Rigging a character in Moho Pro 14 from tracing to smart bones, to widgets

Фильм және анимация

I’ve capture how I rigged my sub-character Leopold. It was a lot of ad-hoc work, because I never even thought about what he’d look like from the side… (He's not a central character in the episode) This rig is still lacking body turns, hip turns, and I forgot to create an inner/back side of Leopold’s jacket, but I’m sharing it with you anyway. Learn from my mistakes…

The character voice work was done by Nasim Benelkour @luckspath, he'll be the voice of Leopold in the upcoming pilot.

Fun stuff! I found it very interesting that you only showed the contours of Leopold to place down the bones. I need to try that out when I do a vector rig. The eye target bones are also genius 😮 I found it really funny that you were also showing the parts where you were struggling with the rig. I feel less crazy now 😂 Also the Timelapse music is a jam 🎷 🎷 🎷

I started using circles for joints and binding them to sub bones to make sure they don't deform when shortening the arm. The circles help align the joint perfectly. Another thing I picked up from the Chinese Moho animator @MoeU33Hailey ( www.youtube.com/@MoeU33Hailey )

I've been on the horse all the time, just spent a whole year developing Shadywoods, finding voice actors and getting three full episodes written. All in my spare time, of which I have little.😩

Always make sure that the target bones have *no* parent bones. Make sure the target bone strenghth is set to 0. And make sure they're named correctly and that the bones that target them are setup to target the right bone (I sometimes mix that up myself).

Also target bones often don't work properly on frame 0. Need to go to frame 1 to test them.
