Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson's Wedge Clinic | TaylorMade Golf
Спорт
As some of the longest hitters in professional golf, Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson have plenty of opportunities to attack the flag and make birdies. When they're inside 100 yards, these two have to be sharp with their wedges, and they spend a huge amount of their practice time honing that skill to take advantage when they're in the Attack Zone.
Watch as Rory and DJ talk you through their mental approach and describe their feels and technique with the Milled Grind 3 Wedges and TP5x golf balls.

Watching wedge play like this is such a treat!
Watching Rory’s shots really shows how much a clean club-face will effect the distance and backspin. Before he wipes his club-face off were hitting the green and stopping right away. Once he cleaned them, they’d bounce and rip back. I could never achieve a backspin until I started cleaning my club-face consistently and making sure my practice balls were all clean/softer golf balls.. also all the same golf balls for consistency (got a few dozen Tour-Response balls that were used for super cheap) it’s a good feeling once you get one ripping back
these are the kind of sessions you need to do more of...chatting and learning what pros think with their gear and shots. a lot of the TM videos are too gimmicky.

I don't know when this video was actually shot but it's great to see these two TaylorMade team pros doing this clinic together. All the recent hype about the animosity between PGA and LIV tour pros seem to be non-existent and I certainly hope that's the case still. I like both of them and their shot making abilities and definitely hope more of these videos will be forthcoming in the future. I especially love hearing them say they change their wedges every couple of weeks to couple of months! I still use my wedges that I've had for over 10 years, lol.....maybe that's why I don't have to worry about excess spin!

Well, if it's after DJ was already on LIV, it's odd for 2 reasons. 1. Their contracts state when you do anything outside LIV, you have to wear their apparel. 2. He's got RBC on his sleeve and they dropped him almost immediately.

Fascinating insight into how pros approach approach play
I have a little trick I've done most of my life that my dad taught me with my wedges. Don't clean them after your shot! And the reason is if you have a shot, you need a little less spin. A wedge with a little dirt in the groves will do just that. Spin a little less. If you do need that wedge to spin, you can then clean it up before the shot. It's always done right by me.
Love these videos 🧨
impressive DJ manage to get those shots so stright. Crazy closed club at the top, so if he is not turning very fast, this is gonna be massive hooks
I for one actually enjoy the simplicity of this production. You don't need drone footage or tracers on every video

The mg3 instead of the stock pitching wedge is like a surgical instrument compared to a carpenters tools. I always go back to my 48, my pw is about 47 so it works good I just lose about a yard.
Trottie has the dream job, mixing with all the top TM pros
Nice to see the pros are human too. I too hit crazy good(for level I am at) at the practice session but its quite another thing to repeat that in play. I guarantee they dont hit that well in actual tournament otherwise we wouldnt see chip shots all the time. See there at the end yeah DJ was rushing but I would call it pressure.
Great content, but production value and camera angles don’t sufficiently support that content. #1: Need shot tracer on every shot so we can actual see flight & curve. #2: Need camera positioned at rear of green and high…either JIB or drone. Current camera angle gives no reference at to how close they are getting it to going in the hole. #3: Would be a great additional perk to have trackman numbers showing spin rate and launch angle of each shot (because that’s what you’re talking about). Need to up the production value to match the content!

I have been as low as a +2 handicap with swing speed at 120 mph. Never do the balls spin like this on the course in my area Seattle. So my point is, don't always think its you that can't spin it like this. It takes perfect conditions.

yeah i wouldnt expect a 100 yrd sw to spin that much unless its just the fact the are using expensive wedges and brand new balls. mines only stop unless there is a slope but i dont play new balls or wedges.
I know they play more golf than most people, but there is no way I am switching out a club a year because of the raw face being too worn lmao. That is too expensive for me. FYI the new hi-toe is great, I used one at the range the other day. The micro ribs were imparting some good control, and to be honest the face looks great too. I usually stay away from clubs with finishes, as it gets worn off after a couple rounds and looks terrible. I'd rather no finish with just the raw metal coloring.
Is it Rory’s birthday? This man’s got cake. 😳
How long ago was this recorded since DJ is with LIV?
I like Rory and DJ.
Wait who is the two guys on the left I know the guy on the right. The legend himself Chris Trottieeeeee
What was the high bounce? a 12 or higher?
Looks like dj has a bit of an open stance, makes sense for how much his is spinning compared to Rory's
I'm thinking about how happy the grounds crew is about having to fix up them fairways after this.
Didn’t think they were that close for the amount of balls they were hitting
If only I could hit off fairways like that
I change out my wedges roughly every 15 years.
Yeah I change my wedge 2 or 3 times a decade, usually when the grip is as slippery as a greased weasel or after I've helicoptered it into a lake!!! (not the weasel, no animal abuse here)
I would have dug a grave yard if I was hitting that many wedges. The one thing I liked hearing was never hit full wedge shots.
I bought a 54 degree milled grind last year could not hit a ball 75 yards, found out it was bent to a 56 degree so I had them bend it to a 52 degree to cover my gap between 100 to 120 yards , in the meantime I bought a top flight gamer 52degree wedge for 15 dollars just for the same reason, I hit that 115 yards, then when I got my TM wedge back I couldn't hit it past 91 yards, I tried everything ball back, ball forward everything I cannot hit that club, any suggestions? Maybe a defect?
