RIP to Richard Street who passed today. That's 2 former Temptations in 10 days.

Richard Street was with the Temptations from the very beginning. He was with the Distants before they became The Temptations, and then he was backup singer for Paul Williams when Paul was going through drinking binges and other issues. He would sometimes sing Paul's part from backstage while Paul would lip sync onstage. When Paul left in 1971, he became a permanent part of the group until 1993.

Richard Street has always been a wonderful performer and important source in r and b. His voice is definitely a vital part of the Temps.

RIP Richard. Gone but not forgotten.

Thank you for your positivity. You seem to be a true Temptation fan who honors every singer who was fortunate enough in their career to be in the Temps. All of them are special..if not, like was mentioned before, Otis would not have excepted them. We don't need bashing or haters saying negative opinions about anyone in this group..we all need to embrace each one for what it is and what they stood for in this business..which was to be apart of the history of the greatest 5 man group in our era.

Richard Street is a gifted, talented and versatile vocalist and it's good to hear that he's keeping the sound of the Temptations alive showcasing his era with the group, while paying tribute to the classic five. When we go to hear Richard Street and Voysez we expect that he would sing most of the leads. You are a good group. I've watched your videos "Ball of Confusion" among my favorites. Your showmanship is outstanding. Great job. A class act.

Richard's group is constantly praised for their energy, hamonies, blend and vocal balance.Many singers out there touring have gotten older and the "originals don't sound quite like the original".You should try to respect the fact that Richard being 65 years old, is still dancing and performing all over the world,as hard as he can every performance,trying to keep the well respected/popular Temptation's music alive, which he performed for 25 years. But again, I hear you, and respect your opinions.

I probably shouldn't respond to this question because Richard really doesn't talk about it. I think it was a personal issue that was happening and things were not working out between them. I do know that Richard was with the Temps for 26-27 years and he was responsible for many hits and harmony arrangements for the group. A very intricate part of the Temptations growth in the 70's, 80's and 90's.

Wow, Richard is singing great ! He now do things that he didn't did earlier.

Imagine the concert if there were Otis, Richard, Dennis, Tyson along with new bassist Joe Herndon, and Ollie Woodson

Greetings from Australia! I heard that Papa Was A Rolling Stone was the first Motown song to receive a Grammy - amazing given all the classics from the 60s - with Richard out front. And as you point out he goes way back - in an interview I heard he spoke of dating Diana Ross at school, being Quality Control officer at Motown, and babysitting Michael Jackson!!! In so many ways more than a Temptation. And a gentleman. If you're out there Richard, "Hi!" There's more on Richard at Wikipedia.

Birds At Daybreak Cloud Nine was the first Grammy received for Motown. "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" was the fourth Temptations song to reach number one on the charts.

Anyone who knows the Temptations music and history knows that Richard sang leads and adlibs on the original recording of "Papa"..so how can you get anymore original than that? The song will never sound exactly like the "original" unless you get the original five who recorded it together again..which is Dennis, Richard, Damon, Melvin and Otis.

All 3 Grammys were for Papa in 1972..Best R&B song, Best R&B Instrumental and Best R&B Performance by a group. They also won awards for the writers and producers of the song (R.I.P. Norman Whitfield) Papa was also inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 1999.. His American Music Awards were for Favorite R&B Group in 1974, and Favorite Album (A Song For You) in 1976, in which Richard sang the hit "Firefly", and many other leads throught the album.

Gosh, Richard is still doing it??? I had no idea. I have to admit, I always saw him as a Smokey "wannabe", but looking at these videos is making me see him in a better light.

We never do. Otis Williams is the only group that can use "The Temptations". We are always introduced as "3x Grammy Award Winner, 2x American Music Award Winner RICHARD STREET, Former Lead Singer of The Temptations" Enough said...

I don't think silkysmooth222 was referring to Richard being "an original Temp"...he was simply stating that as they all hung around each other, while growing up in Detroit, that Richard, Melvin, Pee Wee, Al and Otis were a group. A group called Otis Williams & The Distants. He never said Richard was an original Temp, because he wasn't. But he was "around" AND singing with Otis and his group before David, Eddie and Paul...

That surprises me that you say that, because in every CD, online bio and even in the box set, it says that Richard left The Temptations in 1993. There are pictures of the group from 1993 or 1994, showing Otis, Melvin, Ali,Ron and Theo Peoples, who replaced Richard. Melvin had to leave the road in 1994, and passed away in 1995. That said, I think Richard is a terrific singer and still sounds great! A true professional and I don't think he ever got the credit he deserved in The Tempts.

I consider Richard one of the greatest Temps and one of the originals because he was with Otis from the start. Would love to hear him do the tribute to my girl (stay) and tell him to let me try for the group, I'll be the first white Temp. I'll be better than Ruffin

Theo Peoples replaced Richard. Richard missed a performance in 92 after going into emergency surgery. Otis didn't get the memo and was pissed, and Richard found him unsympathetic and thought it was time to move on.

@silkysmooth222... "Richard was around before David, Eddie, and Paul"- when Otis and Richard were the DISTANTS. Paul and Eddie were the PRIMES. When the TEMPTATIONS were formed it was Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Al Bryant, Paul Williams Sr, and Eddie Kendricks----not Richard Street. Although the Temps all knew Richard, he was not an original member. Richard was good with the Temps, and for me, his best was "Firefly". Love that song. Love it .

Sorry larr1o, but you're wrong. Richard Street's last performance as a member of The Temptations was on December 31st, 1992. After that Theo Peoples replaced him.

this is a great performance, but i am partial to Paul, Melvin, Eddie, David, Otis, and Dennis, these are my TEMPS.
