How to create arm and leg rigs using pin bones.

Фильм және анимация

This is a tutorial on using pin bones while rigging arms and legs that are able to move with a bit of force perspective.
This tutorial was inspired by the work of the KZread user MoeU33.
CHECK OUT HER PAGE AND SUBSCRIBE!
/ moeu33hailey
Also, Check out Production Crate here: productioncrate.grsm.io/jcqpf...
It's a great resource for special effects that you can use in MOHO as well as a big collection of audio tracks and sound effects that you can use in your projects.
Most of her earlier tutorials are not in English but she's starting to do some of them in English now but even so, check out all of her tutorials as they are great to follow along!!
This technique I created is a direct result of watching one of her arm tutorials and although I could not figure out all of the amazing things she was doing, I was able to come up with a simplified version of it that I think is going to work extremely well!
So this rig shows you how to use pin bones instead of bone rotation to crate arm and leg poses the BIGGEST PART THOUGH is that you can move them and create force perspective, meaning they can be foreshortened without having to change the artwork.
This is a big deal because it opens up the possibility to create so many more poses and will make it much easier to make my characters sit or face forward with very little work.
It will also make it easier to do body-turn poses.
Anyway, check it out and let me know what you guys think.
Sorry for being away for so long. Been a really funky couple of years but I'm trying to get back in the groove of things!
Hope you all are doing well!
I'm going to make a simple base character with this type of rig setup and place it my gumroad store soon as well.

Really interesting. I'm just coming from after effects to Moho. Been using after effects for 8 years and have alot of characters rigged. But I decided to try Moho because after effects take a lot of memory and lags a lot. And now i noticed there is more you can do with Moho interms of bones.

I am becoming to appreciate what can be done with pin bones. I just strung seven of them together, made them independent, and then added bones with dynamics to those pin bones, then I bound hair groups to the attached bones, then did the same for the other side of the head. Now my character has hanging hair that drops on the side her head is dropping and rises on the opposite side. I also limited the rotation of the higher pin bones, which keeps the hair from falling across the face, as if it had depth, but left the bottom ones unrestricted, which gives a great hair bounce and the effect of length.

@Poptoogi So I've been trying this with one of my characters and it's awesome, but there seems to be no way to lock the hands in place for cases where they e.g. lean both palms on a desk, or grab on to something. If you reparent the wrist pin bones in the timeline they seem to change angle and twist everything up in a weird way. If you simply don't barent the wrist bone to the arm rotation bone, wrists will always stay in place, but then you can't rotate the whole arm only the upper part, and lose the nice circular motion capability. Have you found a solution to that problem?

Would Moho take a suggestion from you? I noticed that there was a point where you wanted to align two different layers, but when you do, you also have to first align their grids. If there were a screen overlay that could be brought up with a button, that put concentric circles and squares, and a center target, that does not move with ANY layer. It would make things much easier, especially when changing a layer scale, changes the layer grid scale also.

That's a great idea. The MOHO community is really good at taking suggestions and it's now owned by the original creator of the program and another super passionate artist and animator so I'm sure they would take in the advice. I'll have to check and see but someone might have made a script for that as well. If I find anything out I'll post it on a video. (Gotta get back into the groove though. Been soooooo long since I've posted anything!) :)
