Rickie Fowler's Greenside Chipping Techniques | TaylorMade Golf

Спорт

Team TaylorMade's Rickie Fowler is here to talk all things chipping. He's left himself some difficult shots over a bunker but thanks to his TaylorMade Golf TP5pix, he can work it however he needs to to get the ball close to the hole. He talks about using various different clubs around the green, his swing thoughts, how to get perfect contact and more. Sit back and relax and let Rickie Fowler put on a masterclass around the greens to help you get dialed and put the ball closer to the hole.

    These pro's play a simpler game than us amateurs who over complicated everything. Guess you could call it skill.

    You guys should include an amateur in the video as well to help show how this improvement can actually be attained by amateurs. I would be glad to be the first test subject!

    I would also put my hand up to be a part of this. Any tips from a pro in areas so crucial in scoring points would be a huge honour for one but be so beneficial to our game as amateurs.

    They will fake it by putting 1 handicapper chipping like dumb at first and clip it like a pro after pro tells him something.

    You show all the chips from behind the ball. It would be better to have a few facing Ricky so we can see his arm and hand positions. I am looking to see if he keeps his hands moving forward but could never see it in your video.

    What bounce is Rickie using on his wedges? Might have a role when chipping from those grainy/thight lies... He could also "skull" few shortsided chips with a 60 deg. and 12 bounce. Just saying..

    1:24 Notice how he span the club? Never seen something like that. Freeze frame it he didnt even spin it fully around, sort of first in one direction than back. Probably to get the feel or something.

    Not sure about golf, I could assume it’s similar, but maybe some sort of comfort tick or a feel thing. I do this with my pool cue on certain shots, where on my descent into address, I’ll roll or spin the cue with my grip hand. Don’t know why I started doing it 🤣

    After watching this one video , i know now i need the ball forward off of front foot. I have poor technique and think the ball should be off back foot and seem to miss-hit a lot of green side shots. 🤔

    Im thinning most of those over the green. The ability to hit the ball so cleanly at a pretty high speed must take years of touch practice.

  • @Scott-nj9gq

    @Scott-nj9gq

    For what it's worth; if you are thinning them, make sure your weight is forward and the ball isn't too far in front of your stance. Sounds like the leading edge of the club is bouncing in in the ball.

    It happens to me once in a while too, and I find it the most frustrating kind of bad shot in golf. 3 things that can help for this: 1. Be very committed to the shot and accelerate into the swing. 2. Keep your head down (but don't dig into the ground, otherwise you have the opposite of the thin shot: a fat shot that goes straight into the bunker). 3. Some would disagree here, but to me the last key point is to keep the wrist extremely loose and let the weight of the club do the work. Final point, not discussed here, which I find super important: the bounce of your wedge. If you face a hard, tight lie, you would as little bounce as possible (like 8 or 10). If your lie is soft (or if you are in the rough), take a club with high bounce (12 or ideally 14). To me, for this type of shots, bounce is more important than loft. Loft matters for fly + roll, but the key for good contact is bounce. And good contact is the most important. It doesn't take years of practice. In an hour, you can get there.

    Not the best video to learn from. Very little emphasis on setup. Very little on ball position and the basics of weight distribution all while being shot at an angle that is difficult to actually see the ball in relation to his body. Ricki must have done this early in the morning or just as he was leaving course.
