RIDE TO THE TOP - Germany's Highest Construction Site | Full Documentary

Ғылым және технология

Precision work at an altitude of 3,000 meters. A unique construction is being built on the Zugspitze - Germany's highest Mountain. With a total distance of 4.5 kilometers, the suspension railway being built there is not only the highest, but also the longest cable car in the world. But that's not all: it drives over a single support that sets another record at 127 meters. How does the alpine climate influence working conditions? Our documentation takes a look behind the scenes of the cable car construction site and accompanies the creation of the impressive structure.

I used to ski all over the world, including in the alps, but for some reason I could handle the height then while in the chairlifts, but as I age now, longevity is inviting, and heights bother me more. The broken splice does not give me much confidence. Nor does the fact that the parking station is smashed into place with a hammer. "Masters of their craft" huh? Still, a magnificent piece of engineering.

I used to ride a car that held 100 people that went from 9500 feet to 11500 feet. The cable span was about 3000 feet and the only towers were at either end and no support in the middle. There was a second tram parallel to it that had a small car that could be removed and 20 foot containers could be attached for transport to the mine at the top. This is at a mine in Iran Jaya and I was there in 1994.
