Thanks for the upload!! I'm a huge Rina fan and absolutely feel for her when she was going through this and sharing her story. SO SO SO HAPPY that the BPI updated their eligibility criteria and she certainly will win the Rising Star award!

Things I didn’t know: 1. She’s not British despite her very obvious accent 2. Japan doesn’t allow dual citizenship

So happy for her because you can’t be binational if you are Japanese!! Let’s Japan bright hard with her as a crossover between the Japanese and European musical scene. She looks a little bit like Dua Lipa in the interview. I hope she’ll get a huge success as well..

It's great that the UK changed the rules for her, it's a pity Japan won't allow dual citizenship putting people like Rina in this position. The UK allows dual citizenship here, but becoming British would have revoked her Japanese citizenship, I feel Japan needs to address this, why in the 21st century does Japan have an issue with this?

@@jack-g4112 Possibly true, I feel like Rina probably had issues UK side too with pointless rules, surely once her case/application for the award was reviewed it could have been dealt with without her even knowing as she's been here so long and brings in revenue for our country.

She doesn't want her ethnicity to prevent her from competing. She has lived in Britain since she was five, so she is clearly Japanese and British in terms of her upbringing and culture.

Asia is a continent, britain is a country. Asian is an ethnicity, British is a nationality. So jot that down first of all. Secondly, she has lived in britain since she was 5 years old : therefore she has resided in england for 21 years more than she has resided in japan. Her first language is English, she lives, works, was educated in and pays tax in england. The only reason she doesnt have a UK passport is because its impossible to hold dual citizenship with Japan. Thirdly, pull your head out of your arse and stop being such a bigot.
