Watch Full Interview: • Ricky Bell of New Edit...
Part 7: • Ricky Bell on Bobby Br...
Part 9: • Ricky Bell on Selling ...
--------
Ricky Bell detailed his own battles with drug addiction. He and Amy talked about their time using Ecstasy and how that transitioned into cocaine use. Ricky said that he became addicted to coke and has been battling the addiction for roughly 16 years. During that time he's been in 6 different rehabs and has been off and on with sobriety. Despite the ongoing battle, Ricky was just over two and a half years sober at the time of this interview.

I have 2 big hopes for the Bells: 1) that the media attention doesn't create a distracting high for them that creates an intoxicating, addictive fickle "reality", and 2) Now that they put the history out there that it doesn't create so much stressful attention to stay clean & "perfect" that they relapse. Maintaining victory in the public eye is a beast!

Yes it was. The home again photo shoot showed him slip two pills in his drink. The constant sniffing and his wife saying “still got that cold”. He overdosed in his bathroom after telling her they were losing their house. He went to a NA meeting telling them what addictions he had. It’s all in part 3.

Being a drug addict is a lifelong illness. However, I’m glad she took ownership in her part, and he did the same. She's been quiet for the majority of the interview, I'm glad she held herself accountable and was there to support him. Curiosity can make you do some crazy things!!! I wish that would have been portrayed in the movie. I think if it were a movie about BBD or just Ricky Bell it would have been mentioned. I wish them nothing but the best on their individual sobriety. It’s a blessing and a curse. The curse is they started together, the blessing is they can hold each other accountable. With accountability comes a reminder of what’s really important getting high for 2 seconds or making sure you are the best you, you can be to provide for your children and be present for your grandchildren’s lives.

I saw that Home Again tour, and I was one of the lucky ones that saw them early on in the tour before Ronny and Bobby got in a fight, thus ruining the tour. First off, they took two hours to come on stage, because of Bobby almost not showing up, from the rumblings I heard from the staff. Then, as great as shoe was, Bobby almost never shut up. He would sing over folks, took the longest solo set, and he dragged the show on so long that they abandoned him on stage in order to end the show. That show went till like one in the morning. It was a once in a lifetime even to see all six of them on stage, and it is still one of my favorite concerts, plus Blackstreet? Awesome.

Bob gets such a bad rap for being an ass and no show on that Home Again Tour. But for the Dallas show it was Ralph who didn't get off the bus. And guess who stood in for him and sang all of his parts? Bob. He didn't know Ralph's dance routines, which was funny, but Bob was the professional that night.

Quiet as kept, I did security for NE @ the spare of the moment, years ago, for the HOME AGAIN tour as part -time work, during my college days. Outta all the members, of the group, I knew "Boogie" Gill , for the longest. I knew "Boogie" from DC. My deceased older brother, Tony, who was an educator , in the Baltimore-DC area @ the time, introduced me to "Boogie" & his family, over a period of time. I was especially impressed w/ Boogie's ol' man' s :The Rev. Johnny Gill, Sr. theology. My MOMS knew one of Boogie's maternal or paternal aunt's in High Point, NC. I also had the honor of coaching "Nippy" Houston's niece, Blair, @ NCCU. She was one of my patron's that would study @ our university's undergraduate library. I recall a funny story from childhood , that I told them about my ol' man being critically of my behavior in high school during an incident w/ one of my teachers @ the time of my freshman year. He said to me that I was acting CRAZY AS HELL , LIKE BOBBY! My POPS , went on to caution me if I continued to misbehave in school, that him & MOMS was going to enroll me into an all male boarding school. Tony echoed their sentiments as well. They all were in stitches, including Bob, as I told them about the incident back stage. :)))

In the 80’s I was offered blond boy aka “cocaine” in a club I declined but poppers primos marijuana heroin pills just about everything was in the nightclubs back then. Thank god I wasn’t interested but I sure did see a few friends and family get hooked on them some recovered or died and some are still struggling. May god continue to bless the two of you on your continued recovery. ❤️🙏🏾

He needs to leave her. This is why he can’t stay clean. She’s apart of his downfall and basically encouraged him to do drugs. How can you really focus on your sobriety when you’re partner is a user too.

Not only does he need to leave her. New Edition needs new manager. A very good lawyer to go over there contract. Why are these guys not making money ? Ricky said they were spending way too much money on tour buses, and the crew that is just poor management. I feel sorry for the man he seems very nice. May God put people in his life that really love him and want him to succeed in life.

That’s around the time they met it would’ve been stupid to speak up on things she wasn’t around for was she around when New Edition became a group in Boston? No was she there when they got off tour with 1.87? No was she there when Bobby left the group & they eventually came out with a new album with a new member Johnny Gill? No was she there when BBD was on top? No so why would she have said anything during those topics in the interview?

Can we do some math please, bc I’ve been trying to figure this out since the movie. Ricky is 50, and she like in her mid-30s (allegedly). So if they started dating in the home again era (96-97?!?) wasn’t she a teenager and he was in his 30s? Backstage...underage...WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE REAL!

Ricky you and your wife are a beautiful couple and I wish you both alllllllllll the best and I'm sorry these judgmental KZread trolls feel the need to judge and hate on your wife because she's light skinned and pretty and bagged a handsome awesome guy. These hateful single women that are trolling her in here go home to a cold bed and hold themselves crying at night. They are hating on her because they want a good, honest, loving, open man like you. She rescued you up and took care of you when you were down and out and loved you through the hard times. Take that beautiful spirited woman with you everywhere you go and y'all stay strong together. If you happen to see this comment, I still listen to "Something In Your Eyes" a million times a week and my favorite part is the part you sing in the end "anything is possible, anything can be....." It's still the shiznit after all of these years, yeah, I'm rambling LOL... Anyways y'all stay strong and thank you BBD and New Edition for being so much of a part of my life for many many years years. I'll always have y'all on blast. You are awesome and so is your beautiful wife!
