I used to visit Hong Kong quite a lot between the early 80’s till the end of the 90’s. I was a flight crew then and Hong Kong was indeed one of my favorite stop over cities across the world. The vibrancy and pulsating culture and tradition amongst such a diverse society. I’ve also made quite a few local friends in Hong Kong during my tour of duty whenever I get a chance to stop over. The hospitality and charm of Hongkongers amazes me a great deal and has made an impeccable imprint in my life. Unfortunately ever since the umbrella movement and the kill the Bill protest in 2019, many of the friends I know and the people I’ve been acquainted to at one point in time have left the colony. Many changes have taken place in Hong Kong as new laws are being enforced from time to time to clamp down on anti-ccp movements, anti-ccp sentiments or anything at all pertaining to shedding bad light on the ccp. Though my last stop over in Hong Kong was the early part of 2000 where i transit there for two nights from Hainan island before homeward bound and needless to say a wave of nostalgia swept over me when I saw Hong Kong again. That was and will perhaps be my last memory of the awesome Hong Kong I’ve come to experience personally in my lifetime. 🙏

@@John-mu2zz Stockholm syndrome is a condition which causes hostages to develop a psychological alliance with their captors as a survival strategy during captivity. HK was kidnapped during the Opium War, and while the Colonial masters did bring much wealth to the nation, much of this opulence came from China when it was forced to trade with the Brits via HK- this is largely forgotten to this day. in truth, neither HK nor their masters were the cause of HK's rise, for really the Brits could have chosen any rock strategically positioned near China for a trading post. For this reason, even after being "freed" HK still sees itself as having more in common with the UK, despite NEVER having had any democratic freedoms while under colonial rule. Why Britain the kidnapper is seen as a better master than China, the rape victim is thanks to Western dominance of the media

There were not kidnapped. Without being kidnapped they couldn't develop Stockholm syndrome. On top of that many mainland Chinese and people from other nations immigrated to Hong Kong. BECAUSE IT'S SO AWESOME. Why would somebody voluntary go into abduction? Why would somebody want to be kidnapped? That Stockholm syndrome comparison is nonsense. Yes, you're right: lot's of things went wrong in the day. But Hong Kong is awesome today nevertheless. I lived in China and Hong Kong for a couple of years in the mid 1970s. The people in Hong Kong at that time had a great fear of being handed back to China. I met many wonderful people in Hong Kong and a few in China, although the only people I usually spoke to in China were interpreters, Chinese Teacher, taxi drivers, staff and a few others, normal citizens were too frightened to speak to me except for the children who wanted to practice their English, and they all called me Joe. There were numerous reports of Hong Kong locals being kidnapped and taken to China on boats. I had an English friend who worked for the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation who was kidnapped and thrown in a Shanghai jail for eight months during a dispute between China and Britain, after which he immigrated to New Zealand.

A buddy and I stepped out of what was called the China Fleet Club wondering what we were going to do and how we were going to do it. A man approached us and told us that for 25 US dollars each, he would drive us around the city and show us all the sights. He had a black Mercedes and as neither of us had ever been in one we said OK. We also figured that once we got out at the first stop, that would be the last we saw of the guy. Not so! He did take us all over, including up into the hills where the "rich British" lived. He finally let us out at dark in front of a steak restaurant. He was a great guy and we had one of the best meals ever, then we took the boat back out to our ship at anchor in the harbor. We never once felt unsafe.

China is Earth's workshop. The British empire that build that city is gone , the UK cant even solve its own parlament , let alone help its former colony. The US? - Trump can talk as much he want ,but he cant do anything because he knows that China has a loaded gun - 28% of US forain dept (1.12 Trilion USD). If Chaina wants , they can ruin the US econamy in 1 day - just dump all that goverment bonds to the stock market and watch how the USD becomes worthless. Who esle is left? India? - they cant even solve their major problems, let alone save someone esle. It pains me ,but HK is on her own - nobody is going to help them. In Europe -the protests are not even covered in the media (in Bulgaria - just 1 short news article and that is it), look at the EU news agensies - blackout.

@@mowtow90 US bonds held by China isn't a big deal. Both Japan and China want to keep the value of the dollar higher than the value of their own currencies, because they want to export. Drop the value of the dollar and everyone around the world will flock to US suppliers(goods and services). Then the US will be the export king and shitty plastic manufacturing will move back to the US. In the current state the US economy is growing while the Chinese economy is about to go bust as manufacturing moves out of China to other parts of the world. The US isn't reliant on other countries as much as you think. The US economy is driven by advancement in idea's mostly. The US can have those idea's manufactured any where. China can't have advancement in idea's if people are scared to talk about things openly with each other. The US can debate every aspect of every idea about everything until the best idea is then moved forward. This is the reason other countries especially those countries that do not have freedom of speech will never beat the US.

@Brownebunny , It is hard to get an education on the actual events by looking at the biased corporate media. They started mass violence back in June. Digging up bricks from sidewalks and threw them at the cops is lethal violence! Kicking cops on the ground and bit off a finger was also started In June. They smashed into the legislative building in June and caused over a billion damage. Their mass attacks on civilians had also started in June. They smashed local shops run by HKers and threatened them not to sell to mainland tourists. Some of the videos were uploaded early and KZread deleted them due to censorship. Police were very restrained. Only the anti-China propaganda in corporate “free” press distort the facts and never show you what’s on the playlist. They even x10 and x20 to the actual number of protesters. For example, Victoria Park has a size around 130,000 square feet. Somehow all the “free press” reported 1.7 million protesters... you have to stack 10-15 people on the top of each other to get that many! They also ignore the massive counter-protests. There were three of them at least numbered at 250k, 160k, and 470k. Do you even see the coverage? Did they report the protesting organizers receive fund from NED? A civilian arm of CIA. It is on NED’s own website which organizers receive money from them.

I saw a video on this recently where they said during the initial handover of Hong Kong by the Brit’s, mainland China was fine with the 50 year self rule thing because at that time (1995 or 1997 or whatever) Hong Kong represented like ⅓ or something of the entire Chinese GDP so they wanted to keep them happy but within the last 20 years, with the rapid economic progression of other Chinese cities, Hong Kong now represents only a very tiny part of the GDP like 1% or something very small so mainland China is less inclined to abide by previous agreements. It’s a shame because within the next 20 years I don’t think the unique Hong Kong culture will still be around. I think it’ll just be another communist strangled city with no freedoms and horrible human rights.

At our border Mainland has everything they got to take over Taiwan. Either by cooperation or war we have to decide. Taiwan has been going downhill since martial law has been lifted. We need to enforce our military, economy and technology to keep up with mainland China and we're not hitting our targets Becuase the current government is too focused on political correction. If people of Taiwan can't have a happy life, people will support the CCP if things look bad there. My advice is thst everyone should vote with their brains, keep CCP at an arms length and strengthen our economy through them. And build train our own defences in case of war. I don't believe there can be one country two systems, there's no way ccp would allow that. The more people cries about indepence from ROC, PRC would gladly take over by force if necessary. A good friend of mine works in a state foreign affairs office. Hardcore CCP supporter and party member. He's not oppressing people. He generally looks out for China's future. People like Winston would never know people like that, would never be friends with them and wouldn't care. They have a superiority complex when it comes to the Chinese government. But when you accuse them of that, they just call you a coward and say "I married a Chinese woman so that's proof I'm not a bigot." Sorry but that doesn't work. I've offered to sit down and explain to these guys all of their misconceptions, but they're not interested in the truth. They only want to push their ideas. I live an hour away from where Winston stays. I've offered to go confront him like he challenged us in the video when he called us trolls. Yet he refuses. Why is that?

Hanman Seems you’re trying to subtly divert the conversation from the subject of the *unconscionable* HK extradition bill (clearly driven by the CCP) to the credibility of Mr Sturzil. I’m sure there are some decent people who are also CCP party members, but that doesn’t mean the CCP is any less evil. You say you know a lot of HK people who are pro-China. I’m sure you do; I’m pro-China and pro-Chinese as well. However I’m very much anti-CCP, and recent events indicate over one million HK people are too. I’m confused about your statement about Winston... you say he’s against the Chinese government - and I think you’re right. But accusing him of bigotry against Chinese people is completely different. His response seems logical - if he were bigoted against Chinese people, why would he marry a Chinese wife, and live amongst Chinese people all these years? I’m pretty sure his problem is with the CCP, not ordinary Chinese people. Same with me, and I’m sure with many others. Your disdain of bigotry is laudable. But then I find it confusing that you would use the expression “doesn’t speak Chinese” to describe someone who doesn’t know what’s going on. Implication of course being that people who don’t speak Chinese are stupid. Gee, that’s not bigoted at all! So... back to the real subject of the video... whether you think Winston is misguided or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is that the CCP is about to implement this grossly unconscionable law in Hong Kong; civilized people everywhere should stand up, cry foul, and push back. I feel sorry for all the HK people and their families who will have their lives impacted by this unjust law. And I feel sorry for all the 五毛党who are brainwashed and have the truth kept from them.

A few years ago, i was having a conversation with a good Chinese friend. I argued that democracy in China is inevitable given the high economic success, education achievements, and overall status that China has reached. I argued that Chinese people don't have much to prove now except for a free and democratic society. He looked straight at me and said with absolute confidence: Chinese people don't want democracy.

Thank you, Winston, for supporting Hong Kong Although the bill has been postponed, the fight is not over yet. In fact, they are having a protest right now and occupied the same place as in 2014 God Bless Hong Kong

Atleast the people of hong kong are aware what is going on. In the eu they passed the european arrest warrant, without anyone knowing.
