Apparently, he's 5'7". Now that's not the Eiffel tower, but he's certainly not overly short. Both Clarkson and may are over 6' tall, Clarkson especially is a towering 6'5", which is near 2m, exaggerating the effect.

The average height of men in Iraq is 5ft5, the average height of mongolia is 5ft 6, in Indonesia its 5ft2, in Vietnam its 5ft4, in Egypt its 5ft7. Even the wealthiest middle eastern countries like Saudi Arabia have average male height of 5ft6.5, Bahrain is 5ft5, Qatar is 5ft7, UAE is 5ft8. In fact the countries you stated have higher average heights than most Asian countries, in China average male height is 5ft6.5, in Japan 5ft8, in South Korea 5ft9. Richard Hammond is 5ft 7, so he would not be short in Asian countries.

The Nigel Award water bottle one didn’t actually have to do with his height, I believe. He “won the award” because of lack of continuity in filming two clips (he literally swapped cars during a camera cut but acted like it was the same car he was reviewing), so I think the joke there was the bottle changed size too, when the camera angle changed.

My favourite was in Atacama desert when Jeremy called Richard Hammond the smallest living organism for miles.

I know I once saw Hammond at the Supermarket and had my hands tied. so I asked him could he get something off the middles shelf for me, he said it was to high up for him.

People in the past were shorter on average yes but you'd have to go back hundreds or thousands of years to actually see a difference. 100 years ago the average was not that much shorter than today
