RIP Hunter 350 // Final Ride Vlog?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today started with high hopes! Unfortunately, fate scheduled an appointment with an angry cager who ended my day and prematurely terminated the Hunter's road career. I have briefly recounted the incident below to give more closure. The entire accident video may be released later, depending on legal issues.

The Hunter was a total loss. Both rider and machine suffered a +25 MPH impact on the rear left while traveling at ~55 MPH. The Hunter and I both high-sided at full speed without warning, and I was thrown to the pavement to begin my painful slide on the concrete highway. I rolled 2-3 times before I could control my slide. On the final roll, I flattened out onto my stomach to prevent further injuries.
My helmet's visor and outer shell took an extended beating, but they managed to stay intact. My riding jacket took a brutal grinding on Houston's concrete highway. The jackets' shoulders and elbows disintegrated, but they survived long enough to protect my skin from being erased on the speeding concrete. My riding gloves also took a beating but survived almost entirely intact.
Both of my shoulders, hips, and left leg suffered deep tissue trauma and joint hyper-extensions from the initial impact and the subsequent tumble on the pavement. My left wrist suffered a deep abrasion when the left jacket arm retracted during the initial impact onto the pavement. Both knees suffered abrasions from the slide, but my left knee fared worse with deeper lacerations and impact trauma. My lower back and neck suffered the most significant injuries from the rapid twisting from the tumble on the pavement.
However, I was able to w̶a̶l̶k̶ limp away from the accident thanks to my safety equipment! My crash helmet, riding jacket, gloves, and boots protected me from suffering more devastating injuries. I have always advocated for the ATGATT (All The Gear All The Time), or MOTGATT (Most of The Gear All The Time) riding philosophies. This incident provided HARSH (and thankful) proof that it works!
This was my first significant motorcycle accident in 38+ years and 2M+ miles of riding on the streets. I've had numerous minor incidents over the decades, but never an injury that made me pause (or stop?) riding. Unfortunately, I won't be riding again for a while until I heal from my injuries and feel strong enough to ride again without complications.
I hope to join you again soon to share more motorcycle rides and motocamping adventures. Cheers, and remember to RIDE SAFE! 🙏😉👍

Once again, very happy you're as ok as you can be. The loss of the bike that we know you loved sucks. However if you were lost in that, it would've been devastating to anyone who watches you or met you... let alone your family. So glad you were recording, so that lunatic could get caught and charged. Rest up, heal up, and get back on two wheels at your own pace. Thank goodness for your gear. This is proof of why all gear all the time is so important. So glad you were kept safe by that gear. Until you can grace our screens again Quasi... sending love your way.

Hoping you have a speedy recovery. I'm definitely going to have to remember this video the next time someone says gear doesn't do anything in a motorcycle accident. Looking at those post crash gear shots, I don't even want to imagine how bad it would have been without it.

There's luck and always the possibility of a little help from above. I'm just really glad my favorite motorcycle content creator didn't buy the farm because of some Yahoo speeding in their big cage.

Thanks for the support, Bill! Houston traffic is getting faster and more dangerous every day. I'm not sure when (or if) I'll be back on two wheels again... need to wait for the back and body to heal first. When I get back to "normal", I'll probably skip moto-commuting for a while... certainly through the bowels of Houston. I'll just stick to back roads and road trips on more sane roadways. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Seeing what happened to your safety equipment gave me chills. I'm very happy to know you survived this awful crash, Quasi. I hope it won't be your last ride vlog, but what's most important is that you have a total and complete healing from your injuries. That may take some time and lots of rest so please take care, don't rush things, and be kind to yourself during this process. As for the perp who did not, I hope the court will not be kind to him. He deserves to pay a stiff penalty for his immature road rage.

@@QuasiMotardI just noticed something at the end of the video. Why weren't your clothes cut up? Usually, when the fire department are not usually at a 100% of the time, they cut your clothes to pieces to make sure you don't have any internal or other injuries when you are in a road accident like this on a bicycle or motorcycle, they open your clothes up with scissors and then they give you issue. You clothes but you are at the hospital in your normal attire very strange

Thank God for the gear. I still am aiming for a new hunter 350 this spring. It would be a perfect commuter bike for my needs. I will be putting my pads back in my jacket. I always wear gloves, boots and a jacket. I need to kick my gear up a notch while I can still make the decision.

YEP! I almost rode with my old Fly Racing mesh jacket because it was very warm that day. That old jacket doesn't currently have any pads in it because they got old/brittle and started crumbling, so I took them out. If I had been wearing that jacket during the crash, then I would have certainly suffered broken shoulders and arms/elbows... no doubt in my mind. The left elbow and right shoulder pads were nearly ground away during this incident, so that would have been my skin and bones instead! 😳👎 --QM

Thank you for the equipment links. I ordered some new armor based on that. I have a feeling you’ll be back out before you know it.

I can't decide whether I should frame all of the gear as wall art or give it all a Viking Funeral. 😉👍 --QM

@@QuasiMotard Take some good pictures and frame the jacket. It makes a good conversation piece for the man cave or garage. Or burn it on Quasi live. I'm kind of broke so I might be thinking about putting some kevlar armor patches on all the shredded spots. That is an equation that depends on one's time value for money. I absolutely think you've got totally got your money's worth out of that gear.

Scary ending. Prior to that I was going to comment that you proved how versatile the 350s are. So many people say they are too slow and can't do highways. Mine goes as fast as I want to on two wheels. Cruising at 80 on long cross state interstate tours would be the only thing I wish it could do, but around cities it does everything

Just discovered your channel via your Hunter purchase video. I asked about your GPS display in video. I went to your channel to subscribe and see this??? Praying for fast, full recovery, and financial wholeness plus. 80 mph car vs 55 mph small bike is not good. Subscribed.

A Relief that you are ok, it that after the crash you were able to stand up and walk away, which is a good thing. I hope you'll get a speedy recovery and many more riding adventures soon, god speed , Greetings from Malta.

I've been considering purchasing a bike and getting into riding... Then I'm reminded of the scores of thoughtless idiots out there whose cell phone is more important than possibly killing somebody and I take great pause. Glad your alive, m8!!!!

I just lost my best friend Sept 9th in a motorcycle accident, a car turned left in front of him at a crest of a hill in the late afternoon with the sun in there eyes. I've been riding for nearly 50 years and noticed since Covid, cops don't pull over speeders for fear of catching the bat flew, so people drive like crazy. I don't carry a pistol with me, because I'd have opportunities every day to shoot at idiots. On a positive note, I think when you recover take a serious look at the Triumph Speed 400.

I’m so sorry what happened to you brother. My prayers and blessings for you for a fast recovery and a clear mind and heart when you get well. Riding on the highway can be dangerous. Hope you go out when well with the Super Cub and enjoy a drive on the backroads in nature to truly heal. Prayers for your family too; they need you! Hope one day to meet you and ride the Super Cubs! God bless🙏🏼
