    ​​@@myknittingblog He was in a charting New Romantic band in the 80s called Seona Dancing. It's a NR stylistic choice referencing Spiders From Mars era Bowie. You also have to keep in mind that he's playing David Brent when singing this song, who would be referencing musical styles from his 'prime', not understanding that it's no longer perceived to be a fashionable thing to do.

    As an American, I was doing some work in the UK, and the company put me up in Windsor - my first night there I noticed a sign outside Windsor Station pointing toward Slough - NO WAY! I thought it was a fictitious town from The Office series. That was a trip I wasn’t about to miss. Filled my belly with a couple pints and grabbed the next train out. Next morning when asked by my new English colleagues how I spent my evening, they were shocked and thought it very funny that of all places, I would choose to explore Slough. I found it to be quite pleasant. Oh Slough, how I miss thee..

HUGE ricky gervais fan, but both shows are important to me. I said I don't fully appreciate it bc I obviously don't "get" all the references... bc again- not from there 🤷‍♀️

    I love how he writes songs but pretends that Brent wrote them and they are effing amazing 😅 love it! I'm from up north and I listen to this regularly a touching beautiful clever and poignant great piece of music about the small market town of Slough England,,, Everything ricky does or touches just turns to gold, his talent has absolutely no end. Ricky Gervais is a global superstar icon for all the right reasons.
