I feel your story. My case I found this in a Walmart bargain bin of all places when I was a kid. I begged my mom to get it and I was only like 7 or 8 so the T rating didn't hit right with her, but when she saw it could be potentially educational and since it was deemed "strategy" she felt it was fine. Took me a little to get used to it, but after I did I played the shit out of this. Greece will always be my go to country with the education buff.

@roaldthamesen533
5 жыл бұрын
@@Zade_95 wow! Thank you for the reply! I will be waiting for your thoughts on Empire Earth. And yeah, I think Commandos games is still worth looking today. It's a different kind of RTS that needs a different kind of thinking. Instead of controlling an army on a large scale, you control this squad of uuh.. well.. Commandos with different roles throughout WWII theatre. It requires deep thinking of tactics since you can't make silly mistakes and get one of the Commandos killed (which results in a mission failure). What fascinates me is that I think it was the only RTS series where we can move the characters around and get the camera inside the building and do stuffs in the building. But in 2006, they took a different turn in the franchise and made the final Commandos game not as an RTS, but as an FPS. It still has the same formula where you can control different people with different roles in the same mission, only in FPS perspective. It's not a bad game, quite good in my eyes, but fans didn't really like the change in the direction.

@@Zade_95 Commandos isn't a RTS like Roald says, it's RTT-ie Real Time Tactics. All you do is control your squad, there's no base, no other military assets, no multiple opponents, no skirmish play etc etc. That said, I totally enjoyed the first 2-3 games in the series, so definitely worth a look if you like the idea. Be warned, it's difficult and painstaking.
Actually you can destroy cities. Just press delete and you will get an option to destroy it, just press yes and city will be raised to the ground. I did it many times when the city was badly placed and I didn't want to bother defending it all the time, especially those cities near the coast. I had a friend who loved RTS games, and I just used to see him playing those games. Then one day he got Age of Mythology with its sequel from somewhere. I was so much impressed, because there was mythology involved, so I asked him if I can borrow it once he finishes the game story. But when he gave me the game box, he instead gave me Rise of Nations CD instead, since he displaced both the CD boxes. I checked on internet and found out that the expansion also allows you to play as India. Age of Mythology would have been my technically first game, but instead Rise of Nations became my first game. One month later, he indeed gave me the correct CDs of Age of Mythology and I had fun playing that game also

Rise of Nations is such an exciting game, the only thing I think it is not so good actually is the AI. Although I always played with the highest level of difficulty the AI just limited to create a lot of heavy infantry and light cavalry (light armored cars after the industrial age). But yeah, I had a lot fun with this game, I fought hard battles against two or three nations at the same time and spent a lot of resources building many military buildings just to see my troops fighting until the last man.

@@Zade_95 I absolutely recommend it. while vastly different from Rise of Nations it is an amazing game made by the same amazing developer. I think at this point I have actually played more Rise of Legends than Nations. The only two warnings I would give are A: much like in rise of nations, watch out for the pathing ai and B: for all it's unique content, it feels like there should have been more . from what i can tell it was forced out the door before big huge games could add everything they wanted to, although I think there are modding tools.

I recently took the time to finally get my copy of RoN working with my computer and *my god* was it worth it. I need to a make a series on it someday soon... But I digress. Great video man!

Yeah dude, it's easily worth playing today, and will be for some time I imagine. It's a good time to make videos on classic RTSs I think - people are yearning for the old days haha. Thanks for watching!

I've owned this game for a while but not yet played it, but this video made me decide to give it a go, so thanks. I do so enjoy playing RTS games that are more about the grand scope of the thing, rather than reaction speed alone.

Awesome, glad I could be of help to you. Enjoy!
Man the only games I play lately is Rise of Nations, Supreme Commander and Arma 3. There is nothing out there that holds up. I love diplomacy in games and role play. Not this just rush in and play. I like a build up or a good story to follow. Playing fast paced games is fun sometimes but there is no meat there and it's over quick. Still looking for a MMO or other type like this.

Dam I forgot all about SupCom. I really loved playing that back in the day - worth a video sometime! ARMA 3 is great too
I love this game, but the only complaint is I have is that once you capture an enemy capital you have to slaughter the surviving enemy citizens instead of them becoming yours with the buildings.

Well, what a great news I have for you ! *RISE OF NATION: RISE OF LEGENDS!* you didn't search far did you, the game is quite different: instead of going through the ages, you play in a techno-fantasy universe with 3 *unique* faction "steam-punk-ish" faction *VINCI* 1001 night theme magic faction *ALIN* and Aztec-Mayan alien tech-ish *CUOTL* the game is criminally unknown...
@xBloodXGusherx

@@pierre-andrelecomte9384 I played it. Didn't really like it. I liked the whole steam punk aspect of it and the story parts but it was too "Unique". I like a game where you build guys with swords or guns and have supporting elements with them all while juggling resources, diplomacy and defense. Original Rise and Thrones gives us that. My only wish is to have it on the scale of supreme commander.
what i don't like about RoN Audio, it feels like the game engine doesn't supports playing more than 3 sounds at the same time, Expanded Edition doesn't improve it either, which makes me sad so big battles feel so quite, because all you hear is one gun sounds at a time, a warning sound, and soundtrack.

my biggest problem with RoN is that when you have researched AI you can spam your soldiers and from then on it is basically just pressing buttons 24/7 until one person wins. At least that's how it ended with a friend on a big map and since then the game felt worse because of it. Also some wonders are much better than others.

I like Rise of Nations but one of my only issues with it is in agreement with Zade. I'm more of a 4x player who dabbles in RTS and I'm used to amazing sound tracks that immerse you instead of soundtracks that are decent but just kinda there. I really really really want there to be a Rise of Nations 2 someday but I really want it to have culture specific music at the very least. Like playing a European nation should sound different from playing a Middle Eastern nation or an Asian nation for instance. The sound track should help with immersion imo.
Tried this for the first time this week...I am amazed :D
Saw this on Steam and was wondering if I should buy it. Haven’t played an RTS in a long time, so this seems like a good place to get back into it.
