Rig Rundown - Johnny Hiland

Музыка

Article and photos: bit.ly/JohnnyHilandRR
High above the Nashville skyline, guitar slinger Johnny Hiland met with PG’s John Bohlinger for a pre-show Rig Rundown. Hiland showed off a diverse cache of 6-strings, two cool amps and a larger-yet practical-board that makes for a killer setup for both the studio and live gigs.
Hiland’s current No. 1 is his 1998 Music Man Axis Sport loaded with his signature Six Shooter pickups from Electric City Pickups and custom wiring harness from Martin Six String Customs.
This is Hiland’s 2010 Music Man Silhouette that also features the Six Shooter pickups and custom wiring harness. Between the middle and neck pickups sits a RunBarr by Easy Roll Guitar Methods. It acts as a pickguard in order to help your picking technique on speed picking and sweep arpeggios. Each of Hiland’s guitars are strung with Elixir Nanoweb (.009-.042) strings.

Johnny "I don't need no stinking B-Bender" Hiland. Man, what a player! And a sweet guy to boot. A lot of people think strength is about acting tough and uncaring but it takes WAY more strength to remain positive, kind and supportive to others, esp when we feel like crap or we're stressed or like Johnny, we have physical impairments. That's when we really show what we're made of.

I met Johnny one night in Nashville at Robert's Western World down on Broadway. I walked out of Jack's bbq and heard someone just totally blistering the guitar. I walked on down to Tootsie's and it was so packed in there and the band totally sucked. I walked back down to Robert's, walked in and my jaw about hit the floor. There was like 5 people in the whole bar. I watched as Johnny played the most amazing guitar licks my ears have ever heard. I waited till his set was over and went and talked to him. Nicest guy on the planet and so appreciative. Johnny is honestly one of the best guitar players on the planet and such a nice guy. He is Nashville's hidden jem! Kudos to you Johnny! He mentions Hendrix and 80's Rock and then I just imagine him stood there with his guitar next to Hendrix and Eddie VH in their prime and I die laughing but that's what is so cool about this guy he has incredible hands and the slide style playing is brilliant. A genius player with no pomp, gimmicks or bull crap. I'm now a fan.
