Taiwan saved the Chinese culture by absconding with all the treasures to keep them from being destroyed by the cultural revolution.

The burning of ancient writing is honestly one of the MOST evil things you could possibly do. I cant even imagine what was lost..

My experience with so-called 'tourist destinations' is that they're an elbow to elbow jostle where it's almost impossible to walk for the crowding. You spend so much time trying to navigate the throngs that you simply don't get to enjoy the sights.

Yeah. In 2005 we brought some photos from overseas to show people in China and some of them asked us what kind of photo processing we put them through.

I went to China several times. With the right connections, you can hear genuine folk music traditions. Especially in rural Shaanxi - their folk singers and musicians sound great. Many local governments and communities have taken pains to rehabilitate and restore old architecture - even as they also tear it down for development. But you can't bring back all the art and replace the burned books. This is especially a problem in the North because fewer Northerners were able to flee to southerly Taiwan. And that means fewer Taiwanese consultants and old timers to visit northern towns to lend their traditional knowledge to undoing the Cultural Revolution.

That´s the best they could come up with? You can visit every village in Europe, ask people about the cultural heritage of their country/ region and you´ll come up with way more than "oh, we have this song"

Fake culture, fake background. Why even bother going in the middle of nowhere just to see and experience cosmetic culture?

Guys, I was in Tangjia ( Zhuhai) where I lived for 12 years and I went to the original home of the first Prime minister of China in Tangjia. Met his granddaughter who lived there and helped her write an email to various international agencies because the CCP was evicting her and harassing her. (well, my Chinese friend translated) She also showed us the murals on the walls that had been destroyed with bayonets during the cultural revolution. She broke down crying because we offered to help her and she had been threatened by Junggwan thugs. I got tons of stories, having lived and traveled in main land for all those years.
