Riff Analysis 053 - Anomalous "Ohmnivalent" pedal point riffs
One of my favorite albums of all time, and I don't say that lightly.
Important note: the video unintentionally makes it seem like Max was the only person writing music for the band, when in fact Tim Halo co-wrote-in that quote about the legos, Max was specifically talking about him and Tim.
Nate Vennarucci also contributed to writing, and, while I'm here, Marco Pitruzzella played drums on this album.

I realized I spelled Max's last name wrong every time I brought it up in my article, rookie mistake. Sorry, Max.

Hearing my kids trying to get my attention in between my linear stream of consciousness rambling is hilarious
I love everything you've ever made, but the first 2 seconds of this video are high art.
Honey, wake up! New Metal Music Theory that I’ll barely understand about a band I’ve never heard of just dropped
Anomalous is a band I haven't thought about in forever. Definitely ahead of the curve regarding Tech Death.
Thank you so much for making this! Just wanted to say that Ohmnivalent was co-written by yours truly, especially the nasty and more dense parts. Although, to be honest I kind of forget who wrote what exact part. Moreover, a good third or so of the album was written by Nate Vennarucci. He wrote a large amount of Bicruciforms which I think is an album highlight. Shout out to Marco Pitruzella as well for playing the insane drums I programmed!
I’m so glad this is your opinion of ohmnivalent. I feel like it’s one of if not the greatest album I’ve ever heard. Been listening since it came out and still find ideas and interconnecting lines I missed.
Funny how I was listening to this song this week and thinking how insane the whole buildup with those riffs is. Great video as always!
Thanks for playing more of the interview, too. Max is one of my favorite guitarists and there’s not a lot of him to find out there.
Such a good album, and for good reason (I've had it on CD since it first came out). Awesome that you got to talk to Max about it!!!
one of the best albums ever written
your channel rocks dude, i appreciate all the exploration of technicality and doubly so when you're introducing me to something new. your retrospective analysis is great! you've actually helped me find new ways to enjoy songs I previously didn't find special/exciting.
Great analysis dude!
This album is extremely underrated, thank you for shining a light on and dissecting this masterpiece. \m/
This album should be etched on a gold record and sent into space
Infinite Jest, I see you.
anybody digging anomalous i urge you to immediately go listen to ontogeny, nate venarucci's other band. their lp hymns of ahriman is almost like an alternate dimension ohmnivalent
Sounds interesting, will check out the album. Great analysis as well, the sequencing of mini-riffs seems a little like Chimp Spanner approaches his music, although generally much more complex
You should take a look at Orgone - Lessons of Mesopotamia
get this man a chair
Guess I have another tech death album to check out. And actually was really cool to hear metal musician talking about Vangelis.
