game (in the game files) it was discovered that Zeke has the brain of this character that appears in the introduction

@@landrylongacre6391 there was actually 5 dupposed to be in the game. 4th was a mongol inspired faction, the 5th was nordic. very interesting if you think about it.

I think the best part of this cinematic is that the game really does feel like this when you're playing

this... is one of my favorite games that has been forgotten.. i played it a lot when i was a kid :S

Before I played the campaign, i thought the three falling ship parts that crashed were the foundations of the Vinci, Alin and Quoatl.

They kind of are. The Vinci based their machines off of it, the alin Sawu went mad because of it, and the quotl were taken over by the false gods who found it.

If i'm not mistaken, Mad Doc software was the Developer. They were the Devs for EE2 Also. Microsoft never touched the game, unless you are referring to a remake that i can't seem to find when i search the two together. What exactly are you referring to? (Just curious, not sarcastic. I want to know)

Actually, Activision Bought Sierra Entretainment, and after they did, they no longer made any new sequels, actually, after that, EE3 never got a single update. So, if we reffer to EE franchise, Activision killed it. About Risef of legends, I don't know. I just pray that there may be a hope, like the devs that remake AoE2 HD, and AoM Extended, they maybe try and get Rise of legends back, with a better compatile system for multiplayer, like how they did with Rise of Nations.

best video game intro ever

I remember seeing this scene when I was so young. Spent most my conscious life thinking about it. Now? I have found it.

this game was way to nostalgic i got it from the library before they got rid of it and play it and forgot it was late. its too much fun and and there wont be a game like it. sure there are simular games but the troops you can control,the cool buildings and maps, story, play as the villain, not focusing on magic, multiplayer and so much more. too bad online is off and no steam version

perhaps thats why they aren't releasing it again. Its been so long now I think people would expect more to be added a remake/remaster if you will rather than just a rerelease as it still works in Windows 10. Who knows maybe bloody Windows 11 will break it.

Basic tldr.: The ship at the start was what had the Cuolt "Gods" who were a race of Highly Advanced Stone/Metal/Unknow Material Automatons, they are in a way the inbetwen betwen Magic and Tech. Something happend on their travel and they crashlanded on Earth in the South-East region of heavy jungles... this lead to them being worship by the natives since they were able to do alot of feats that would be considered magic, but also lead to their tech being somewhat diminish since much was loss during the crash. Its for this reason we see a few fragments of their tech durng the Vinci and Alin campaigns.

Nostalgia!!! 😻😻

The greatest thing about this game is that it is inspired by our stuff. Mesoamerican mythology, leonardo da vinci and his inventions, and arab mythology. Beautiful. If it had an expansion, it has to bring norse, native american, and japanese mythology. Or literature.

Or sci fi, a, cuotl are ancient astronauts theory, rise of legends you can have anything and make sense, They could use atompunk, a scientific faction whose artillery is an antimatter cannon, they can use urban legends to make a magical faction with modern aesthetics... or they can give us the kahan and the skald

I loved the game, and I agree it never got the support or polish it deserved, would've been nice to have some of the story mode patched to flow smoother. I liked Giacomo and the gang, but occasionally it was weird to hear them repeat phrases or info we already heard/knew.

Why did they die. Big Huge should have survived forever. We should have been able to play game after amazing game made by them. But no, instead they shut down, they get ripped apart, and we are left with old youtube videos and "HD" Re-releases.

Might come as a surprise to some of you guys, but the soldier at the end is not just any soldier, he is the one and only Giacomo. Thisi is how this legend went down in the end Just thinking about it gives me the chills :')

If is added to steam here are the changes I want higher framerate units animations (units like clockwork have the animations at less than 30 fps) higher resolution windowed moded (yes the game doesnt have windowed moe) bug fixes (In mission 3 there is a bug where the cargo ship is the heavy variant which is not compatibile with the mission making the mission impossibile)

Unfortunately, this is only valid for the original Rise of Nations game, but the Extended Edition doesn't include Rise of Legends, only Thrones and Patriots.

I've just finished the campaigns, I love this game

God I wish this game got enough traction for a sequel or something...

this always triggered my sweet magic infused steampunk hearts love for 'citadels of survivals desperate holding action ....as its population is split between said holding action ,and equally desperate efforts to fuel and make tactical weapons ready to turn the tides of war while its fortifications still keeps the industries and mana blood reserves to counter the despotic or worse forces threatening to dominate the planet functional.. and in their possesion.

and as it blacks out after 2:28 the fourth wall audiance dont get to share the corupted genies forces starting to circomvent the ravine ,only to have swarms of steampunk drones start swarm out of the citys hangar pads and factory access shafts to the omnious sound of not just multiple new massive siege weight constructs being lifted up to the ramparts ,but steam cyborg legions activating fresh from the philactery connected assembly lines... and several anti captial ship grade worthy kinetic batteries rising out of some assembly line access shafts that hidden in plain sight been repurposed to provide stationary fire support and extreme counter measure options for the citadel city in the event of further direct attacks later on ^^

I miss this type of games i_i Ensemble Studios, and this guys are the best

Most creative fantasy world. Vinci are my favorite faction becouse of their wierd steampunk industrial era technology mix and the European astetic of their peaoples. Their soldiers are preety much steampunk conquistadors and thats preety cool, but my favorite unit is the clockwork man and the robotic miner becouse steam punk automatons are epic

there's a lot of Steampunk style games, but only Rise of Nation have true Steampunk design, another games is ugly design and just focus a lot fabric hot air balloon and fabric boats, no more machine, no more robot

I remember seeing concept art for what i think is the Skald. They look impressive. The reason they were left out is either lack of time and/or budget, or simply because it might be pointless. What can they do/offer that the other 3 could not? From what i've seen from the concept art, the Skald is, like the Alin, a magic themed nation.

I think that the Skald would've been a cool primal themed magical nation. After all there is a fine line of themes, between a nation all about arabian themed, purely magical nation. and a nation full of brutish, but spiritualy rich warriors. The Skald could've been like Far Cry Primal faction, but like full on spiritual shamanism. I could imagine the leader of the faction which was....I forgot his name, but he was like, riding on something. I could imagine him summoning some cool totems or summoning spiritual animals to fight for you. n the other three...well I dunno, some cool warrior type aand I dunno about the third.

@@peterwhite6415 Hmmmmm, maybe it would work like the Cuotl Barrack/transport. but, a giant city. However I can see why they were scrapped because it sounds like a big crazy idea with alot of balancing involved. Still, sounds awesome. I didn't even know about the Kahan until now!

You know what this game was absolutely calling out for? That world-conquering non-story campaign mode from Rise of Nations. It already has that Risk-esqe board in that campaign with a surprisingly extensive array of mechanics but you could only use it in the story campaign, which strikes me as a massive missed opportunity.

Technology, magic, and aliens. What a game.....

I wish I could summon the campaign heroes in the skirmish version. I love to use General Battaglion, Pulitore, Distruzio, and the Alin and Cuotl heroes.

at 0:45 it looks like that Vinci really has access to repeating rifle! but in promo cutscene the rifle looks like flint lock. can anyone tell me how does vinci weapons really works? did the flint thing has different functions than any conventional flintlocks?

I am too. I love this game and i am playing that everyday.my favorite nation is Alins,they has very nice and powerful magia.Very nice game

@caspianxii You're right, but the Cuotl were the first in Aio, they revived the engine, plus Savu was imprisoned in Mezekesh, and scorpions are not glass, are normal, and if I remember the Alin are enemies of the Dark Alin.
