Wow, what a builder, what a shop! If only I had the money. One thing puzzles me: Troy Trepanier and company talk about building cars to be driven, yet he uses a billet steering wheel. Imagine grabbing that thing after it has sat in the sun for a while.

Troy Trepanier Chip Foose and Derrick Samson owner and car builder in Marshall Missouri are three great builders with an eye for detail and talent building cars second to none. My cousin at Samson design even has his own interior shop on site and does all the work from start to finish in his own control. The whole family actually are mechanically inclined, three generations befor the father passed away. Rip uncle Rayfiel

Great so see a bunch of young guys who are smart create these one off custom rides. I always thought the '62 Impala should have had a louder color but now I understand why Troy chose a subtle one.

And as Mr. Zimmerman said there, cars ARE art. They are worshipped, enshrined, and displayed. People take pride in them, and showing them off. It IS art, very SUBJECTIVE art (note my earlier comment about taking the character out of the Mustang in this issue). Some of us look at those cars (like the '40) and say, 'Ugh, it's FAT looking, it looks like a slug...' but, that's subjective. Other's may appreciate the smooth curves, the rounding shapes that make up (what was) a very quick car in it's day. Yes Mr. Zimmerman, you ARE an artist; just your 'brushes' tend to be metal-fabricating tools, torches, and high-performance parts.

The damage and welding to the shock towers are simply due to weak construction from Ford. Every time you brake or hit a bump the upper control arm put tremendes stress on the shocktowers causing over time the inner fenders start cracking.

It’s always funny for me to hear young men like Jared talk about not having artistic talent when they put these rolling sculptures together. To me it’s an endearing aspect of midwest US “aw shucks” attitude but also IMHO a rather sad commentary on what is valued in our culture from an education POV. If I had one wish as far as changing my educational opportunities growing up it would be that public school districts and counselors stop viewing college as the ONLY good route for a smart kid. I LOVED wood shop in high school and would have loved metal shop if the teacher wasn’t just pushing a calendar along at the end of his career. By the time I got there my high school didn’t even offer auto shop or any other voc/tech options although if you were a good student you could sign up for running start (taking classes at CC) after your sophomore year and there were some decent programs there but full-time and a bad fit for a HS student. Not complaining as much as just wishing we could look at the voc/tech route as not JUST prep for being a mindless factory worker. For many more students than most parents might think, voc/tech classes are instrumental in helping them decide what they want to do in following a career track and working with your hands is not just for neanderthals; contrary to what most white-collar parents might think. For me, it was a big push towards college then not using my degree and eventually becoming an electrician because I didn’t want my job to be “outsource-able” unlike most computer jobs. Just my 2c, I always try to push kids to running start if it’s available; you graduate with an AA and still have a shit-ton of options since you’re only 18; besides...AP classes are a crock since you work your ass off and only get half a college credit or something after putting in more than 2 college classes-worth of effort and a BORING-as-fuck curriculum. Cheers!

Dynacorn wasn't making Mustang bodies in 2002. Besides that, original sheet metal is always better than aftermarket for fit and finish when hanging fenders and fitting body panels.
