I hope that the moral culture within Jiu Jitsu gets even stronger and is not lost or replaced by a culture of violence as seen in MMA

Both are legends, but Rickson is unique, In The Netherlands I myself train bjj The Rickson Gracie style

Looks like judo to me along with newaza... At the end, I never thought I would hear a Gracie give credit to the Japanese for introducing them the gentle art.

Then honestly, you have not been listening. They have always said that they learned it from Maeda, who brought the jiu-jitsu he had learned in Japan from Kano.(who called it Kano Jiu-Jitsu before changing it to Judo) The Gracies have adapted the techniques and altered/refined them along the way, but so has any other martial art as it has evolved all throughout history and time. Jiu-Jitsu can be traced back at least 10,000 years to Egypt. And all of that can be traced back to the homosapiens that created the first stylized system of fighting.

GJJFan OK Gracie Fanboy. Gracies are showing the Japanese what they taught them a century ago... Yes, Gracies did refine Newaza for self-defense. I give them props for that. It's the lack of respect, arrogance, exaggerations, and lies that I don't like about some of them. Rickson is cool, but Royce, Royler, &, Rorion all come across what I stated above. They are very prideful and full of themselves. Rener only refers Maeda as a "Japanese man" who taught Carlos. Never once mentions Maeda's name.

Bjj is good for the advanced understanding of fighting on the ground where dynamic fluid movement is necessary to survive. With that being said everything else is out of their domain. The self defense they teach is with an over emphasis on the ground fight. This is a problem with mass attacks or weapon based environments. There is a reason why bjj is incomplete regarding takedowns like wrestling or judo moves etc. today any skill in that department is outsourced from actual training in wrestling or judo not bjj. Combatively bjj is simple and easier to learn which is good but also bad because we cannot over simplify modes of combat where certain arts specialize in. Judo katas - which are extensive provide more DEMONSTRATIONS for situations both unarmed and armed dating back before the entire gracie family was even born- some katas deriving from Samurai era Jujutsu

a lot of judo and aikido in there system.

its a system of jiujitsu where techniques where organised and adapted to suit the needs of the people doing it. A philosophy and mindset coupled with the techniques make the system what it is today. Nobody stole anything, it was taught to them and they built their version of jiujitsu. Not at any point do they say they invented jiujitsu. I ask all people who think like you to train with the original students of the graces when they moved to america. You'll discover what they did was incredible. Steve Maxwell is a standout to train with.
