I have a 2014 nc700x bought it new the first of 2017. I bought it to commute to work 80 miles round trip. Rode it for a few weeks and put a madstad windscreen on it, a jack stand and a rear rack. I mounted a ridgid tool box on the rack for my lunch box and my coveralls/rain suit. It cost me a little over $1.50 a day for gas. I have over 20,000 miles on it, on my second chain and just put on third back tire. I still have the second tire on front and it still looks new. It really needs a better seat, the stock one is very rough even after a short ride. This bike will cruise on 80mph+ and doesn't even strain, mine tops out at 98mph. You really have to keep a eye on the speed or you will be speeding over without knowing it. The storage space is one of the reasons I got this bike, so I had a place to put my helmet without having to take it in the plant with me. It will hold a full face xl helmet and you can store stuff in the helmet also. This bike handles great but if you are looking for something to race on get something else. It carries one person fine, my weight is 180. It will carry two but only if you don't over load it. I'm 5'9 and can flat foot it. Some folks might put on 80/20 tires or more but in my opinion its a street bike, around Mississippi if you take it off the road you fixing to get stuck.

I don't plan on trading up to the new 750 because the 700 does just fine for what I use it for. I'm going to keep it as a commuter. I have plans for a new Harley Davidson sports glide or the low rider, been dreaming of one for a long time now at 54 I can afford one. I'm waiting to see if they do the upgrade to the 114 m8 in either one in 2020. P.S, I really enjoy watching and reading what goes on here.

Thank you for and excellent review including handlebar vibration that most reviewers fail to even mention. Why do people buy huge displacement bikes with power they will never use? They want smooth and normally big cc's is the only way you can get it. I'm sold on this bike.

This is one of those bikes that I have a hard comprehending. Everything I have heard or seen about it has been overwhelmingly positive as it really is a near perfect bike... but as you said, it is not a "soul bike." Because of that my reaction has always "meh". I need to just get on one and try it out and see if my thoughts change.

Great review! I've had my 700x since January and so far I've put 17K KM on it (bought it with 83K). It's extremely reliable, always starts without a hiccup, I only take it to the shop for oil changes and periodic maintenance. It's comfortable enough for touring, either solo or 2-up, although I admit the seat could be softer and the footpegs could be a little more forward, because it feels almost sportbike-ish stock. It also has a fairly heavy throttle and I found that on long, multiple day trips it can strain your wrist a little. It's very economical, super practical, fast enough for anyone not looking to set any land speed records. It's very stable, even in bad weather, rainstorms, etc. It's the perfect companion for someone who wants a do-it-all bike that you can ride to work through traffic and take for a long tour on weekends. I'm seriously thinking this might be the bike I'd do a rtw trip on.

Have a 2014 and love this bike. a couple guys on the NC700X forum have over 100,000 miles on theirs and still going strong. the stock tires are my only complaint but SHINKO 705's solved that problem and it goes everywhere now. cruising 80 MPH is still low RPM and it will do it all day

That’s what came to my eyes and needs. A real lack of hp and quickness. I’m sure it’s a purposeful bike for the like minded people. My opinion is it’s a bit of a picnic goer, or go off road a tiny bit or commuter.

It’s really a great commuter bike, I just traded my 2017 NC700X in for a 2011 Suzuki GSX1250FA, I needed more power, i had to shift three times before 70mph, the GSX does 70 in first gear

With honda discounts you can get a showroom 2015 for 5k and under. I test rod one just hoping I would like this bike, really hoping. Engine was nice and even and quiet. Minor nit about the twist of the handlebars. However things weren't so great on my short ride. I tried to simulate a get out of trouble thing by coasting then slamming the throttle. Got nuthin. Did the same, quick dropped a gear and slammed it...nuthin. Did it again then dropped 2 gears and slammed it...absolutely nuthin!!!! Then slammed the brakes...ugh what is this? Worse than my 250 ninja. As much as I wanted I just can't do it! Getting up to speed from a stop was nice and easy but it's not diffucult to learn how each bike accelerates. Honestly this bike doesn't do a thing to fix the things I don't like about my current underpowered bike.
