Johnny Gill on Going Broke After Selling 8X Platinum, Ricky Bell's Drug Problems (Part 12)

Ойын-сауық

Watch Full Interview: • Johnny Gill of New Edi...
Part 11: • Johnny Gill on Bobby B...
Part 13: • Johnny Gill: LSG was O...
--------
In this clip, Johnny Gill revealed New Edition's struggles with debt, substance abuse, and mental health amid their successful music career. He explained the high costs of producing a tour, noting that though they were making money, they were spending an equal, if not greater, amount. In a previous interview, Ricky Bell opened up about his battles with drug addiction, resulting in financial ruin. He confessed to selling personal belongings, including his designer boots, just to afford his next high. Gill echoed the sentiment, explaining that he had to sell his house and other valuables due to financial strain. Gill attributed the group's financial struggles to the lack of education about managing money. He admitted ignoring the signs and focusing more on enjoying fame and wealth, which ultimately led the group to their financial downfall.

That heartbreak album was amazing. Johnny Gills vocal and harmonies really gave that album the maturity NE needed to reach a more broad and mature audience. His voice alone, truly brought NE from boys to men.

Johnny Gill is a r&b legend not just in New Edition, but as a solo artist in music. I remembered 35 years ago when Heartbreak album came out in 1988 the one artist that Johnny was compared too was Teddy Pendergrass who is my favorite artist of all time. His voice was a little bit similar to Teddy's because he had a very soulful voice and the way he screamed on their songs, my favorite song My My My, and his other group LSG was unheard of at the time.🎤

For some reason people still think these artist, actors, etc, are just these rich well off people, no you have to continue to tour/work, the rest of your life to keep up with the lifestyle, not to much time to actually sit and enjoy it LIKE I KNOW THEY WANT TO ENJOY IT, and you will miss out on seeing your kids grow, they sell the dream so hard to the regular civilian but all along deep down inside they are all fighting depression, drugs, and suicide thoughts, because most of them cant go back to being regular, because they wouldn't be able to handle the backlash, so they sit there stuck in a system wanting out. AMERICAN DREAM does it sound familiar, WE ARE ALL FIGHTING TO SWITCH SIDES BUT IN REALITY ITS ALL THE SAME

@davruck1 they are not being robbed, everything you do as a artist comes out of your pocket, if you want your song to be number 1, you have to pay, you have to pay for videos to be shot, you have to pay for studio time, you pay to go on tour, hotels and everything else, nobody's robbing, nobody's educated on how much you really make, which in the end, every artist will work or tour until they are dead

the thing about VLAD is no matter how deep open and honest the star is about their challenges, VLAD finds a way to dig out more negativity. this show is good for learning about the ones being interviewed. It hurts that VLAD gets to benefit from it though.
