I’m 43. Since I started driving at 16 years old I’ve been driving 45 minutes one way to the SAME comic book shop. Some of us don’t have a lot of comic shops around to be choosy. But I’d still go to the same shop even if I did drive past a couple of others to get there.

TEN YEARS! Wow! I like to think that my twenty-seven-gazillion Magic Cards were at least a part of the reason behind the Mill Geek Comics De-diversification! I still have all 800,000 Hero Clix in my storage unit I got in that exchange ;)

Great video guys! 10 years is a great accomplishment. I remember I stumbled on Tom's channel when doing research for opening a comic book store and I think it was Tom's first or second video on all the reasons why NOT to open a store and I was intrigued, lol. Now, 4 years later, I'm 3 months into my career as a comic book shop owner and I can tell you already that Russ is 100 percent correct. Thank you guys for your tips, guidance, and being an inspiration 🙏

Excellent discussion. Most of the LCS stores with 15 miles of my home (in White Plains, N.Y.) are very diversified, including may types of comic-related toys and merch - as well as comics. I was recently amazed that the local Newbury Comics store (situated in the area's most upscale mall) actually REDUCED the size of their comics display. Even so, this is only a very small part of their store's product offering. They carry music, books, Pops and all sorts of eclectic merchandise - yet their name is Newbury COMICS. It isn't really what I would consider as a traditional comic book store, but that just proves your point about diversification. They seem to be doing O.K., but they have their hands in a lot of different product areas.

2 very important questions. How much of your comic business is new release compared to back issue? Can a store survive without new releases?

If I were to open a comic store it would be a comic centric store. While I could see myself selling some small related items, I just couldn’t see myself having any real inventory or time spent on anything else. Also, I always figured the storefront would be there for buying and internet for the bulk of sales.
